[Bug 45018] Unlock screen is invisible with Nvidia twinview

2006-05-16 Thread John Beisley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

This bug may equally be an issue with the Nvidia GLX drivers or Xorg.

When my laptop is configured with the following excerpt from xorg.conf,
the gnome-screensaver unlock dialog does not appear. I haven't tested if
the dialog box appears if a second monitor/projector is connected.

Further symptoms include two screensavers seeming to run at the same
time, sometimes one screensaver briefly appears over the top of the
other.

# Begin xorg.conf

Section "Device"
Identifier "NVIDIA Corporation NVIDIA Default Card"
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "RenderAccel" "true"
Option "Coolbits" "1"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP,CRT"
Option "TwinView" "1"
Option  "Metamodes" "1280x800,1280x800; 800x600,800x600;
1280x800,NULL"
Option "UseEdidFreqs" "true"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-96"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "50-160"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone"
EndSection

# End xorg.conf

I have disabled the ConnectedMonitor Option and all below it as a
workaround while I do not have a second monitor connected.

[Bug 44550] Re: xfce icons in tango-icon-theme-common

2006-05-16 Thread Michael Monreal
Nice icons, but I would

a) call xfce4-splash.png only splash.png and then link splash.png ->
xfce4-splash.png
Dunno if this is needed by some non-xfce software, but let's make the name more
generic.

b) call xfce4-taskbar.png only taskbar.png and then link taskbar.png ->
xfce4-taskbar.png and taskbar.png -> panel-window-list.png, as we need
that for gnome, anyway.

c) remove xfce4-workspaces.png and link workspace-switcher.png ->
xfce4-workspaces.png, we don't want two icons for the same thing I guess

[Bug 45020] tooltips appear instantly

2006-05-16 Thread Owen Williams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

summary:
In breezy, Tooltips used to appear after a short delay of a few hundred
milliseconds. Now they seem to pop up instantly, which is really annoying.

steps to reproduce:
1. mouse over something, like the workspace switcher applet.
2. scrub back and forth a bit.
3. let the mouse rest.

expected results:
The tooltip shouldn't appear until after the mouse comes to a stop for 300
milliseconds (at least).

actual results:
boom, instant tooltips covering up onscreen information.

further information:
I can't find a global gconf key for this setting anywhere, so I suspect it's
hard-coded. Furthermore since many apps don't respect the global tooltip
setting, there's not much I can do about it. This doesn't seem to happen with
all applets, but launchers, the menu widget, the workspace switcher, and the
clock all do this.

[Bug 45024] Evolution throws connection errors even though it is set to offline mode

2006-05-16 Thread Kuropka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

On my Ubuntu Dapper system I can observe following behaviour of
Evolution:

1. I put Evolution in the "offline" mode.

2. I remove the connection

3. After a few minutes Evolution shows the following error popup:
"Fehler bei Ping zu IMAP-Server xxx wird ermittelt.
Sie müssen online arbeiten, um diesen Vorgang abzuschließen"

In English this means something like: "Error on ping to the IMAP-Server
xxx. You have to work online to end this procedure."

[Bug 45101] The "?" symbol has poor resolution

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-artwork

The "?" symbol (the rounded symbol with white foreground and blue
background that you can see, for example, in System->Help->System

I think it must be redone in order to get a new icon with better

[Bug 45112] Icon Preferences Dialogue Closes Too Much

2006-05-16 Thread Lukas Sabota
Public bug reported:

I'm running the latest Dapper x86.

To reproduce:
Right click on a panel launcher.
Press properties.
Click on the icon.
Attempt to scroll through the available icons with the arrow keys.

Results:
The dialogue box will close and accept the new icon without the user pressing
okay.

Or:
Remove the last letter of the entry field.
IE: /usr/share/icons/Human/48x48/categories/gnome-globe.png to
/usr/share/icons/Human/48x48/categories/gnome-globe.pn
Add the letter you removed back
IE: /usr/share/icons/Human/48x48/categories/gnome-globe.pn to
/usr/share/icons/Human/48x48/categories/gnome-globe.png

Results:

[Bug 8125] Re: username for smb printer is not shown on printer properties

2006-05-16 Thread Soren Hansen
I've located the problem. It stems from cups not sending back the full
DeviceURI, but rather a sanitized version (read: with all the
authentication stuff removed).

I've got a patch on my system that makes cups only remove the password.
We need to evaluate whether or not this poses a security risk in any way
to send the auth username back to the client. Optimally, returning the
username would depend on whether or not the user would be allowed to
change it, ie. has some sort of administrative rights.

I'll see what I can whip up and whether we consider it safe for
inclusion in the release.

[Bug 44876] Re: rhythmbox displays mp3 tags in non utf8 locales as latin-1

2006-05-16 Thread Tim Müller
Set the GST_TAG_ENCODING or GST_ID3_TAG_ENCODING or
GST_ID3V1_TAG_ENCODING environment variable to the charset you want to
force.

(This is a problem that can't really be solved satisfactorily otherwise
with ID3v1).

You might need to remove your ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml and make
rhythmbox re-import those files for this to work (you might lose your
meta information so far, do at your own risk).

[Bug 43537] Re: External file removal does not update status bar

2006-05-16 Thread Nicholas Wheeler
I can confirm this bug happens with Nautilus 2.14.1-0ubuntu7. I cannot
confirm the last part of the bug, as this bug does NOT appear with two
nautilus sessions running. If I remove a file from one, both of them
report a loss of one file. This bug is present using terminal/nautilus,
however. If I delete a file in terminal, nautilus recognizes the loss
(the file disappears), but the file count number stays the same.

[Bug 40646] Re: "cdda:///dev/hdc" is not a valid location

2006-05-16 Thread Emmanuel Touzery
according to:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/nautilus-list/2005-July/msg00208.html

this works in fedora, so if it's true (and the author of that mail is the
maintainer of nautilus so i guess it's true), there is code to do that and it
should be doable without writing new code.
but obviously the code is not in GNOME and some flags must be changed or maybe
even the code be patched.

Well, I tried it in dapper as of 16th may 06 with all updates, and still
the same old problem. Auto doesnt work, but vfat does.

I wish devs would take thsi more seriously, just because not everyone
uses the nice USB memory sticks, users like charities with old floppy
disks, will never take up Ubuntu.
