@David I am too having the same problem. Neither on my Google Apps Account chat settings page nor in Empathy Google account setup window, I can locate Use old SSL setting. I was able to fix this issue for myself by checking Use old SSL and specifying talk.google.com in the server field for my google talk business account. Is the checkbox Use Old SSL in the advanced settings checked? thanks for the bug report.
