[Bug 352215] Re: ekiga crashed with SIGSEGV in calloc()

2010-02-11 Thread Vish
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.
You reported this bug a while ago with ekiga version 3.2.0-0ubuntu1.

We were wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest version .
[If you are using The Karmic Koala = version 3.2.5-1ubuntu1
Or in The Jaunty Jackalope = version 3.2.0-0ubuntu2 ]

Can you try with the latest ekiga version and report back ? Thanks in
advance.

[Bug 481576] Re: Action on critical battery is not triggered - gnome-power-manager

2010-02-11 Thread bivanbi
My hardware is Lenovo s10-2, about 2 months old, battery in mint
condition, Ubuntu 9.10 with latest updates applied.

Experience: I kept a close watch on Power Statistics - Detail. My
remaining time, percentage etc displayed correctly all the time. When
percentage and remaining time reached 0, the netbook run for another 10
minutes before suddenly powering off. So at least battery information is
correctly interpreted by Ubuntu.

[Bug 481576] Re: Action on critical battery is not triggered - gnome-power-manager

2010-02-11 Thread bivanbi
update: out of curiosity, set threshold levels of _critical and _action
to 93 and 92 percent respectively. (battery fully charged)

Killed and started gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --verbose and waited.

I when reached 92%, another minute passed, when I received a warning
that it is going to hibernate NOW. And indeed it did.

gnome-power-manager produced NO output on stdout or stderr, except for this
line _after_ waking up from hibernate:
(gnome-power-manager:3975): devkit-power-gobject-DEBUG: DBUS timed out, but
recovering

So at least I know that I was able to catch messages from gpm.

[Bug 496956] Re: when returning from sleep, nautilus opens removable media

2010-02-11 Thread Oded Arbel
This is 100% reproducible on my laptop running a fully updated Ubuntu
9.10. I'm using a thinkpad X61s with an internal SD card reader. The
thinkpad also has a docking station with a DVD writer, and if I resume
when the docking station is connected and there is a disc in the DVD
drive, I also get the What would you like to do with the disc you just
inserted dialog in addition to the SD card being opened.

I'm going to upgrade my laptop to Lucid for Alpha 3, but as it features
the same GNOME version (no 2.30, right?) then I don't assume it will
behave differently.

Here is my kernel syslog from waking up - I don't see anything interesting
there except the last line about the cdrom. I think the SD reader is connected
internally through USB, so that might be related.

+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Create a new directory in Nautilus (e.g. newdir)
+ 2. Right click on the new directory, select Properties
+ 3. Click on the Notes tab, enter a note in the text box and click Close
+ 4. The directory icon changes to indicate that a note is associated to it
+ 5. Selected the directory and rename it (e.g. renameddir)

+ Expected behaviour
+ The note stays attached to the directory when it is renamed
+
+ Actual behaviour

[Bug 519671] Re: Mount volume Lacie - no permission to work

2010-02-11 Thread Bruno Girin
OK so in short, when you connect to your LaCie hard disk, everything is
considered as read-only: you can read and copy from the disk but you
can't write or copy to it.

Quando collegui il LaCie al tuo EeePC, puoi apprire un terminale e
farre:

cd /media
ls -ls

Per esempio, quando ho il mio disco Samsung collegato, mi da:

total 40
 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 2009-11-13 20:44 cdrom - cdrom0
 4 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2009-11-13 20:44 cdrom0
 0 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 7 2009-11-13 20:44 floppy - floppy0
 4 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2009-11-13 20:44 floppy0
32 drwx-- 15 bruno bruno 32768 1970-01-01 01:00 SAMSUNG

dopo fa encorra:

cd LaCie (o qualcun nome si usa per il tuo LaCie)
ls -ls

Sul mio, ho per esempio:

 32 drwx-- 12 bruno bruno 32768 2010-01-08 20:58 Photos

[Bug 327793] Re: Window decorations in title bar missing with compiz enabled

2010-02-11 Thread Greya
I have the same problem with the window decorations. I found to solve it but
just until the next reboot
I have compiz settings off, and I even had my compiz uninstalled when this
problem occurred.
Temporary solution: I turn Compiz effects to Normal I wait for it to apply
Keep settings Turn back to Compiz effects Off (for when it's on - it slows
down everything).

Today I found what the problem is - it is XORG!
I've tried the solution proposed by w4w4n and I found out that my xorg.conf
file is gone! I remember there was some xorg updates recently - so, I suppose,
the bug is due to these recent xorg updates which, apparently, deleted the
existant xorg.cong file !without backup!

I have a xorg.conf backup - but I cannot reach it for the moment (I'm
far from home). What should I do to reconfigure xorg without failure?

Thanks, I hope it will help!

