to apply proper patches and compile gnome-panel and gnome-desktop for
recent applications functionality: 602053

[Bug 72172] Re: wishlist: support for recently used applications

2007-09-05 Thread Philipp Kern
The list of recently-used applications is properly written (although I
had a single entry which was not prefixed with `file://', the
application browser launched by main-menu; other applications launched
through it are saved correctly). I also confirmed this with a test
program using GtkRecentManager and retrieving the items. But somehow
they get lost between slab and main-menu and debugging of applets is not
that easy IMHO.

[Bug 72172] Re: wishlist: support for recently used applications

2007-09-04 Thread Philipp Kern
Those patches probably aren't enough. I suspect a bug in main-menu or
slab, which prevents the list to be read correctly (i.e. the xbel looks
fine to me, but the recent applications are not showing up in the menu
as the list is empty from main-menu's point of view).

[Bug 72172] Re: wishlist: support for recently used applications

2007-09-02 Thread Philipp Kern
Upstream wants to deprecate gnome-desktop in the near future. The patch
for it looks pretty straightforward. The worst case, if this is
included, would probably be that if Gnome takes another approach in a
future release and that then the old recent application list might not
be read anymore after an upgrade. (Which is not really a problem IMHO.)
In the mean time this could work for Gutsy users with gnome-main-menu
installed.

I did not yet review the gnome-panel patch, though and I will test both
patches in the course of next week. Maybe it could be included then, if
the patch to gnome-panel also boils down to be quite minimal and
straightforward. But IANAUD.

working on this feature.

Hi

feisty is out. Is the spec about getting the slab menu in main still
planned? If so, this would be a must have feature.

The patch are non trivial and Vincent has a point about it on the
upstream bug, we will probably wait next cycle to get those used, slab
will not be the default menu anyway, just an option

[Bug 72172] Re: wishlist: support for recently used applications

2007-01-22 Thread kmon
Hi

It seems gnome 2.18 won't include this patches.

According to this spec:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SlabMenuForDesktop ubuntu is considering including this
menu applet on main so people can install it at their own choice. I think it's
a great idea, but without this patches one of the best things the menu provides
is missing, so I would say to apply them if it's going to be included.

thanks
