[Bug 370519] Re: Connect to Server... FTP Paste command work-around available even when should not.

2009-11-12 Thread Brian Curtis
Since there has been no response in over 4 months I am going to close this bug
as invalid. If you can still reproduce this bug and are using a newer ubuntu
version please use ubuntu-bug nautilus. That will report a new bug and provide
necessary information from your computer.
Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Status in “nautilus” source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
I recently tried to connect to a remote FTP server. Once the connection was
established, I tried browsing the folders and wanted to put some of the
files on my local harddrive to the FTP server. I tried to Copy the folders
[right click and copy] and paste them in the target folder on the FTP
server. But, the 'Paste' command was disabled. But astonishingly, when I
dragged and dropped the folders onto the FTP server window, they were all
 transferred.

2009-05-01 Thread Michael Rooney
Thanks for your report. It sounds like you are talking about using
nautilus, the default file manager? If so, this is a bug in nautilus and
I will assign the package.

For future reference, nautilus (and many other applications) has a
Report a problem entry right in the Help menu which will take care of
part of bug reporting for you including all the useful information.

Let me know if nautilus is the right application, thanks!

you are right. Nautilus is the application that has this problem. And thanks
for the additional information too. Also, I am very eager to fix that bug on
my own. What resources[well defined] do I have as a C[C++} programmer to do
that? And what stuff do I have to learn? Any pointers will be greatly
appreciated too.

Thanks a lot!

http://live.gnome.org/Nautilus/Development is a good resource, and the
mailing list (http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/nautilus-list) is
also another good resource if you run into questions, want to submit a
patch, et cetera. Good luck!
