I think that most appropriate application is Firefox. SWF is an application which executes in virtual machine, but not a video stream. It can embed video and audio. But, for example, Java can embed it too, let's open it in Totem! I confirm this bug on 8.04, Hardy Heron. There is, however, a possible workaround seen on this thread of the Ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-170418.html They mention switching to KDE's version, Kaffeine, but I believe that if you read between the lines, a solution can be found for Totem.
