Re: [Bug 272281] Re: Pango-WARNING **: Error loading GPOS table

2008-10-14 Thread Bremm
2008/10/13 Mike Gratton [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

 After adding a debug print statement to Pango, it seems I get the
 warning when it loads FreeSans Medium. This is set as my Application
 font in gnome-appearences-properties, which I guess explains why I see
 the warning whenever I run a GTK app.

 Is anyone else seeing this using FreeSans Medium?

Confirmed. Changed main font to FreeSerif, opened terminal and ran
mousepad. No warnings. So, with terminal and mousepad running, changed
font back to FreeSans and error poped up again. :)

So you were right, this error is related to FreeSans font only (till
now).

Thanks for your useful diagnose, Gratton!

2008-10-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
 * What versions do you use exactly?

 This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

2008-10-13 Thread Bremm
2008/10/13 Sebastien Bacher [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

  * Is this reproducible?

Maybe.

  * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

Need install an old distro version as 6.06, for example, when Pango
used to complain about empty tables and then upgrade it to 8.10 (or
8.04).

  * What versions do you use exactly?

$ dpkg-query -W libpango1.0*
libpango1.0-0   1.22.0-0ubuntu1
libpango1.0-common  1.22.0-0ubuntu1

  This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Is there something that I could do here? `strace' dumps a lot of
information, it's almost impossible to trace using it.

I wouldn't till the other guy complain about the same problem. I'll
try to fix by myself and post the results here. If not, I'll open an
account on their bugzilla to ask about it. :)

Thanks.

[Bug 272281] Re: Pango-WARNING **: Error loading GPOS table

2008-10-13 Thread Mike Gratton
I'm using the same pango packages as Bremm.

warning when it loads FreeSans Medium. This is set as my Application
font in gnome-appearences-properties, which I guess explains why I see
the warning whenever I run a GTK app.

Is anyone else seeing this using FreeSans Medium?

Note that the GNOME bug (347073) fixed one warning, but the warning
being printed seems to be emitted from a different function (pango-ot-
info.c:pango_ot_info_get_gpos) , so it's not really a regression and
probably wants to be reported upstream.

That explains a lot. Probably nobody else is experiencing this because
they don't use FreeSans Medium. Wild guess: all FreeSans are affected
by same bug (in some places I use FreeSans Mono).

 Is anyone else seeing this using FreeSans Medium?

I am and I'll change the fonts to see what will happen.
