In that sense, this enhancement would be a workaround for bugs in other software. My usability concern about this is that users might hide files and directories and then forget where they are located, or might not realise how to make them visible. Rereading the bug report, I don't think scripts facilities is the correct component. For example, if you install an application like Google Earth a new folder is created at /home and you never use it. I don't like to see that folder every time I open my Home Directory. Before I learned there where some files and directories hidden, and before I learned how to hide something, I couldn't hide that folder. For new people to Linux, like I was, I think it would be great to be able to hide something like this Google Earth folder with one or two clicks.
