[Bug 696546] Re: Crypic error comment

2011-01-03 Thread Robert Roth
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 696744] [NEW] keyboard shortcut applet assigns incorrect action

2011-01-03 Thread Ryan Martineau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

1) Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
2) gnome-control-center 1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1
3) Expected to assign keyboard shortcut: "Mod4+M" to action: "Hide all normal
windows and set focus to the desktop."
4) "Mod4+M" then executed another action.
When assigning a keyboard shortcut for the action "Hide all normal windows and
set focus to the desktop," the applet incorrectly assigns the new shortcut to
turn all windows negative when attempting to assign the action to the shortcut
"Mod4+M" (Mod4 referring to the "Windows" key). Tested with other shortcuts,
such as "Shift+Alt+Q" and "Ctrl+Shift+F11" no bug is noticed. Reproduced
consistently. Mod4 key combinations are currently used in other shortcuts
without bugs.

[Bug 696764] [NEW] font in menu is illisible only square signs

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Went here only because i've recognized the icon to report bug but the
text wasn't readable as all the menus there.

Tried to reinstall it after complete deletion in synaptic.

Tried a deletion of the folder "evince" in .gnome2 of my $HOME folder
but without any success.

I know I had a few weeks ago put the Ubuntu font everywhere but don't
know if it"s why that doesn't run as well as before..

The same pdf files run well with evince inside the Crunchbang Linux

Possible workaround without installing the evolution-packages:

$sudo mv /usr/lib/nautilus-sendto/plugins/libnstevolution.so /usr/lib
/nautilus-sendto/plugins/libnstevolution.so.old

which disables the buggy nautilus-sendto plugin for evolution.

[Bug 696766] [NEW] Eog is unable to display multipage TIFF but is the default viewer for TIFF files

2011-01-03 Thread neuromancer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Eye of gnome, the default image viewer of Ubuntu, open only the first
page of a multi page TIFF image, hiding from end user existence of other
pages.

After a little research I've found the this bug have a long story:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=132276
Upstream this bug was not fixed because this feature was implemented in Evince,
the generic document viewer used by default also by Ubuntu... but for me, and I
think also from all other *end users* this is a non sense because evince in
Ubuntu is not associated to open by default TIFF files so *end users* who
receives a multi page TIFF doesn't know that this TIFF are multi page because
EOG completely hide this information, showing only the first page :(

Same consideration are reported also here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=385781

I think we need to move forward with a simple and function solution.
For example I propose:
- make Evince default viewer for TIFF images
- make Evince default viewer only for multi page TIFF images (it's possible
without adding more and more code?)
- adding analogue feature to EOG (maybe using partial code from evince)
- EOG should inform in it's gui that this TIFF has more pages and should
provide a link to open it

Ahhh. Perhaps the bzr branch I have here is "maverick" and not
"maveric-updates". Is there any way to switch from "maverick" to
"maverick-updates" in my tree here? I'm a total bzr newb, so I'm not
really sure if it's possible and if it is, how it's done. Thanx.

[Bug 696773] [NEW] Rhythmbox Play/Pause button not working correctly

2011-01-03 Thread PC
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Ubuntu 10.10 32bit standard live CD used to install system on a Dell
Studio Laptop 1555.

Rhythmbox Play/Pause button not working correctly, in both "mini" (from main
Gnome bar sound icon) and main Rhythmbox GUI window, and with laptop hot-key
Play/pause, worked correctly in Totem Movie Player (v2.32.0), both the button
in the Totem GUI and the laptop play/pause hot-key.

If you open Rhythmbox, and select a track. You can start the track
playing using one of the play buttons, main/mini/hotkey, but after that
pressing any one of the play/pause buttons does not pause the track. If
you quit from the Rhythmbox you can then repeat (ie start a track using
one of the play buttons).

