[Bug 294458] [NEW] nautilus memory leak

2008-11-05 Thread poofyyoda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10 64bit
Package version:1:2.24.1-0ubuntu1

When nautilus tries to browse a folder with the attatched file in it,
Memory usage increase extensively until all ram and swap is filled, until
program is killed.
This also affected firefox when I was trying to upload the responsible file.

I have renamed the file to memleak.bin, which prevents thumbnailing of the file.
If thumbnailing is disabled the memory leak does not occur.

The memory leak occurs in Ubuntu 8.04, if the file is given a .jpg
extension, but not at all in Ubuntu 7.10

The file originated from my 'wine' windows folder, called "INSNPREF.32n", which
I believe to be a
windows trojan which somehow affected wine.

Steps to reproduce:
1. download attatched file
2. extract the archive
3. browse folder and remove '.bin' from the filename.

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 294053] Re: when battery low and AC power is plugged in system shuts down or anacron message pops up

2008-11-05 Thread Poyntz
** Description changed:

  OS distribution: Ubuntu 8.10
- Package Version: 2.3-13.1ubuntu6
+ Package Version: 2.24.0-0ubuntu8

What is expected to happen when I plug in AC power: Absolutely nothing,
other than I get confirmation that the power pack has been plugged in
and no interuptions in any text editors I may be running

  What happens:
Console Mode - If I'm in a text editor I get the message: "* Starting
anac(h)ronistic cron anacron" displayed within my test document.
GUI Mode - My PC shuts off with no notification

  Steps taken:
  1) I receive a "power low" notification
  2) I plug in the AC adapter
  3) I get the "anacron" message (console) or my PC shuts down (GUI)

After starting up again, or saving and exiting my text file before using
"clear" to get rid of the rubbish in shell:
  - I opened the anacron file to find that it's a simple text file with a few
paths inside. - Not much help there
  - I looked in the /var/log directory but couldn't see any logs pertaining to
anacron that could help me
-
- Are there any logs I should be specifically seeking out? Is it even an
- anacron issue or could it be a power manager issue or something else?

[Bug 294467] [NEW] Panel won't refresh

2008-11-05 Thread Alban
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

>From new installation of Ubuntu intrepid on toshiba satellite M60-184 :

The two panel (top and bottom) won't refresh (and icon arrange randomly, but
it's another bug allready reported). They not freezing, they working but they
don't refresh.
For example clock applet with " show second option " : The time seems fixed,
Yesteday at 4 h 53 the clock says 2 h 35 et five minutes later says 4H58. this
means the panel won't refresh more 2 hours !

Other example when I changing virtual desktop the widows list is
nowhere. Somtimes waiting just 2 secondes for have de windows list in
the bottom panel but sometimes waiting for 30 minutes or more. The
windows list is here, when i left cliking or right cliking I have de
right menu and widows appear or disappear. I make a screenshot more
explicitly example.

Other bug the shadow (see on the screenshot). This bug is only appears
when i get up ubuntu after a suspend mode. The shadow problem is on
panel, right click menu and notification info.

Desktop effect (compiz) are activated.

[Bug 294466] [NEW] Rendering specific PDF is very cpu intensive

2008-11-05 Thread LKRaider
Public bug reported:

I'm attaching a file that makes the issue visible

Evince takes 100% cpu, for quite a while, to draw each page. In the
sample file there are only 3 pages, but I have similar documents with
many more, and it becomes impractical to read them.

I used valgrind --tool=callgrind to try to detect what functions were
the most stressful, and libpoppler comes up no top, with functions such
as GfxDeviceCMYKColorSpace::getRGB and StreamPredictor::getNextLine the
most expensive ones.

2008-11-05 Thread Rocko
I was about to when I accidentally fixed the problem. I'll do one if I

I was hoping the strace might help in seeing what was causing the
temporary freeze - normally gnome-system-log starts up and fills its
text windows pretty fast, and the strace I got from the hang looked
quite different from a normal one.

[Bug 294498] [NEW] Intrepid: Zenity progress do not show progress and download speed

2008-11-05 Thread david_kt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zenity

I am piping a download progress using below script:

wget -nd -c --read-timeout=300 --retry-connrefused --header "Accept-
Encoding: gzip,deflate" http://www.tartet.com/target_file 2>&1 | sed -u
's/.*\ \([0-9]\+%\)\ \+\([0-9.]\+\ [KMB\/s]\+\)$/\1\n# Downloading \2/'
| zenity --progress --auto-close --title="Downloading File..."

