Happening for me as well. Its not happening all the time, but when happens, I am unable to start conversation. I have to quit empathy and open it again to work normally. Yes, it is reproducible, but I don't know exactly what circumstances trigger it I'm afraid. Today I managed to reproduce it immediately after Empathy started. A video demonstrating the problem is attached. I'm not sure how useful it is. Basically I just double click on one of my contacts and nothing happens.
