[Bug 664016] Re: no such file or directory when compressing zip, rar, 7z

2010-12-18 Thread Noel Arzola
It's automounted. I found that it was all of my backups made by
backintime that would not copy. They are simply backups of the home
folder so I'm not sure what could be happening there or what to look
for. I ended up having to move them to a separate location and archiving
the rest of the drive, which worked. I still would like to add them to
the archive.

Mount outputs this

:~$ mount
/dev/sda2 on / type ext4 (rw,errors=remount-ro,commit=0)
proc on /proc type proc (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev)
none on /sys type sysfs (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev)
fusectl on /sys/fs/fuse/connections type fusectl (rw)
none on /sys/kernel/debug type debugfs (rw)
none on /sys/kernel/security type securityfs (rw)
none on /dev type devtmpfs (rw,mode=0755)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=0620)
none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw,nosuid, nodev)
none on /var/run type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,mode=0755)
none on /var/lock type tmpfs (rw,noexec, nosuid, nodev)
/dev/sda3 on /home type ext4 (rw,commit=0)
binfmt_misc on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc
(rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev)
gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/ubuntu/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon
(rw,nosuid,nodev,user=ubuntu)
/dev/sdb1 on /media/disk type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,blksize=4096)

[Bug 664016] Re: no such file or directory when compressing zip, rar, 7z

2010-12-14 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Sorry for taking so long to respond... I guess you are still having this issue?
I did not have any particular special characters in mind, but various
non-latin scripts like CJK languages or Cyrillic have been problematic in the
past.
I think that the issue is related to NTFS: How do you mount the drive (i.e. do
you just connect it to your computer and it gets mounted automatically or did
you have an entry in /etc/fstab or similar)? What's the output for this drive
if you enter mount in a terminal?

What special characters are problematic?

[Bug 664016] Re: no such file or directory when compressing zip, rar, 7z

2010-10-21 Thread f00fyf00fer
1. Is this reproducible?
--Yes
2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as
detailed as possible.
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.
--Right clicked the folderHit compresschose zippermission deniedexited ran
gksu file-rollertried same folder again with the same options An error
occurred while adding files to the archive. No such file or directory.

It occurs with any file type, and with encryption. I ran into this
problem trying to create a password protected/encrypted archive

Two specific things:

* Do the folder or the files in the folder have something unusual in their file
name (special characters, etc.)?
--I was browsing through, I did not see any. This is a large amount of data,
however. I went through about 95% of it, it's mostly media and docs separated
in a bunch of folders

* Is the folder you are trying to compress on a normal hard disk or on a
network share or similar?
--This is on an external hard drive, NTFS, 1TB

The permissions denied issue was also weird, because I'm the owner of
all the files. To be sure I navigated to the drive and ran sudo chown -R
ubuntu Work/ however I still get An error occurred while adding files
to the archive. Permission denied.

2010-10-21 Thread f00fyf00fer
There are some backups of my home folder on there created with
backintime, none were created as root, and it is strictly the home
folder in the backups (with hidden files incl).