[Bug 160862] Re: users-admin (System-Administration-Users and Groups) overwrites group file

2010-02-11 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
The fix (as linked aboved) is simply to ensure split() stops when it has
4 items. That way, we ensure we won't pass more arguments than the D-Bus
binding expects, which prevents the script from dying. So the garbage
gets packed in the last field, i.e. users that are members of the group.
This is not a problem since clients will simply get unknown users with
strange names and ignore them.

Ideally, we should check that every field is valid, but for a backport,
a one-line fix that works is better. Anyway, if the line is not correct,
we can hardly behave better than clearing the list of members of the
group.

[Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2010-02-11 Thread David Fraser
Ah, my problem was misunderstanding the SCIM config

See http://www.scim-im.org/forums#nabble-td4554222|a4554222

Basically I found that in the SCIM Global Setup I had
Shift-Control-KeyRelease-Shift_L, Shift-Control-KeyRelease-Shift_R,
Shift-Control-KeyRelease-Control_L, and Shift-Control-KeyRelease-Control_R
defined. Removing these stops the Control-Shift trigger.
But I missed this even looking at the SCIM dialog multiple times because it
looks more complex than a Shift-Control keypress

So although the Control-Shift in scim is incompatible with Ctrl-Shift-*
shortcuts, I can disable it, so this isn't a problem for me know

[Bug 511095] Re: GDM logs out / disconnects user randomly

2010-02-11 Thread Pascal Vandeputte
Are you sure this is gdm-related? I just experienced the same problem
for the first time today on my Kubuntu 9.10 (hence with kdm instead). On
an HP EliteBook 8530p with a ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD
3650 (fglrx driver).

X crashed and kdm should have restarted (but AFAIK on this hardware the
system then halts completely). The log may show some more stuff at the
end because I tried some SysRq combinations to reboot cleanly (which
failed as well).

[Bug 520442] [NEW] luks header of newly created partition not written to disk, on reboot partition unrecognised

2010-02-11 Thread Wolfgang Kufner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

I have now managed to produce an unusable luks partition 4 times. 2
times with the mint rc (karmic based) loopback mounted from hd via grub2
and now 2 times with lucid 20100210 64 bit daily iso loopback mounted
from a usb stick via grub2 on a different notebook.

Here is how:
use gparted to make space by making the main partition shorter. I made empty
space of about 10GB at the end of the disk.
use palimpsest to put an encrypted partition in this newly created empty space.
tried with both ext4 and ext3. used default options.
the filesystem is created and can be mounted. put stuff in. unmount. shut down.
on reboot there is no luks partition anymore: gparted says unknown and
palimpsest says unrecognised
sudo most /dev/sdax shows that partition has no luks header. a lot of zeros at
the beginning instead.

when using palimpsest in the same manner on this faulty partition again
to overwrite it with another encrypted partition all worked well.

[Bug 520136] Re: time-admin crashed with SIGSEGV in strchr()

2010-02-11 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Thanks for catching that one! I've been able to reproduce the crash with
an up-to-date Lucid LiveCD. It happens because we've changed the way
callbacks are handled, and the pointer to the dialog was invalid, which
means we were using a NULL pointer for the server address.

I've just pushed a fix upstream, which should be available in Lucid with
the gnome-system-tools 2.29.91. Please continue testing the gnome-
system-tools in Lucid to help us making it a great release!

[Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2010-02-11 Thread Oded Arbel
If I may expand on it a bit, with SCIM on and XKB layout switching set to
CTRL+SHIFT, there are 3 contenders for CTRL+SHIFT, and they supersede each
other in this order:
1. XKB
2. SCIM
3. Application's CTRL+SHIFT-key shortcuts

The patch from FreeDesktop.org bug #865 fixes it so that 1 (XKB) no
longer blocks 3, but it still blocks 2 because CTRL+SHIFT release is
eaten by XKB and SCIM doesn't see it. I think its OK as you wouldn't
want to assign the same shortcut key to both keyboard layout and SCIM.

[Bug 186307] Re: Window List Invisibility Issue (Programs Disappear And Come Back Randomly)

2010-02-11 Thread myxiplx
Is this the right place to report that I also see this problem? I see
notes that it has been reported upstream, but I don't see any link to
where I could comment.

I've been experiencing this problem regularly. I have a non-expanded
bottom panel, with desktop effects enabled, and multiple desktops. The
window list often stops updating, sometimes on one desktop, sometimes on
a couple.

The workaround I've been using is to switch to a desktop with a non-
frozen window list. That seems to wake it up again and gets the other
desktops working.

 Status in Nautilus: Unknown
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: nautilus

When renaming a directory that has a note assigned to it, the note is lost.

