As many of the images I have tried to use as wallpapers are personal images that I'd rather weren't published on the open Internet, I made this image in GIMP. The images I tried to add were JPEG format. No error message is given when the dialog closes, and I have 15GB of space in my home directory. Adding a PNG-format image as a wallpaper works, as I just discovered before posting this comment. Running the application from Terminal did not produce any output other than the window appearing. Attached is a screenshot of the window's Background tab.
