Hi Janis, thanks for the report. I examined your ACPI dump and unfortunately your BIOS contains no methods for modifying brightness at all. :( Your only hope would be requesting a linux driver from the manufacturer. Requesting Won't Fix status for this bug. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 363326] Re: Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520
Thanks, Janis. The issue here is either that the laptop has a proprietary backlight control or the BIOS is slightly broken. Just in case, can you try running the current mainline kernel from the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/MainlineBuilds? This is just to ensure the problem's not specific to Ubuntu and not fixed already in the next release of the kernel. The keys may still not work, check /sys/class/backlight/ just to see if the kernel found anything. If the mainline kernel doesn't work, then our best hope is to get upstream linux to work around a bug in the BIOS. If this is the case, please install acpidump and attach a dump here with the following commands: sudo apt-get install acpidump sudo acpidump -o acpidump.txt I'll then try to take a look at the dump and determine if it's possible to workaround it. I know all this is pretty involved, but at this point it's let's fix a problem instead of let's find the bug, so you might help add a feature to linux if we're lucky. :) -- Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 363326] Re: Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520
Hello again, Doing some research [1, 2], I found that Amilo laptops do not actually pass events through X and ACPI. Unfortunately, upstream has already determined that this won't be fixed. I'm linking the upstream bug in case something else comes up again. Thank you for the report and please report any additional bugs your find. [Bug 363326] Re: Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520
Thanks for very fast reply. Sorry, but this is my first bug,so i can't add this for all of this things. So thanks too for housecleaning. When I run xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode *\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\), .*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p',and press Fn+F8 and Fn+F9,nothing is new in terminal. -- Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 363326] Re: Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520
Thanks for the update. For troubleshooting hotkeys, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting As a first step, do the following steps: 1) From a terminal, enter: xev | sed -n 's/^.*state \([0-9].*\), keycode *\([0-9]\+\) *\(.*\), .*$/keycode \2 = \3, state = \1/p' 2) press the brightness control key combination 3) post the output here (see if there is a keypress event) I'm doing some housecleaning and assigning to: gnome-power-manager xserver-xorg-input-evdev and removing Ubuntu Also, I think the convention on launchpad is to subscribe teams when escalation is required and to assign to: individuals when they are working on the fix. Since escalation isn't required yet and no one is working on a fix, I'm removing Ubuntu Laptop Team. ** Package changed: ubuntu = gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Assignee: Ubuntu Laptop Team (ubuntu-laptop) = (unassigned) ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
