There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. Oh I see. Yes they work just fine. I just installed Banshee and it is okay to control from the notification bar. But can you tell me if Banshee cannot be controlled from the menu ? Yes I can confirm that Rhythmbox is the only player that I am using.
