[Bug 45951] Re: gnome-session failed

2006-06-30 Thread Spliffster
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 48876 ***

if your login shell is bash, check if you have a .bashrc file (just in
case you are new to gnome, nautilus hides files starting with a dot, use
CTRL+H to sho them).

altough i haven't checked, the same alias command in a .bashrc file
would most probably cause the sameproblem, i guess the gnome-session
command (or any associated script) is using ls instead of /bin/ls which
causes this to happen.

also, if you are using another shell than bash/sh, you might want to
look into the man page to see what startup files you shell uses (most
probably not .profile).

Cheers,
-S

As suggested in https://launchpad.net/bugs/48876, commenting out:

alias ls=ls --color

in ~/.profile fixed this for me.

gnome-session fails when alias ls='ls --color' in .profile

[Bug 45951] Re: gnome-session failed

2006-06-05 Thread 조광일
I'm running into the same problem here after a fresh Dapper install.
From .xsession-errors:

/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/bin/sessreg -a -w /var/log/wtmp -u
/var/run/utmp -x /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers -h -l :0 zerokarmaleft
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Executing default failed, will try to run x-terminal-emulator

Failsafe GNOME seems to be the only way to login to GNOME via GDM.
Stopping GDM and starting X from the console also works without
incident.

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Do you use GDM?
What session did you pick? If you don't use GDM how do you start your
session?
