[Desktop-packages] [Bug 892454] [NEW] network-manager starts up with wireless disabled
Public bug reported: Lubuntu 11.10 network-manager 0.9.1.90-0ubuntu5 As I have wireless connections already setup-- ones that connect automatically and are available to all users-- I would expect these connections to, well, connect automatically upon startup. Just like the ethernet ones do! Instead, nm-applet appears greyed out. Right clicking on the icon finds wireless, as with all the other connections (though, admittedly, there are no relevant connections set up), unchecked. If I, then, click on wireless, my connection automatically starts up. Therefore, the problem seems to be not in the connection, but in the fact that the wireless is disabled. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 863154] Re: Wacom Bamboo One tablet random coordinate malfunctions
Re #73: the bug, or at least the underlying problem is not GIMP- specific. While GIMP will react with drawing a straight line to the edge of the canvas, at least some Krita beta builds crashed due to out-of- range coordinates. Serial Wacom Intuos 2 here, so the report title and Affects is not accurate. This makes successful use of any (?) tablet impossible and turns current Ubuntu into a non-option for everyone relying on working with one. I think this suggests a high importance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/863154 Title: Wacom Bamboo One tablet random coordinate malfunctions Status in The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP): Unknown Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The tablet in overall seems to work correctly, with all pressure- features working. But quite frequently, while drawing, GIMP seems to wrongly read the coordinates of the stylus (as zeros, or negative values?), resulting in frequent, random 'line-peaks' in the direction of the left and upper image edges. With this bug it is hard to even use the tablet, since these problems are very frequent (see the exemplary image attached). The tablet works with no problems in MyPaint. The bug is reproducible in both Unity-2d and Unity-3d. I also notice the CPU usage increasing dramatically during drawing with any brush. Steps to reproduce: 1. Connect the Wacom Bamboo One tablet 2. Open GIMP 3. Start drawing longer strokes with any brush Expected result: The brush stroke as intended by moving the stylus Actual result: The brush stroke as intended with frequent, random line-strokes towards image edges System: Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric (development branch) GIMP version: 2.6.11 (package version: 2.6.11-2ubuntu3) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gimp/+bug/863154/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 886198] Re: Nautilus crashes when getting properties of a file on a DVD drive with no region code set
Sorry, but I fixed my system, so that I now can no longer reproduce the bug. Steven On Tue, 08 Nov 2011 19:40:39 +0100, Sebastien Bacher seb...@ubuntu.com wrote: Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 632341] Re: Num Lock is not activated by default at GDM
The 11.10 release of Ubuntu saw GDM replaced with LightDM. Does this problem still exist in the latest release? (I don't have a number pad on my keyboard to test this out). ** Changed in: hundredpapercuts Status: Triaged = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/632341 Title: Num Lock is not activated by default at GDM Status in GDM: The Gnome Display Manager: New Status in One Hundred Paper Cuts: Incomplete Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: gdm This is a pretty trivial bug, but it may be a candidate for future a 100 papercuts cycle. I did try searching to see if it had been reported before, but couldn't find any - apologies if I've missed it! At present, NumLock isn't enabled when you go to log in to Ubuntu, so you have to manually enable it before entering numerical passwords on the number pad. While this isn't a critical issue, it is one that I feel should be fixed. I don't know anyone who uses the number pad for its arrows, and other OSs do enable NumLock by default. Additionally to achieve this behaviour at present requires installing the numlockx package, and manually editing /etc/gdm/Init/Default - which is clearly not appropriate for new users. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 267642] Re: copying a folder from a secure webdav server to disk results in a html file
As indicated in the GNOME bug and verified by me with an up-to-date lucid install: This does not only affect COPY but also MOVE. Whereas the situation for COPY is unfortunate, because the contents of the folder are not copied, for MOVE it results in a massive data loss, because not only are the original files not moved/renamed, but also they are deleted, leaving you with just a listing of them... [Desktop-packages] [Bug 876839] Re: Proxy GUI in 11.10 does not configure socks proxy for HTTP traffic
Proxy settings on oneiric just don't work. I just don't understand how functionality and value was reduced from natty and all its ancestors, and the people are only finger pointing - this bug is similar to that and that bug was addressed by so and so... There is a button for applying proxies system wide. The button does not work most of the time. It doesn't ask for a sudo password most of the time. It does not modify /etc/environment. It does not create any proxy settings in /etc/apt/conf.d/ It looks like this will *never* be fixed. Whatever bug you file - it will be similar to some other bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876839 Title: Proxy GUI in 11.10 does not configure socks proxy for HTTP traffic Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Running Ubuntu 11.10. gnome-control-center: Installed: 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu6 Candidate: 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu6 Version table: *** 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu6 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status The new GUI doesn't correctly toggle gconf/system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy to true when only a socks server is specified. Without this, neither Chrome nor Firefox will attempt to tunnel through socks. As a workaround, set this value manually using gconf-editor. Reproduce by setting up a socks server using the standard ssh -D port user@remote_machine. Attempt to configure the system-wide proxy by entering localhost and port into the new 11.10 proxy configuration utility's socks server fields. Open Chrome or Firefox and change the app's proxy settings to use system. Notice that no HTTP traffic tunnels through the system socks proxy. Somewhat related: the ignored hosts list is very useful for users on corporate networks where they do need some internal resources. It should be included. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 892566] Re: when i entered a dvd than two icon appear
