Benoît Dejean, a developer at GNOME states: "That's a bug in your network driver, i've already seen this. It fails to update its statistics (how many bytes in and out) every second: so if you set the graph to refresh every second, you get 0 and then the double. My only advice is too to double your refresh rate."
