That's funny, because one bug report upstream is classified " not confirmed" and the other is "new". In reply to your post, many things have been done over time, Compiz, new themes, new versions of gnome/gtk, but just the same, this particular interface element has not changed at all since the very beginning. The beginning, for me , being warty.
