[Desktop-packages] [Bug 840940] Re: Some resolutions missing from oneiric
@Sebastien Bacher: yes, it does. Switching to it through "xrandr -s 840x525," though, takes nearly as much as thirty seconds. Same thing for switching back to the native resolution. Switching to available-in-monitor-settings-window resolutions was almost instantaneous, conversely. However, as I previously mentioned, the desired resolution is lacking from that monitor-settings window (it was present in natty). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/840940 Title: Some resolutions missing from oneiric Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Right now I am under natty, using a 1680x1050 monitor, and I can go to "system settings > monitors" to select a 840x525 resolution. However, when I was testing oneiric (the first beta), whenever I would go to "display settings" using that monitor, the double-scaling 840x525 resolution would be unavailable from there, although it would be from "NVIDIA X Server settings." [Desktop-packages] [Bug 525717] Re: [Upstream] Writer Format Paintbrush formats more than selection
turbolad, as per upstream rationale it is agreed this is not a bug: As per: http://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Copying_Attributes_With_the_Format_Paintbrush when "Text is selected" it is noted that it "Copies the formatting of the last selected character and of the paragraph that contains the character." While the default action is not intuitive, the WORKAROUND does give one the opportunity to achieve the expected results. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 644659] Re: "Enable extra typographic characters" conflicts and overrides "Adding Esperanto circumflexes" option in gnome-keyboard-preferences
Is this supposed to mean the bug no longer exists? Should be "Nobody cares", not "Expired". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/644659 Title: "Enable extra typographic characters" conflicts and overrides "Adding Esperanto circumflexes" option in gnome-keyboard-preferences Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center On all Ubuntu versions since "Adding Esperanto circumflexes" option was introduced, if conflicts with "Enable extra typographic characters" option. Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to System -> Preferences -> Keyboard 2. Open Layouts tab, click Options... 3. Enable "Add Esperanto circumflexes" (Dvorak or QWERTY, doesn't matter, I use QWERTY). 4. Make sure "Key to choose 3rd level is enabled" 5. Open Gedit, type additional Esperanto characters by pressing s, c, u, j, h, g with 3rd level key. You should get ŝ, ĉ, ŭ, ĵ, ĥ, ĝ correspondingly. 6. Back in keyboard preferences window, enable "Enable extra typographic characters" located under "Miscellaneous compatibility options" 7. In Gedit, type the same sequence again. You'll get §, ©, ŭ, „, ĥ, ĝ — half of the characters in question are replaced. Desired behaviour: The best possible thing would be to ensure we have an option to choose which setting overrides another in this case. I suppose it's a lot of work. My point is: people that are enabling Esperanto circumflexes do need those and do know what they are doing. I suppose they would rather have Esperanto characters working at the cost of §, © and „ in "extra typographic characters". Perhaps a note in the preferences window warning about this override would be nice, too. I expected finishing the transfer. 4) The file transfer window appears and after a few percent of progress, it stops copying. I can not close the window, because when I click the cancel button, it goes to gray and nothing happens after that, so I have to kill the nautilus process. In addition, the dropdown is not particularly understandable when accessed through the keyboard; the only thing that really says what it does is a tooltip. A user could easily choose one of the options out of confusion, unexpectedly changing the new password he previously entered. When my Canon EOS 500D camera is mounted using gvfsd-gphoto2 in Nautilus everything seems to be OK until I enter a folder with photos and videos. gvfsd-gphoto2 then loads previews of all files in that folder, but it seems that it doesn't free up the memory used correctly because it uses hundreds of MBs of memory or even more. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 575563] Re: Window management stops working after upgrade to Lucid
[Expired for metacity (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: metacity (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575563 Title: Window management stops working after upgrade to Lucid Status in “metacity” package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Binary package hint: metacity (Beware: The bug appears on a different kernel than the one reported by ubuntu-bug. Details below.) After I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid, then after every boot, mouse clicking and Alt-Tab work fine in the beginning, but very soon, only the item that has keyboard focus responds to the mouse. The rest of the computer becomes almost a brick, but not entirely. It seems the mouse buttons and Alt-Tab work fine until I click on one of the thin strips at the top and the bottom of the screen, or click