Hi Robert, Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It looks like your version of Ubuntu (8.10) reached End of Life on April, 2010, and additionally, it would appear you are using a non- Ubuntu package as indicated in your bug report. Because of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug. However, I can suggest something for you to try to solve the problem you're seeing. I managed to obtain the same error mesage you're getting, what I think may have happened is that you have an entry on your /etc/apt/sources.list file that looks like this: deb 'http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy main restricted' notice the single-quotes. You have to remove the quotes from any entries that look like that, so that they all have this form: deb http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy main restricted Please verify your sources.list configuration and retry what you were doing.
