because it's a rewrital of a good part of the code probably, a new feature without any testing yet ... ie: not something you want to push to a stable distribution -- include senmail as dependency for bug-buddy https://launchpad.net/bugs/36780 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 36780] Re: include senmail as dependency for bug-buddy
bug-buddy 2.15.0 uses xml-rpc to talk directly to bugzilla so no MTA is required with it, it'll be fixed to edgy ** Changed in: bug-buddy (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed -- include senmail as dependency for bug-buddy https://launchpad.net/bugs/36780 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 36780] Re: include senmail as dependency for bug-buddy
Well over two months later and still no fix on this. Bug Buddy asks Please check the path to sendmail But sendmail is not on the default system. (Dapper) So the user clicks submit report manually. But there is no information on where to submit the report. Bug Buddy is unusable. Can the severity be raised to urgent? -- include senmail as dependency for bug-buddy https://launchpad.net/bugs/36780 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 36780] Re: include senmail as dependency for bug-buddy
Exim works as well (even provides a sendmail symlink), and it's in main, whereas Sendmail is in universe. I think I would prefer bug-buddy to require one of the exim4-daemon-* packages. I also agree that this is significantly more severe than the current Wishlist status implies and think that the severity should be raised to Normal or even Major. -- include senmail as dependency for bug-buddy https://launchpad.net/bugs/36780 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 36780] Re: include senmail as dependency for bug-buddy
In response to Sebastien Bacher's suggestion of using a Suggests instead of Depends: I think the best solution would be to put a Recommends on bug-buddy (an MTA is not necessary, but it seems pointless to use it without one) and an Enhances on exim4-whatever. Also, I think an MTA really should be installed by default so that if somebody wants to report a bug with Bug Buddy, they can use the e-mail feature instead of having to submit it manually. -- include senmail as dependency for bug-buddy https://launchpad.net/bugs/36780 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thanks for your bug.
