This issue seems to be resolved for me, I haven't seen it in a while whereas it was previously very intrusive. I'm running Unity 2D and previously experienced it under that environment. I haven't changed anything specific to this issue besides accepting regularly scheduled updates. I had continued to experience this in December. I can confirm that this issue seems to be resolved for me as well. Sometime between my last point 1/17 and David's post an update fixed my MacBook. I see I've installed updated lots of packages including X, xserver, and the kernel, so not sure exactly what update fixed this bug, but WFM. Can others on this notification list please re-test (to confirm the problem) and then apt-get update/upgrade to see if the problem goes away? Thanks Walter, I removed gnome-screensaver and installed xscreensaver and the screen still dims w/o being able to wake it up. In particular, I tested by: 1. apt-get update/upgrade, replacing gnone-screensave w/ xscreensaver 2. Logout (to LDM) 3. Wait some amount of time 4. Screen dims 5. No keys (including brightness keys) will wake up the display 6. Blindly type in my password 7. Yes, thanks. The issue may be with gnome-screensaver, and not with gnome-power-manager.
