[Bug 35287] ESD Playback Fails Silently on 1st login
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35287 Task: ubuntu alsa-driver Status: Needs Info = Rejected Comment: Thanks for checking again. Right, if a firefox plugin uses OSS (unfortunately many non-free ones do) then it blocks the whole sound card. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 35287] ESD Playback Fails Silently on 1st login
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35287 Comment: Ok. Some more investigation yields different results. It appears that firefox is blocking access to the sound device. If I quit firefox and start rhythmbox (or other gstreamer based apps) sound works fine. Also, if I start the sound apps before running firefox, I'm also fine. I'm going to try to find out if it's the gnu flash plugin or what in firefox that's blocking audio for other apps. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 35287] ESD Playback Fails Silently on 1st login
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35287 Affects: esound (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: Not sure if this is not a gstreamer bug but both Xmms and Rhythmbox appear to play songs but the clock runs at double speed and no audio comes out. If I log out of gnome and log back in, everything works fine. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35287 Comment: Which output plugin is XMMS using (check the audio plugin preferences)? If it's using ALSA or ESD, please switch it to OSS and confirm that the doubled-rate symptom does(not) still appear. Also, please attach the output from ``cat /proc/asound/cards''. Finally, please open Applications Accessories Terminal and confirm via the command line that the doubled-rate symptom does(not) appear with: ``aplay /usr/share/sounds/startup.wav''. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 35287] ESD Playback Fails Silently on 1st login
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35287 Comment: So ESD has been killed so I know it's not blocking access to the soundcard. Playing in Xmms using OSS or Alsa output produces the error Couldn't open audio. Something else is hogging the soundcard. Maybe some process in gnome is blocking access to the sound card? This would also cause problems with ESD right? How can I find out which process has locked the sound card 'lsof'? -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