 Steps to reproduce:
 1. Create a new directory in Nautilus (e.g. newdir)
 2. Right click on the new directory, select Properties
 3. Click on the Notes tab, enter a note in the text box and click Close
 4. The directory icon changes to indicate that a note is associated to it
 5. Selected the directory and rename it (e.g. renameddir)

 Expected behaviour
The note stays attached to the directory when it is renamed

 Actual behaviour
When renaming the directory, the directory icon reverts to the normal icon
 and the note is lost.
When renaming the directory again to its original name, the icon reverts to
the note icon and the note is available again.

[Bug 420842] Re: Huge memory leak in Rhythmbox

2010-02-11 Thread Shaun Thomas
I'll pipe in here. I just killed rhythmbox because:

ps axo rss,command:50,pid | sort -nr | head -1

366280 rhythmbox 2452

Really? After restarting it, it's at about 30MB. I can't imagine why
playing a list of OGG files is so demanding, but apparently it is. I'll
just have to switch to mpd until this is resolved.

[Bug 416236] Re: [Regression] No do nothing for laptop lid closed action

2010-02-11 Thread wolfwitch
I did a fresh install of Karmic on my Dell Latitude and this problem
came up. I had a similar problem with my HP netbook. I had previously
done an upgrade install of Karmic and the Do Nothing option wasn't
removed from Power Management. It took me awhile to figure out why my
external monitor wasn't working right. The command Lars gave fixed it:

gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/gnome-power-manager/buttons/lid_ac
nothing

No restart was necessary, and Do Nothing is now an option in Power
Management. I can close the laptop lid and the external monitor stays
on.

[Bug 255008] Re: Up arrow key mapped to Print [screen]

2010-02-11 Thread Friedrich Strohmaier
I've marked Bug #512622, filed myself, as duplcate of this bug. It is
describing the wiredness mentioned in Bug #254939 which I also marked
as duplcate. I'm aware it does so in a confusing manner.

Lucid Lynx is also affected.

In the essence my search which also led me here, ends up to following:

Introducing evdev managing keybords resulted in changing keymapping of
the non ascii keys (guess!) in a non reasonable way. Did all that
keyboards out there change the same? ;o))

At least this is incompatible to xmodmapfiles created for xfree86 driven
keyboards.

from my point of view solution could be:

most elegant:
- make evdev output reasonble (i.e xfree86/xmodmap compatible, for all that
keyboards out there already are ;o)) )

if evdev output is reasonable in any way (I don't believe):
- make xmodmap detect evdev driven keyboard and handle apropriately

or worse:
- kick xmodmap to avoid confusion

grml.org team (recent debian testing) solved that problem by managing
the keybord by xfree86 and all the rest by evdev (don't know how, but it
works as expected with my old xmodmap files)

Worst case in my opinion is to kick xmodmap, because we will loose
xkeycaps - a great tool to manage complexity of keybord issues in a
quit easy and portable manner.

I'm not really an expert, so maybe I'm lost completely with this.

Other conclusions ending in a working solution for this pain always
apreciated. :o))

Re: [Bug 506527] Re: Rhythmbox loses podcast feeds - specifically from BBC Radio 4 Start the Week with Andrew Marr and Friday Night Comedy. I am a UK resident.

2010-02-11 Thread George Stephenson
Dear Pedro,

Thank you for your reminder about terminating this bug report about
Rhythmbox. I tried to replicate the conditions of the fault and follow
your instructions to create the report to send to you. However, being
totally unfamiliar with the use of machine code and text terminal
commands, I could not understand your instructions. As yet, no-one has
been brave enough to publish an instruction manual for the benefit of
people like me. I'm afraid I'll have to leave the use of the Terminal
to anoraks until then. With respect to the fault, in the last couple of
days I have received updates from Ubuntu/Canonical which have solved the
problem.

Thanks for your help,
Regards,

George Stephenson

[Bug 410072] Re: A middle mouse button paste in gedit does not move cursor to insertion point

2010-02-11 Thread Raimund Andersen
Ok, now here comes the workaround:

http://github.com/potyl/gedit-scrollpaste

Emmanuel Rodriguez aka 'potyl' wrote a 'plugin' which fixes the scrolling when
pasting text with the mouse.
Unfortunately, it's placed in sourcecode only in a 'repository-style', which
means there's no configure script.
As I'm not very familar with these auto* tools, it took me a day to make it
compile, but for me it's worth the pain.

In short form: After archiv extraction, call in the top level dir:

intltoolize --force --copy,
intltool-prepare,
aclocal,
automake --add-missing,
autoheader,
autoconf,

Then I created a 'Makefile.in' on the top level dir:

all:
$(MAKE) -C src || break ;

Now it should be possible to call the usual configure, make.
I prefered to copy the files manually instead of 'make install'.

I can confirm this thing works for me!

BTW: Potyl demands the use of gtksourceview-2.0 = 2.8.1, so it's not
applicable to Ubuntu jaunty and below.
