I have the same problem With Xubuntu 9.04 on IBM T41p 1. Inserting a DVD cause nicht die notwendigen Zugriffsrechte or do not have permision 2. TOTEM DVD:// cause the same problem Now the clue, after setting REGIONCODE: 3. I'm running Jaunty on a Dell 1501 Inspiron. Same deal. Most DVD's play fine. I use mplayer from terminal or Dragon Player. I ran into this issue while trying to play two DVD's from one particular store. About one time in ten Movie Player will play it. Thanks for getting back to me on this. This error is 100% reproduceable on my machine. I can not play a DVD on it. The DVD drive plays audio cds and reads data cds fine (xubuntu was installed off it) The first time I tried a video DVD it searched for and installed the codecs with no apparent issues. It reported a successful codec install, but when I tried to play the dvd it failed with the reported error.
