Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I see the same issue as bug #297633, which has been marked as invalid.
I upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 a while back, and since then I have
been unable to play music via rhythmbox. VLC, mplayer, xine, and command
line gstreamer (gst-launch playbin uri=file:///path/to/filename) all
work fine. As does sound from flash videos.

When I try to play media through rhythmbox, it just goes on to the next
song, which fails, and it continues in this fashion until I kill it.

Running with --debug, I see these errors for every track it attempts to
play:

(20:37:48) [0x876c408] [rb_shell_player_error] rb-shell-player.c:3421: playback
error while playing: Could not open audio device for playback.
(20:37:48) [0x876c408] [error_cb] rb-shell-player.c:3574: exiting error hander
(20:37:48) [0x876c408] [error_cb] rb-shell-player.c:3571: got error for
unexpected entry (nil) (expected 0x9174f18)
(20:37:48) [0x876c408] [rb_shell_player_sync_with_source]
rb-shell-player.c:2936: playing source: 0x89f7de0, active entry: 0x9174f18

Running gstreamer-properties, I saw the the default output was set to
some custom halsink command that I had not put there. None of the
settings make rhythmbox work. I now have it set to autodetect.

If you need any more information let me know.
