you use the open source Nouveau driver or the Nvidia one?

After a while being connected to Windows Live Messenger network, no
matter if there is or no activity on user side it happens that I can
not open new contact windows from the contact list (double-clicking a
contact does nothing). On the other hand, if I did open the contact
windows before, I could still communicate with those contacts (if they
were still online, of course). Also, when contact goes offline, it's
said so in the contact list, but none of the contacts appear to be
listed as online when they do come online.

I don't get any pop-ups about crash, but it's obviously happening and
those were the symptoms of the crash.

Problem resolves when I kill the "telepathy-butterfly" process and
then just simply reconnect through Empathy GUI.

This big has been here since I first used Empathy and I can't believe
  it's not fixed yet.

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

I have my laptop plugged into a KVM switch that is connected to one
keyboard and one mouse. But if I click the power manager icon, it
  lists:

  Laptop battery X:YZ until charged
  Keyboard (100%)
  Keyboard (100%)

As you can see Keyboard is listed twice. But I only have one! Maybe
because the laptop itself has a keyboard? The keyboard plugged into
the KVM switch is wireless and indeed has a battery, so it makes sense
for it to be listed, but the laptop keyboard has no battery apart from
the battery of the laptop itself.

If I click on either of the keyboard entries, a window pops up titled
"Power Statistics." Along the left hand side there is a keyboard
entry, but here there is only 1. And for Vendor it says, Logitech,
Inc, Model, Keyboard+Mouse. My wireless keyboard is logitech brand, so
this makes sense. So for some reason it only lists an additional
keyboard when I click the icon.

P.S. Asking users for the release of ubuntu they're using after you
just required them to run a bug reporting tool to collect information
  is silly :P

Maverick only supplies 4 brightness increments on my PC, although I

  $ cat /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD/brightness
  levels: 12 24 36 48 60 72 84 100
  current: 72

For instance, when the screen is set to maximum (100), pressing the
brightness down keys (FN-down arrow) makes the brightness go to 72,
then 48, then 24, then 12. Pressing up from here makes the brightness
  go to 36, then 60, then 84, then 100.

Bug description:

In gdmsetup, I can set myself to autologin with a particular account.
However, if I run users-admin, that account says "Password: asked on
login", even though it's *not* asked on login (because I've got
autologin turned on). This is mightily confusing to people who do not
understand how the underlying bits all fit together, i.e., everybody
  :)

When I login, sometimes ( I'm sorry, but it honestly seems random...
as a programmer I know that is horrendously unlikely...) the music

does not appear. When I use that interface to reselect the folder I
wanted. The program crashes. on restart the music set in library
location is already loaded, and the program is fully usable.

My folder is on a partition without an operating system of its own. It
  operates like a media drive, media/Hypothetical Drive/Music/ect.

On a side note... I cannot take out any Library Location pathways.
This is a minor inconvenience. However, It' would be greatly
appreciated if that was an added option. Most Linux users agree that
the music file pathway loading is Rythmboxe's weakness. It's just one
less thing for us to be annoyed about. XP

Microsoft Bluetooth Elite Keyboard/Mouse Loses Connection

Status in “gnome-bluetooth” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Not sure what package this bug is related to, but it involves the
Microsoft Bluetooth Elite keyboard and mouse combination.

When setting up the keyboard and mouse combination initially using the
bluetooth-applet, both respond and work fine. In addition, they will
still work after periods of inactivity after a few seconds of moving
the mouse or hitting keys on the keyboard.

However, the issue occurs directly after a reboot. After rebooting
and GNOME fully loads and logs in the user (automatically), the
keyboard and mouse no longer work. Both devices still show up under
the bluetooth-applet menu as "Microsoft Mouse" and "Microsoft
Keyboard" and both have grayed-out "Connected" with a blackend
"Disconnect directly underneath. In the "Preferences" applet, both
device are also present but are not connect nor connect after
moving/click the mouse or keyboard for over 30 seconds continuously.

Strange behavior though - Upon reboot and the new Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic
splash screen appears, the bluetooth mouse DOES work (can't test the
keyboard since input isn't accepted at this point). However, a few
seconds before the Ubuntu sound plays, this is when the mouse and
  keyboard completely stop working.

This is from a fully fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic (development
branch) with all updates installed up until October 4th.

Microsoft USB dongle shows as "Broadcom BCM2035" under the "Friendly
Name" field in the bluetooth-applet's "Preferences" dialog box.

Bug description:

I want to use gnome-sound-recorder to record from various audio
devices; webcam/microphones and sound cards. Gnome-sound-recorder has
now way to select the device, at least it's totally impossible to
record from multiple microphones at the same time.

I have seen a patch to the gnome-sound-recorder that had a device
selection listbox, but it's not in the current version.