It works on Dapper and Hardy, but not on Intrepid. I have tried to downgrade
from zenity 2.24.0 to zenity 2.22.1 (which is used in Hardy, I installed Hardy
deb package on intrepid). As for the dependency, it removed rarian-compat and
ubuntu-desktop meta package and installed scrollkeeper.

But it is still the same problem. Or maybe other packages in Intrepid or
Gnome that cause this problem ?

[Bug 291850] Re: zenity does not show pulsate progress bar

2008-11-05 Thread david_kt
For progress pulsate, mine is still working in intrepid, but not for
progress bar.

May be you could try to add redirection in your script, so, from:

wget -cv
"http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz";
|zenity --progress --pulsate --auto-close --title="teste da barra de
progresso" --text "Download de
:\n\thttp://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz\nDownload
para :\n\tinstall_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz..."

change it to:

wget -cv
"http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz";
2>&1 | zenity --progress --pulsate --auto-close --title="teste da barra
de progresso" --text "Download de
:\n\thttp://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz\nDownload
para :\n\tinstall_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz..."

I have confirmed progress pulsate works if you add redirection.

[Bug 291878] Re: Notebook Volume Up/Down Buttons Misbehaving

2008-11-05 Thread Aaron Pickett
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 268949 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268949

I'm not convinced that this bug is a duplicate of #268949, for two
reasons:

1. 268949 describes the volume not responding at all to keyboard/button
input. In this bug, the volume does respond to input, but does so
continuously. I have verified that the GUI slider in the panel app does
move up/down (and continues to move to max/min volume) when the volume
buttons are pushed.

2. 268949 does not report the additional problems with mouse input after
trying to use the volume up/down button.

These two bugs may be related, but they are not the same behaviors.

[Bug 294521] [NEW] When using keyboard, email address auto-complete selects wrong address

2008-11-05 Thread Michael Gauthier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-sendto

This is a corner case turned up by testing the fix for LP Bug #195580.
It only occurs when using the keyboard to edit and submit the dialog.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Right click -> send to...
2. press TAB (to focus email field)
3. type 'mar' in the email field
4. use arrow keys to select second 'Maria' in the autocomplete list
5. press enter to select the address
6. press enter again to send the file
7. The first address is filled in in Evolution instead of the one I selected.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
 * Does gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///directory/example/video has the
same issue?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

[Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG and i845 video cards

2008-11-05 Thread Kapil Kathpal
I'm from India, using D845GVSR motherboard with 845G onboard graphic card.
Was using Ubuntu 8.04.1 with all Effects with "i810" drivers.
But in Ubuntu 8.10, same as earlier said it hangs on login screen.
It can start be wid "vesa" driver but movie plays are very slow.
With "Intel" driver, movies plays fine but no effects.
With "i810" driver, it shows show kinda error.. and asks to revert to generic
settings.

So finally switched back to 8.04.1.
Choosed "i810" drivers. Everything working fine now. with all effects.

[Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG and i845 video cards

2008-11-05 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
@guy: You're the first person to comment on this bug without one of the
two mentioned chipsets. The other nvidia user on this bug was seeing an
entirely different, much less severe bug in compiz causing a delay
during login. You probably want to file a different bug, with the
output of lspci, Xorg.0.log, "compiz --replace", etc.

@k35below: The "somebody" who decided to deprecate the i810 driver was
upstream: Xorg & Intel. "Driver i810" has been a synonym for "Driver
intel" for quite some time on other distributions.

[Bug 58171] Re: Connection to ICE-unix/.. socket times out so programs take minutes to start

2008-11-05 Thread Smeuuh
Hi,
happened to me again. My .xsession-errors gets flooded with messages saying it
doesn't connect to ICE. Here's a sane strace emacs :

connect(4, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/tmp/.ICE-unix/6212"}, 21) = 0
fcntl64(4, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0
write(4, "\0\1\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8) = 8
read(4, "\0\1\0\267\0\0\0\0", 8)= 8

When buggy, it becomes :
connect(4, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/tmp/.ICE-unix/6241"}, 21) = 0
fcntl64(4, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0
write(4, "\0\1\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8) = 8
read(4,

The bug seems to differ of the one other commenters have in that /tmp
/.ICE-unix/6241 does exist.