For me those 2 icons don't perform the same action (and they don't look exactly the same either). Maybe merging them might make some sense, but requires taking into account the user's settings for this type of device/medium (maybe providing an option to open the dialog from the launcher icon's right- click menu so that those who disabled it can still access it?). So maybe when showing this dialog is the default new medium action set by the user, it could also show this dialog when clicking the device icon in the launcher? Or maybe it should only focus that dialog window when it's already there? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/892566 Title: when i entered a dvd than two icon appear Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: when i entered a dvd than two icon appear suddenly, when we login then there is no icon in the launcher but when i entered a dvd why there is 2 icons appear?i think one is enough . both have the same function and both are same but there is a colour difference in them as you see in the screenshot. if this is the icon for message of new dvd so this should be merge with the drive icon.like the other application and it shows two arrows in the launcher like the other application shows simple. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 735665] Re: Impossible to disable middle-click paste without breaking the middle mouse button
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: gnome-desktop (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-desktop in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/735665 Title: Impossible to disable middle-click paste without breaking the middle mouse button Status in X.Org X server: Won't Fix Status in “gnome-desktop” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I've found plenty of forum posts from other people complaining about this but I couldn't find an existing but report in Launchpad. It baffles me to find that there is no way to disable the middle-click screen buffer paste feature without breaking the middle-click button on the mouse altogether. I'm sure there are lots of people who think it's nifty. However, for me and others, it is just annoying. If I am scrolling in a text editor like Gedit and the middle-click button actually gets pressed, it often pastes a chunk of text in the middle of the document and I don't notice because I scroll right by. This leads to trouble later on. My searching indicates that a common solution to this problem is to re-map the middle-click button to something else (so that it behaves like either the left or right button, or just does nothing), using xinput or by editing Xorg.conf. However, this breaks other applications that use the middle mouse button for other things (opening and closing tabs in Firefox, middle-click scroll). There should be a solution to this problem other than map the middle- click button to something else and get a new mouse that doesn't accidentally click. I don't care if it's setting an option in an obscure text file. To reproduce: - Open Gedit. - Type some text. - Select some text. - Middle-click somewhere in the document. - Selected text is copied to where you middle-clicked. - No (documented) way to disable this behavior without re-mapping the middle-mouse button, breaking other middle-click functionality. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 892530] Re: LibreOffice writer gets locked up on trivial operation
Arie Skliarouk, if the program just hangs indefinitely without crashing, could you please perform an Strace of the hang by following: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Strace ? If it eventually crashes after hanging, then please mark this bug Invalid and follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. One may execute at the Terminal: sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/892530 Title: LibreOffice writer gets locked up on trivial operation Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Open a document, Format-Page-Paper format, select different paper format than you have at the moment Now press Apply three times. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890441 Title: nautilus memory leak Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: There are other bug reports with this description, but they are either 3-4 years old, or closed, or invalid, or expired. I'm not doing anything exotic, but after about an hour or two of using my system (not even copying or moving files, or thumbnailing, or...) memory usage in nautilus goes up to 1.4G or so. When I kill this task, re-launch nautilus, it sits happily on just a few hundred meg... and then begins to grow again. It also takes a LONG time to start up, and the system is very unresponsive meanwhile... like 20 seconds. This may be a useful clue? I tried to do a valgrind report, but it makes nautilus so slow as to be unusable -- like 2 minutes to open a folder on the desktop... so I couldn't exactly use it normally to get a good log. Nonetheless, here's a log I did capture. I trust that the data captured by ubuntu-bug will have my library versions, cpu type, RAM info, etc. Please let me know what else I can provide. Thanks!