Note that pressing the "pause" icon in the GUI causes the button to change to a
"Play" button, but the track continues playing. If the "Play" button is now
pressed nothing changes, ie it remains as a "Play" button.
If you quit from Rhythmbox, re-start Rhythmbox, this behaviour can be repeated.
The same is seen if you press the "mini" player "Pause" icon once a track is
playing.

Suspect (guess) that this issue started after installing the "unity" (netbook)
window manager? I cannot be sure as I have also installed the various updates
that have been available. The issue above is occuring with the standard Gnome
window manager. The same behaviour also occurs if I use the netbook window
manager.
To confirm that the play/pause buttons had worked previously booted up using
standard Gnome 10.10 32bit live CD. Rhythmbox play/pause and laptop hotkey
buttons worked corrected.

Other buttons (ie the previous and next track) work correctly both in
the main GUI, mini player, and using the laptop hotkeys.

[Bug 647607] Re: Totem and Recent Files in GNOME Places Menu show 'playbackvideo' instead of the video title and extremely and horrible tootips for recent Youtube streams played on Totem

2011-01-03 Thread Omer Akram
thanks for your bug report. I have sent this bug to the people writing
this software here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=638567
you can make comments there too.

** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #638567

** Changed in: totem
   Importance: Undecided => Unknown

** Changed in: totem
   Status: New => Unknown

** Changed in: totem
Remote watch: None => GNOME Bug Tracker #638567

** Changed in: totem (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

** Changed in: totem (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Triaged

** Summary changed:

- Totem and Recent Files in GNOME Places Menu show 'playbackvideo' instead of
the video title and extremely and horrible tootips for recent Youtube streams
played on Totem
+ Totem shows 'videoplayback' instead of the video title

** Description changed:

- I found this technical and aesthetical just some minutes ago, and I
- think this is a papercut in all the whole expression.
-
- The bug title is enought by itself for understand the problem; you can
- reproduce it just starting Totem and in the right side panel you choose
- Youtube. Then, you find and play the video stream, whatever you want:
- What do you have? Same as image 1, the video title, the timeline video
- with a 'Youtube' conduct (showing where are you in the video and how
- much does it have charged) and other stuff are OK, but the tootip of the
- video thumbnail inside Totem is pure pain at my eyes showing ALL the
- video URI with the video title... PAPERCUT! If you want the video URI,
- you can get it with a right click over the thumbnail (you are not going
- to remember the complete URI from the tooltip and write it perfectly
- correct in a web browser...)
-
- OK, that was the first part of the papercut. Well, the video finish and
- you decide to go back to work... some hours after you want to see again
- the same video from Youtube inside of Totem... Click on Places > Recent
- Files... OMFG!? Where is the video I have played on stream?! I see a
- 'videoplayback' one, but I'm unsure it is the video I was seeing... This
- is a real mistake with Totem and GNOME's Recent Files integration; if I
- saw 8 different videos from Youtube, and all of they are called
- 'videoplayback', how can I recognize them? Same problem with that
- 'videoplayback' tooltip, extremly large (image number 2).
-
- Well, let's imagine I click this 'videoplayback' waiting that is the
- video I played before... Wots! it is, but the Window Title says this
- annoying 'videoplayback' AGAIN (image number 3).
-
- There are my 3 sand grains for Ubuntu :).
-
- Greetings,
- JaD!
+ after playing a youtube video in totem. if you go to 'Movie' menu and
+ see the recently played videos, the title for all youtube videos is
+ 'videoplayback' which makes it quite hard to replay a video.

2011-01-03 Thread Benoit THIBAUD
yes it's the same bug than the one here :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/631088

By deleting the link to the windows fonts it's fixed.

Thanks a lot Gary !

I'll will select what font I really need before link the whole folder
and if that affects evince again, will find an alternative font. (I
don't use windows anymore but have that fonts folder only for mail
content compatibility : pps files mostly that aren't that important !!)