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards

2008-11-05 Thread Filippo Argiolas
Andres, as I said in bugzilla I was wrong about libv4l.. I don't know
what made me believe that patch fixed the issue (it was late and I was
really tired) but, unfortunately, it doesn't.

Also please forgive me if I appeared rude with you, I didn't want it,
it's just that lately too much people says cheese doesn't work with
intrepid but it's just that many changes went in webcam drivers with
2.27 so some regression went in too and we have no power on it.

Anyway it seems like it's not a cheese issue at all. I have the issue
and can reproduce it only if I use the webcam at maximum resolution both
with cheese and gst-launch.

gst-launch-0.10 v4l2src ! video/x-raw-yuv, width=640, height=480 ! xvimagesink
Works perfectly, it can be run many times with no issue.

gst-launch-0.10 v4l2src ! video/x-raw-yuv, width=1280, height=1024 ! xvimagesink
Locks and the webcam doesn't work anymore without reloading uvcvideo.

Could any of you confirm this? I'm going to report it to the uvcvideo
developer.

Does the new session infrastructure even have the features of the old
one? As far as I can tell, there's no obvious way to set the order in
which the .desktop files get executed. (at least not one google's found
for me yet)

[Bug 294036] [NEW] Evolution can't handle OpenOffice attachments with doubleclick

2008-11-05 Thread Said Babayev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

1)Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

2) evolution:
  Installed: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2

3) I'm trying to open a MS Office file (.xls/.doc), from message window
in attachment section, but nothing happens. If I right click, and select
"open with openoffice", it works. All other files are ok, (.odt, .ods,
.jpeg, etc)

4) When I double click a file in attachment section, it should open with
openoffice.

Seems like problem related to file association

[Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys turns on randomly

2008-11-05 Thread P4man
Ok, this may not be a high priority bug, but after 10 months, the bug is
still there?

FWIW, I also use tsclient (so as client, to connect to a windows
machine) and it may be related to the mouse keys switching on, but its
hard to find a pattern, and it occurs even when tsclient is not running.
But without having run tsclient during a session, I have not yet
encountered it afaict.

Once you know what is happening, and you know shift+numlock disables it
again, it is no drama. But most users will not read this and think
ubuntu can not even drive a keyboard without errors. In that light, its
a bit disappointing this still isn't fixed. If nothing else, I think a
notification should be given when mousekeys are turned on (with or
without this bug), so at least people might realize whats going on. Just
a little balloon stating "mouse keys turned on. Press shift+numlock to
turn off again".

[Bug 293797] Re: evolution programs crashes when using inside calendar

2008-11-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 249373] Re: gnome session does not restore the previous session

2008-11-05 Thread cannam

At the risk of asking a really stupid question, does anyone have an idea
whether there's any likelihood of a workaround such as installing and using the
Gnome 2.22 session manager with 2.24? Or using a different session manager
entirely? I don't mind hacking my system to get this to work, but if anyone
can warn me that I'd be wasting my time, I'd appreciate that.

(I ran straight into this on the first machine I upgraded, and I don't
want to upgrade any others unless I can find a fix. This regression in
something I thought was one of the main functions of the desktop makes
me feel extremely gloomy, but I won't vent any further here.)

Mark Howard (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xchat-

Use gconf-editor, browse to apps/xchat/main-window, and change the
'background_type' key from 2 (transparency) to 1 or 0. xchat-gnome works
fine after that.

Re: [Bug 276094] Re: gedit uses %100 CPU when opening a file in /var/lib/dpkg/info/

2008-11-05 Thread Blade II
I had the problem even after updating with the new pre-released one as
suggested, yet disabling the filebrowser plugin solved it.

Regards,
Kevin

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards

2008-11-05 Thread Fabian A. Scherschel
It seems like they are making some progress on the Gnome thread.
However, I have now dug up an external gspca cam that is experiencing
very similar issues. I also now have problems outside of cheese with
both cameras which is weird since I haven't changed anything related to
video on my system. I am beginning to think this might be a general
gstreamer issue.

thanks for your report.

The file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list is probably not
respecting an apt source list file format. Could you please check it and
attach it to this report ?

not a gnome-terminal bug.
