[Bug 35222] Inaccurate Copy Progress Dialog during file transfer to mass storage device

Comment:
AFAIK unmount doesn't have anything to do with this. I've tried to
reproduce it today and it still is a problem in dapper. I copied a 67MB
folder over to the device, the copy dialog showed up, moved the progress
bar awkwardly, fast, halt for a few seconds, then moved very fast and
the whole copy dialog disappeared announcing that copying is finished.
This took 20 seconds. The files actually were being copied for the next
two minutes or even longer. I have a screenshot, though I have no idea
how will this help.

Shot taken about 10 seconds after the copying started.

PS I've discovered that Print Screen button doesn't react. I have to go
to Applications - accessories - take screenshot. The button works in
Breezy (I have both installed). Is this intended?

[Bug 35222] Inaccurate Copy Progress Dialog during file transfer to mass storage device

2006-03-17 Thread Lakin Wecker
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35222

Comment:
From IRC: Tomasz is not unmounting the disks before pulling them out.
Of course, this is what causes the data loss.In my mind there are
two bugs here:

1) if someone pulls out a removable device without unmounting it, we
should show a warning dialog telling them that they risk data loss.

2) the dialog which is shown while ejecting the removable devices should
be present from the moment they start the copying until it is
finished... With an option to minimize the progress to a dialog.

Comment:
As discussed on IRC that's the way the async copy work. Would you
consider an informative dialog when unplugging the device to warn you to
use the eject action in case you didn't as a fix to that issue?

[Bug 35222] Inaccurate Copy Progress Dialog during file transfer to mass storage device

2006-03-16 Thread Tomasz Dominikowski
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35222

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I have a Full Speed (12mbit/s) USB 2.0 mass storage device (1GB capacity).
When I copy some files onto the device the progress dialog window appears for a
few seconds showing incredibly fast (and sometimes weird, progress bar stops
completely a few times, then moves blazingly fast) file transfer and
disappears. It's technically possible for such a fast file transfer. The
storage device still blinks that files are being copied and it does that for
quite a few *minutes* (full speed usb is considered slow when you copy
100-500mb over). This isn't an umount/mount issue. If I take the device out
during file transfer (indicated by the device, not gnome, gnome thinks file
transfer is long over) the obvious thing happens - the file being copied at the
moment of taking the device out will be broken. No further data loss occurs.

Hoary - copy dialog accurate
Breezy - broken
Dapper current (tested this yesterday evening) - broken.

Thanks for your bug. Is that the unmount or the copy dialog? Could you
make a screenshot of the dialog with dapper? dapper now should display a
dialog while the data are synced on the device when you unmount it
