I am pretty certain this is due to interaction with keyring in my case.
I cd'ed into .gnome and rm -rf keyrings and restart the machine, re-
enters the password, workgroup, it works again on 10.04.

[Bug 544847] Re: cant browse/mount windows shares in nautilus 10.04

2010-09-29 Thread Arthur Wiebe
I checked my samba server and it already had that workgroup setting
defined and set correctly. There must be something more to it than that.

Most of the users work fine but it seems randomly some users just act
up. This is all on an LTSP server with the samba server virtualized on
the same hardware so it's not like network latency is an issue.

For one user I always without fail get that error message when going to the
Bookmarks where I've bookmarked a samba share, and clicking on that bookmark.
The 1st time I always get that error, every time after that it works fine.
Removing the keyring resolves the issue but prompts for login each time.
Browsing to it in nautilus or using the bookmark, both have the same result.
First time it fails with the DBus error, every time after that it works fine
until you logout and log back in.

2010-09-28 Thread greg potter
The following change to samba config file (etc/samba/smb.conf) fixed this
problem for me mounting windows shares.
Change workgroup to your domain.

#=== Global Settings ===

[global]

## Browsing/Identification ###

# Change this to the workgroup/NT-domain name your Samba server will part of
   workgroup = WORKGROUP

I can also confirm that this bug only seems to happen when there is a
keyring saved. I have an unencrypted keyring for these users so they
don't have to enter the password each time, if I delete the keyring I
don't see this bug.

Why oh why does Ubuntu have to have some many stupid quirks!!

[Bug 544847] Re: cant browse/mount windows shares in nautilus 10.04

2010-07-04 Thread Donald Canard
I did a clean installation of Lucid 10.04 a month or more ago. This
installation had and has no problems connecting to Windows shares. I
have not updated it.

I did another installation yesterday and patched it with all available
updates. This installation cannot connect to Windows shares. The
symptoms are identical those described above.

It seems some updates have broken interoperability with Windows.

A fix would be nice.

Thanks.

2010-06-09 Thread Christopher Nighswonger
I can confirm this on version 2.30.1 Ubuntu 10.04 upgraded from 9.x

A clean reinstall is an unacceptable solution in a large corporate
environment. Breaking both the upgrade path and the ability to interact
freely with Windows clients on a network is a sure and quick way to be
shown the door. I hope that the priority on this bug will be upped OR it
will be passed over to those responsible for handling Ubuntu upgrades.

This is not how to win friends and influence people, folks.

I can Plus One to the clean install fixing the problem, its an inconvenience
i know but it makes the problem go away..

Hope you have some success soon..

 zxMarce,

sorry to hear it didn't work for you.

From what I see, the difference is that you upgraded. I did a clean
install. As you can see from other posts, those who made a clean
install got rid of the problem.

In 9.04 and 9.10 the problem I had was with password protected shares
only, and adding those 2 lines to smb.conf fixed it. Now in 10.04 I
could not mount any share until I added the 2 lines. I have 3 computers
now with 10.04 and all of them are doing fine with the samba shares (one
 laptop and 2 desktops).

 Good luck!

[Bug 544847] Re: cant browse/mount windows shares in nautilus 10.04

2010-05-20 Thread Gonzalo Palarea
I have been having issues with windows shares since 9.04 (and now in
10.04 also), and every time it has been resolved with this:

Try adding the following lines to /etc/samba/smb.conf, after the line
server string = %h server (Samba, Ubuntu):

   client lanman auth=yes
   client ntlmv2 auth=no

It has worked for me. It is not my solution, I found it in some forum
quite a while ago, I don't remember where...

Good Luck!

[Bug 544847] Re: cant browse/mount windows shares in nautilus 10.04

2010-05-08 Thread Tony Aude
How can this be low priority

This is a show stopper as it prevents integrating Ubuntu into Windows
networks. Windows has no trouble seeing and actioning the Ubuntu shares
but to actually login to the Windows Shares is impossible. I've been
trying for days to acheive this and followed much advice in various
forums all to no avail.

This should work 'out of the box' and will surely prevent a lot of
people using what is otherwise an excellent product. It makes the
product NON recommendable.

[Bug 544847] Re: cant browse/mount windows shares in nautilus 10.04

2010-04-12 Thread MacRules
I also have this problem on 10.04 beta in Nautilus 2.30.
I read somewhere it might have something to do with a gnome keyring.

I get this error:
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply
(timeout by message bus)

That seems to be right, because if I mount a share and choose to forget
password, it simply works.
So something goes wrong with saving the password, or retrieving it, it seems.

Hope this helps anyone and hope it will be fixed!
