[Bug 698256] [NEW] All network file transfers crash nautilus and the file system.

2011-01-06 Thread Thomas Nickson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have tried SSHFS. NFS and samba and the same thing happens for all 3.
When transferring a file or watching something over the network the
connection drops after 10-15 minutes resulting in the death of nautilus
but also any interaction from the filesystem via the command line.

Setup:

Ubuntu 10.10 (laptop) - DDWRT (router) - ArchLinux (main computer)

The connection from the router to the main computer resets and ends up
with a new IP address after the crash but nothing else on that side is
affected all works fine.

I attach a dump of dmesg and some samba files (i can only attach one
file it's the dmesg dump), I'm really not sure what else to include.

I do notice a lot of dropped connections in the dmesg with regards to
wireless but i'm not sure how normal this is.

Thanks.

[Bug 694910] Re: Regression: patch to bug 539477 breaks Super+P keybindings

2011-01-06 Thread Iain Murray
I applied the workaround in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/539477/comments/64
to make super+p work again in Maverick at the expense of breaking the
Gnome monitor settings GUI.

For those suffering, possible workarounds to the breakage the workaround
causes are: a) to change monitor settings with the Gnome control panel,
temporarily undo the workaround; or b) drive xrandr from the command
line or use the arandr GUI front-end to xrandr instead of the Gnome GUI.

[Bug 698266] [NEW] Multiple artist CD import: artist name lost after import

2011-01-06 Thread Matt Hegarty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When importing a CD with multiple artists (film soundtrack) the artist
information shows up correctly on the CD (see RhythmBox-1.png), but after
import (right-click CD, 'extract to library') the artist information is listed
as 'Unknown'. (see RhythmBox-2.png).
I expected that artist information would be retained

[Bug 698275] [NEW] everytime i click an icon on the upper panel in gnome the panels dissappear

2011-01-06 Thread John Vivirito
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Running Classic Desktop Edition i click on my icons for running apps
example: Firefox icon the panel disappears than comes back after some
time, not right away maybe 10-15 seconds.

I expect the panel to stay showing. This didn't happen with the 100+
updates but after reboot/turn PC on it happens. Not sure what update it
was, It has been a week or 2 since i last updated until this morning.

I have 9 icons for apps and everyone causes this to happen. It seems
that the Ubuntu Desktop Edition (with unity) looks the same as the
Classic one now but either one i choose has this same issue. I cant
figure out how to tell if it is running/enable/disable Compiz as it is
no longer in appearance dialog, i was hoping to test and see if it is
related.

Any other info you need please let me know.

[Bug 124992] Re: Symbolic links aren't resolved when creating a zip archive

2011-01-06 Thread chrysn
i think that the most reasonable default behavior would be to keep
relative symlink that resolve inside the archive, and to dereference
those that are not included. (i'm aware that this is not currently
implemented in the regular zip utility, but it might be a good idea to
implement that as an option there too.)

it would be nice to have a configuration option; in situations in which
the files to be compressed are known, that could be hidden if simplicity
is desired.

[Bug 698348] [NEW] screensaver does not display but screen is locked

2011-01-06 Thread Brian Murray
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

When running unity if I lock my screen via ctrl+alt+l the screen is
locked but the screensaver image does not seem to start. So I can still
see my desktop and move the cursor around and but can't click anything.
This was quite confusing. I can unlock the screensaver as usual or kill
the gnome-screensaver process to get back in. This does not happen when
I am not running unity. It also happens if I let the desktop session
become inactive for some time. I'll test with another screensaver too.

[Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2011-01-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
@Alexey Kozlov, thanks for your well written summary of the problem.

The one warning flag is the contradicts spec issue (which may be what
has blocked this from being taken up 'til now), however the exact words
from upstream about this seem less dire:

The patch looks pretty much fine to me, except that I'd just hardcode
release-only and don't try to make it configurable. I'm not entirely
sure about the bit marked with KLUDGE, and would like to find a better
way to do it, but if that's fixed (I'll try to have a look this weekend
or next, depending on time), my only objection to merging it is that it
explicitly contradicts the spec. I'm not entirely convinced that's a
 dealbreaker though.

I can understand that voiding the spec is a blocker for upstream, but at
the distro level there's a little bit more flexibility, especially given
the top-level direction that we'll eventually move away from X11 towards
something Wayland-ish anyway.

It sounds like the next step required for this patch is to gain some
more widespread testing. Since the change is behavioral, it seems low
risk for causing crashes or other critical issues, so tentatively I'm
willing to stick it in natty and see how it goes.

