The same here on HP dv6-2180ey. The last kernel version card reader worked
normal was 2.6.33.7-maverick x86_64
The thing is, that on debian or fedora it does not work even on older kernels.

[Bug 649912] Re: SD Card Reader shows Incomplete / Corrupt Files

2010-10-19 Thread LUCAS MORESCHI
Hi,

The same happens to me when i use kernel 2.6.35-22-generic, but all work
fine with kernel 2.6.32-25-generic.

When i insert the SD Card the system launches the automount, then when i
enter to the mounted device i view the files JPEG as jpeg files but
nautilus can't open them, the preview thumbs are not showed and when i
click an image the viewer says Error Interpreting JPEG image file

I conserve my old Kernel 2.6.32-25-generic, and when i run with this
kernel version all work OK! The CardReader device works perfect.

My System:
Notebook - HP Pavilion dv6700 Series (dv6705el)
i'm using Ubuntu 10.10 - 32bits - kernel 2.6.35-22-generic.

thanks a lot.

[Bug 649912] Re: SD Card Reader shows Incomplete / Corrupt Files

2010-10-19 Thread martin
Frustrated with 10.10!

Yeah, seems to be affecting HP Pavilion dv6XXX Laptops, with 4 reports
now. Yes, the old kernel / 10.04 works fine with the SD Card Reader.

I now have quite a few issues with 10.10, and some ongoing unresolved
ones that were also present in previous releases.

650998 Battery Status Applet not working properly
656192 Clock / Calendar - Calendar displayed in wrong place when you
click on Clock..
650973 Tabs in Firefox close when selected..
656210 HP Laptop Remote Control does not Shutdown / Turn OFF
computer..
656214 GShutdown doesn't execute Shutdown, Restart or End Session..
649912 SD Card Reader shows Incomplete / Corrupt Files

Not sure if these are still relevant:
456623 Network Manager does not automatically connect Mobile Broadband
462223 NM shows incorrect information for Mobile Broadband Connection

And a touchpad problem described in Answers:
129287 Which package controls the touchpad / text input?

I'm going to revert to 10.04 because there doesn't seem to be anything
happening with these bugs. 10.04 does the same job for me but without a
lot of the problems!

Pretty much the same happens on my HP pavilion dv6 1280-us with Ubuntu 10.10.
However, nautilus or anything else doesn't crash, the pictures on the card are

[Bug 649912] Re: SD Card Reader shows Incomplete / Corrupt Files

2010-10-11 Thread martin
Hey, does anyone have any ideas about this?

The problem can't be too complicated as the SD card reader worked
perfectly in 10.04, 9.10 and 9.04, and I think even as far back as 8.10
as I've been running a stable system since then.

Is there anymore information I can provide about my system/hardware to
help.

This is a major problem losing this important feature. The good news is
one can back install 10.04 and it goes away.

Ok, started the crash report with Apport but the bug was something
like 'nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV..' which already had many entries
from other people so I didn't log it.

How do I report the crash with apport?

Also, Nautilus auto opens when the SD card is inserted and immediately
closes. You then have to restart it, before looking at the file
structure and going into the problems I described in the bug report.

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: nautilus

 10.10 Beta
 Nautilus 2.32.0
HP 6700 Series Laptop with built-in SD (and multi-) card reader.

SD card reader displays incomplete or corrupted files. Eg, jpgs shown as
random coloured thumbnail or random characters. Some files are not displayed
at all. Some files are correctly displayed.

Opening an affected file (if you can see it) does not work. Different error
messages occur - 'could not open file' or 'type not supported' 'could not
display' etc. Some correctly displayed files also yield these messages.

Ejecting the card usually results in Nautilus closing/crashing. In some
cases browsing the file structure or attempting to open some files also
crashes Nautilus. When it closes there is no prompt for bug report.

The card reader was a problem a couple of years ago (8? Series of Ubuntu) on
my HP Laptop - simply didn't work at all but since Karmic/Lucid it's worked
 flawlessly.

[Bug 649912] Re: SD Card Reader shows Incomplete / Corrupt Files

2010-09-29 Thread martin
An additional problem has emerged: Opening some files on the SD card
causes total system crash. In one instance the laptop was left hanging
with the purple Ubuntu screen (with 5 orange dots) and a 5 second
repeating loop of part of the currently played song (Whitney Huston's I
will always love you, which was rather scary). Switching OFF did not
work and I had to unplug and remove the battery to kill the computer.
