In my previous comment I reported that using a jpg-image fixed the background image distortion. I have to take that back. I just witnessed similar corruption on Hardy. I was using an xpm image. The corruption occurs on a directory with as many files as will cause nautilus to display a scrollbar. When scrolling down, the area becoming visible has the corruption (side note: I have nautilus' content zoomed to 67%). Remedy: convert the image to jpg. Only thing is: I was surprised the image scrolls, along with the content; that is -- it's unlike a fixed background in your browser. I am still able to reproduce this bug in Intrepid with nautilus version 1:2.23.5.1-0ubuntu2. The steps to reproduce the bug that are listed in the bug description are still valid. I am running Intrepid Sebastien. I have been able to reproduce this bug with any 1024x768 image that I have tried. Have you tried maximizing nautilus while you were trying to reproduce the bug? Here is a 1024x768 image that I found on Google: http://jiiprahmail.googlepages.com/ubuntu_tribal_1024x768.jpg. (Soren Sandmann has been hacking on the background code specifically, see http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/eel/trunk/eel/eel-background.c?view=log ). I just tested this on Ubuntu Intrepid. I was able to reproduce the bug, but not to the same extent as Sayak. For me, I had a vertical stripe of the background become distorted on the far right side.
