Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please answer these questions:

2009-12-01 Thread Dale Crampton
1. On every start up from dual boot in XP SPk3 after problem started was
a repeat.
This may not be repeatable on another machine, one of the power
pull shut down may have resulted in a corrupted file or failed closure.
I did not find any disk maintenance programs to be able to verify
these thoughts..
2. History
Installed 9.10 from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-wubi
OpenOffice and Firefox were my choice for XP. Spent week attempting
to learning Applications and System -- lots of help pages.
Everything seamed to be working correctly to me. Unix is new to
me. My 25 years at the key board include 4040/8080 machine,
various
basics, cpm, fortran, Dos, MSdos, Windows 3 to XP.
Update Manager updated Firefox
Then when Firefox was started a few minutes latter the Mouse keys
would lock out, pointer OK.
Firefox need the flashplayer plugin. Downloaded from Adobe.com
deb. for ubuntu 8.04+
Installer failed on writing page @ 2%
Start ups would give message Nautilus had to shut down.
Web help gave instructions for useing terminal.
Terminal would open with "d...@ubuntu:~$"
Trying to use would generate "There was an error creating the child
process for this terminal"
AT the same time all keys would lock out- mouse, keyboard and
power/reset on CPU
Pull Power Plug to shut down. After a few of these in interest of
saving hard drive boot into XP and uninstalled 9.10

Download and made live disk and reinstalled ubuntu version 9.04
with windows installer.
Been 3 weeks now with no problems, even using Shiretoko for
browser, once burned---

There was to much wrong with ubuntu 9.10
These were the problems it produced.
1.Installation of 9.10 from ubintu wiki in windows declaired missing
files but OS worked.
2.Firefox 3.5 download adobe-flashplugin then got message "The
package adobe-flasplugin need to be reinstalled, but I can't find an
archive for it."
3.Redownloaded install-flash-player-10-linux.deb from adobe. the
installer called from down load came up with the same message.
4.GDebi Package Installer also failed the install at 3% "appling
changes"
5.Your web solutions required Terminal
6.System would lock up all inputs from keyboard and mouse and POWER
BUTTON on HP Pavillion a335w with windows xp home with updates.
   alt+sysreq+"REISUB" also locked out.
7.Used windows and uninstalled 9.10
8.Downloaded 9.04, made install disk and loaded in window for dual
boot. Windows file from hp named kbd.exe lost in the install.
9. ubuntu 9.04 with Firefox 3.0 with all you update install working
good. Not taking a chance on 9.10 declaired available on update page.
