Yeah, that was a little hard to find, but that's actually bug 490093,
which was spotted recently. The problem is that we're starting another
tool (about-me) to change the password, and that when you have changed
it, you get back to the user settings window: if you click on Validate
at this point, is it seems logical, you overwrite the new password with
it's old value. Hitting Cancel instead is a good workaround for now.

Additional Note:
Same thing happened twice.  However the third time I clicked the "Click to make 
changes" button.
If you click "Click to make changes" first it seems to work fine.

This is still a bug though. You should not be allowed to "pretend" to
make a change if you are not currently in "change mode".  Also, it
affected the keyring authentication without actually changing your
password!