[Bug 694792] Re: rhythmbox crash segfault error 4 in librhythmbox-core.so

2011-01-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 696816] [NEW] some PDF documents use 2-3GB memory

2011-01-03 Thread Rebecca Palmer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

On opening the document http://uk.arxiv.org/pdf/1012.5738v1 in Evince,
memory usage (as reported by System Monitor) rises to 2-3GB (requiring
swap use) and the mouse and keyboard temporarily become unresponsive.
They recover enough to scroll away from the affected (first) page after
about 10-20sec, and the memory is freed after about 30sec.

While the symptoms resemble bug 138343, that related to large bitmaps
and has been fixed, while this trigger contains no images; it may be
more closely related to bug 188079, but neither
http://uk.arxiv.org/pdf/0801.4602 nor http://uk.arxiv.org/pdf/0801.4754
trigger it in the current version.

[Bug 694173] Re: In ubuntu classic session, the panel shows a lot of errors like "applet X closed inmediatly"

2011-01-03 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Additionally to that, "Enable extra typographic characters" messes up
original layouts, so for example in Finnish layout there is no way to

[Bug 696826] [NEW] can't change keyboard layout

2011-01-03 Thread Teodori Serge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Hello,
Serious keyboard problems with Ubuntu 10.10

I changed my keyboard, now I need to change the layout from "Italy" to
"Switzerland French".

I opened "gnome-terminal", then typed "sudo gnome-keyboard-properties", went to
"Layout" tab, added the new layout, moved it up, pressed "Apply to whole
system"and clicked on "Close". The result is as expected:
1. "Switzerland French"
2. "Italy"

Everything worked fine till I reboot. After reboot the layout returned from
"Switzerland French" to "Italy", so I went again to
"gnome-keyboard-properties", and the result was:
1. "Italy"
2. "Switzerland French"

At this point I thought, why keeping the old layout, so after moving up
"Switzerland French" to the top (again), I deleted the "Italy" layout,
and to be sure I applied it to the whole system, closed it, then I tried
it in "gedit" (everything was fine the right layout is active), finally
I thought let's check it out another time (just the layout I need was in
the list of "gnome-keyboard-properties") and reboot the system.

After the second reboot the "Italy" layout showed up again on top:
1. "Italy"
2. "Switzerland French"
and the wrong layout was active once again.

I had this problem also on Ubuntu 8.04 two years back. Can anybody tell me
where I can correct this, or at lease give me hint??? Last time I reinstalled
Ubuntu, because nobody had an answer to this problem, which is still not
corrected.
Can anybody tell me where to find those source and config files, I will try to
fix this.

Thank you and best regards.

[Bug 693385] Re: empathy shows offline contacts when I ask it not to

2011-01-03 Thread Ursula Junque
Now I see that the problem happens when I use space bar to expand groups.
Independently of the "Offline contacts" being checked or not, it shows all
contacts, online and offline. Ctrl-h doesn't work to hide them.

It seems also that, in this situation, when empathy updates the buddy
list all groups expand again, even if I close them all manually.

Upstream users-admin now prevents changing home dir for active users. I don't
think we should require a reboot because that's not likely to be useful. usermod
currently fails because it checks whether the user is logged in - if
only a few processes are still running, they are not likely to block
changing the home dir. And killing them would be a mess given how the
gnome-system-tools are designed.

usermod refuses to change the home dir of active users, based on the rationale
you suggested above. If you think there should be an override option, file
a bug against usermod. But we should make sure this would theoretically
work. And anyway doing so brings the risk of being locked out of the
only admin account in case something goes wrong - so that's not
something to recommend.

[Bug 201786] Re: ssh Agent admitted failure to sign using the key on big endian machines

2011-01-03 Thread ski
I don't think this problem is related to big-endianness. I just had it
on a x86 system that was upgraded from feisty -> hardy -> lucid. In my
case the fix was simple: apt-get install seahorse-plugins. For whatever
reason that dependency doesn't seem to be pulled in when you upgrade.
I'd recommend folks try that first if they are having problems.

Here is the patch submitted upstream to correct this issue. It sets
StaticGravity on viewport changes, as the spec says it should.