inside a window. After that point, only the item that has keyboard focus responds. More details below. I suppose this is a severe bug, since non-technical users won't know how to get around the problem, and won't be able to use their Ubuntu to look for a solution. For them, the upgrade produces a brick. WORKAROUND: The problem appears when I boot with the kernel that sits at the top of the boot list after the upgrade, kernel 2.6.32-21-generic. I have not seen any similar problems when booting with the preceding kernel, 2.6.31-21-generic. (During this latter boot some errors are reported, but the system seems to work fine so far.) My system as reported by ubuntu-bug is the exact machine and partition that has the bug, but using the above workaround. I have only made a few limited tests, since I have no idea what tests will be helpful, and every test requires a time-consuming reboot. Here's a detailed list of the symptoms I've seen: After boot, clicking on window titlebars works right, windows can be raised and dragged. If I then click an icon in the thin strip at the top of the screen, the application starts fine, but after this point, mouse clicking works only on the icons in the thin bar at the top. Nothing else anywhere on the screen responds to the mouse. After boot, if I open the Applications menu with Alt-F1, and start applications with arrow and return keys, I can do this several times to open several applications. After this, I can use the mouse several times on the titlebars of different windows to drag, focus and raise the windows. Alt-Tab works right too. But if I then click inside a Firefox window, so that the webpage gets focus, I can no longer use the mouse to raise and drag windows. Then the thin strips at screen top and bottom don't respond to the mouse either. Alt-Tab stops working too. At this point I tested Alt-F1, and saw the "Applications" word get highlighted, but I could not see any menu below. Either the menu didn't appear at all, or else it may have appeared hidden behind the window that had focus, because that window happened to cover the space where the menu should appear. After boot, if I click one of the running-application buttons in the thin bar at the bottom of the screen, then after this point only those buttons respond to the mouse buttons. Clicking windows or the strip at the top of the screen has no effect. Clicking the buttons in the bottom strip minimizes and unminimizes windows as it should, at least when clicking the same button several times. I don't remember if I tested on several buttons to see if other buttons worked right. In all cases, at the end of the test I could reboot using Ctrl-Alt-Del followed by arrow keys and return key. Please tell me if you'd like me to test something in more detail or submit log files etc. My knowledge of these things is limited, so I don't know what may be useful to you. The screensaver preferences were set on the Helios screensaver and set to activate after 5 minutes of inactivity. Upon awakening the monitor by moving the mouse or touching the keyboard, any open windows would be shifted from their previous position. For example Firefox always shifts down, other windows shift in the northwest direction. The title bar, min/max & close buttons of each window disappears. The screen does not completely freeze but I am unable to click on the top of the window and move it to its correct location. I am able to activate the top File-Edit-View toolbar and close the windows but only on the window that is on top. I am unable to switch to an alternate window. If you would like me to test this further, please let me know. This bug did not exist with the Karmic release. Restarting the computer returns functionality. I have disabled both the screensaver and the power management settings and have not had any further problems. I expected the screen to be fully functional once it is awakened from standby. Yup, I quite agree. The fact that this continues to be on the "too hard" list may be one of the reasons that Thunderbird is apparently the default email client Ubuntu 11.10. Let alone what happens to syncing contacts via Ubuntu One. Unmounting from Nautilus does not get rid of the iPhone icon until I physically disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone. My other USB devices, such as the 2TB external iOmega hard drive, exhibit identical behavior. This bug still affects Evolution 2.32.2. Quite frankly I struggle to believe that you can't save embedded base64 images from a mail to a file. This is basic functionality for a mail client in 2011. Noone, especially "mum & dad" users, should be expected to have to do their own view source & base64 decode themselves. Is there any chance that this issue will be fixed in Maverick and Natty? Instead of displaying : "Sébastien ABEILLE " it is displaying : "=?ISO-8859-1?Q?S=E9bastien?= ABEILLE " Screenshot attached. There are no problems to render a accentuated name in a contact entry, problem is only with mailing lists. I had a look at #146184 which is also a rendering problem in mailing list display, but with html special characters, fixed in 2.21.90, which I can not test currently. Would be nice if someone could try to reproduce it with Hardy see if it is still there.