[Bug 698877] [NEW] Rubbish bin won't empty

2011-01-06 Thread AnthonyJohn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I am using Ubuntu 10.10
The rubbish bin won't empty. I've tried every method I can think of and, to
date, I have about a fortnights worth of deleted items in there. If I right
click on the bin icon it shows the bin being emptied but the items are still in
there. All other methods show up as a fault and the only option is to skip the
delete.
Also, if I click on the minus button on an open window, it vanishes completely
and I have to open a new window. They don't show up on the bottom tool bar as I
would expect them to.
Please excuse me if I appear ignorant but I have only just found Ubunta and the
wonderful world that you people are helping to create. Any help will be
gratefully received, even if it's only to point me in the right direction. I
really want to get on with Ubunta and tell Microsoft where to go. If I can make
a success of this I will get lots of my friends etc to follow.

[Bug 646902] Re: Brasero crashes when trying to burn without an active GNOME session

2011-01-06 Thread Mario Limonciello
** Description changed:

+ Impact:
+ Brasero is only usable in desktop sessions that include GNOME. Running in
KDE, Openbox, XFCE, or any other environment causes a crash.
+
+ Addressing:
+ The bug has been fixed upstream and is in the next release of Brasero already
in the current development Ubuntu release (natty).
+
+ Minimal Patch:
+
http://git.gnome.org/browse/brasero/patch/?id=3775cd7fc7d15aa03131a1d5cdccf57f185e2b92
+
+ TEST CASE:
+ 1) Install Kubuntu
+ 2) Install Brasero
+ 3) Attempt to burn a DVD
+ 4) Observe a crash
+
+ Regression Potential:
+ Regression potential is low, the patch that's included is just properly
cleaning up after an error when the system was unable to inhibit suspend due to
GNOME not running.

Re: [Bug 693337] Re: Menus for choosing language should have one option per available translation

2011-01-06 Thread Arne Goetje
On 01/07/2011 12:51 AM, Martin Pitt wrote:
 Arne Goetje [2011-01-06 16:32 -]:
 What about /usr/share/locale/ ?

Good point, thanks, I missed that. I think we should offer

  - all languages/locales from /usr/share/langpack-locale/

 plus

  - the intersection of /usr/share/locale/ and `locale -a`

Gunnar, how does that sound to you?

Just keep in mind that each time a universe package gets installed or
removed, the list of available languages may change then.

 * As regards languages with more than one translation: When the
country is not specified, does it matter which of the locales that
is assigned to the LC_MESSAGES environment variable?
 No, it doesn't
for messages. It is relevant for $LANG and other LC_* categories, of
 course.

Why not? Falling back to en_GB for English, while the rest of the LC_*
and LANG is en_US, should surely be avoided.

en_US does specify a country, though. As we are always going to have
en_GB as an explicit variant, this case doesn't apply to English or
Portugese. I thought this was for the case if we only have de
translations, then the country in LC_MESSAGES doesn't matter.

right, missed that. I'll shut up now.

I guess for the actual implementation in l-s and gdm we don't need
to parse /usr/share/xml/iso-codes/, as these already have the
 translated names of the locales?

hmm? l-s parses /usr/share/xml/iso-codes/ for exactly that reason.

Right, but it does that already, and gdm doesn't (it'd take too long
during boot). I was referring to Gunnar's perl script which currently
 parses those.

ah, OK. :)
Regarding gdm: why would a simple gettext call to iso-codes, like it is
done in l-s, for the list of available languages/countries be too slow
at boot time? Is there a notable time difference between calling the
translation for a string form iso-codes and calling for a translation
from its own translations?

Cheers
Arne

It has not mattered which screensaver. I have used the default ubuntu
feet as well as the floating ubuntu logo. I would like to use the GL

blank screen option and the same thing happens. I have a toshiba laptop
which this is on so maybe it is something int he rom code of the laptop
which is causing the problems. This did not happen before I loaded ver

But if you think they both should be covered by one bug, then I'd need

to something like

wordexp(location, expanded_location, 0);
location = expanded_location.we_wordv[0];
g_object_set (engine, images-location, location, NULL);

[Bug 283115] Re: gimp 2.6: toolbox windows can't be minimized

2011-01-06 Thread André Pirard
This bug is NOT a duplicate of bug #288461.
Bug #288461 says that GIMP images are below GIMP dialogs when GIMP is used.
Bug #283115 says that when GIMP is not in use, its dialogs clutter the screen
because they can't be minimized.

[Bug 445141] Re: Podcasts don't download if the files are all the same filename.

2011-01-06 Thread Alexei Colin
@Luca: I'm no authority on this but your situation looks strange. The
filename you are seeing is constructed as a result of the patch that was
submitted to fix the bug. However, for you podcast it shouldn't fall
back to the escaped uri filename because gvfs-info reports that
stardard::edit-name is set, which means edit-name should be taken as the
filename (since copy-name is not set). I would look at the debug output
when downloading any of those podcasts: run rhythmbox -d.

Sidenote re my comment #19: it seems people do care about filenames. But
handling podcasts with episodes with identical copy-name's (and/or edit-
name's) still needs to be resolved. Perhaps a new bug needs to be
submitted?
