This bug also affects Xfce's Find Applications program. This is a me too. It is very easy to reproduce this issue. I did it in a virtual machine. After installing ubuntu-11.04-desktop-i386.iso and adding xfce4 via apt- get, no ~/.config/menus exists for an xfce user. After starting alacarte and quitting it immediately by hitting ESC, the directory ~/.config/menus is created with two files: settings.menu and xfce-applications.menu. Immediately the xfce applications menu is no longer available exactly as Andreas described. I think I found one workaround: After having started alacarte once, I did: cp -p /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu ~/.config/menus For the time being every thing seems to work. I really hope that someone cares about the bug. Gerd P.S.: This does not happen in Xubuntu 11.04. I tried to modify the Mergefile entry as follows: MergeFile type=parent/etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/menus/xfce- applications.menu/MergeFile Which is the correct path, and it still only shows the entries in the local file: ~/.config/menus/xfce-applications.menu so, I wonder if it's a problem with the Merge.