  Very important, urgent suggestion:
Replace gnome-sound-recorder with "audio-recorder". It can record from
multiple devices and records also Skype-calls etc. etc.

Using latest karmic beta, on a macbookpro 5.5
Bluetooth works fine for a bluetooth mouse that was setup while in jaunty
(using an older bluez package from intrepid following guideline from launchpad
q&a and bug reports, etc.).
Then I upgraded to karmic beta. I've just noticed today that if I manually
disable bluetooth (to reduce energy consumptoin while running on battery,
etc.), I can't re-enable it again withtout reboot (I didn't try loging out and
in again, sorry). When I attempt to re-enable bluetooth from the dropdown menu
associated with the bluetooth icon in the top bar (using gnome), I see that the
text changes as if bluetoth was enabled indeed, but no connection is done, the
bluetoth icon is still light grey, and no option to select the bluetooth device
from the list, as I could when I first booted the computer and opened the list
of bluetoth devices.

Unlock that old bluetoth package and using al packages from karmic
  doesn't make any change.

Does too much work on shutdown

Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution does a lot of work on shutdown - it downloads messages for
offline viewing, updates folder contents, filters mail, and (if these
things take long enough) actually downloads new mail.

At the very least the periodic new mail checking should be disabled
during shutdown, but ideally evolution should do the bare minimum to
ensure that local mail changes are reflected server-side and nothing
  more.

I prefer new messages to be on top, so I display them in a reversed date
order.
However, the order of messages within a thread always ascends 'downwards'.
  It looks like this:

  B - 2011-01-02
   > Re:B - 2011-01-03
> Re:B - 2011-01-04
  A - 2011-01-01

  X - 2010-12-31
  Y - 2010-12-30
  Z - 2010-12-29
  etc.

  instead of this:

I realized that since I installed Ubuntu, it doesn't use the swap

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 906712] [NEW] nautilus dir with subfolders marked with solid triangle

2011-12-19 Thread Sushi
Public bug reported:

Nautilus shows folders with subfolders with a solid triangle next to

least a clear triangle to indicate there are no subfolders.

I tried sending this idea to brainstorm but they said it was a bug and
told me to post it here.

Bug description:

Just a small wishlist. The CD/DVD Creator shows a message box after
burning the disk that it could not eject the disk, so I should eject
it manually in order to continue the operation. But this message box
shows only a Cancel button, which doesn't give the right feeling, I
mean it feels like clicking Cancel might cancel the whole operation.

I suggest to replace the Cancel button with an OK button or at least
  an OK Cancel one.

  See the screenshot.

When I create multiple addressbooks in Evolution and then create a contact in
book A, it also shows up in book B.
If I try to delete the addressbook I get a notify that I can do no such
thing. When I reboot evolution with evolution -force-shutdown and then reopen
evolution and delete the addressbook I can do that for just one book.

It seems that it is not working properly.

  I'm using Natty, evolution 2.32.2.

  default_folder_viewer not correctly migrated?

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I've always been using the "List" view in Nautilus. Since Oneiric
however, the view reverts to "Icons" whenever I change directory.

  System:
  * Ubuntu Oneiric amd64
  * Nautilus version 1:3.2.0-0ubuntu5

  Steps to reproduce:
  * Launch Nautilus by clicking "Home Folder" in the launcher
  * Set view to "List" (CTRL-2)
  * Double-click on the "Desktop" folder

  Expected:
  * The "Desktop" folder opens in "List" view

  What happens instead:
  * The "Desktop" folder opens in "Icons" view

  Observations:
  * Once you set "List" view, Nautilus remembers it, but _only_ for that
folder! For every new folder, it falls back to "Icons" view. I want "List" view
as default...

Title:
  battery power percentage, charging

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
(this is likely the "GNOME Power Manager" package, however launchpad
  says it doesnt exist)

1 hovering mouse over battery icon displays nothing (unlike the
  wireless icon).

2 clicking on icon does not show percentage only time till full

3 go to "Power statistics - device information" to make it say "device
information" at the top, choose laptop battery, and the Details tab
(strange that the text doesnt match). then look for "percentage", and
you ask "percentage what"? well thats what i wondered... it should
read "percentage full" (rather than just describing it as a
percentage), "capacity" is better and the one that is called
"capacity" already can be called "usable" or if the percentage is
  inverted, "wear".

4 suggest in Help ways of reviving the battery (or at least mention
it) - although this may be removed later by someone who sells
batteries - i have seen this corruption in wikipedia - one pitfall of
  open source...

Title:
Improved PostLogin script to for gdm 2.30

Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gdm

GDM for versions > 2.30 uses new Xauthority files under
  /var/run/gdm/... .

  This has the following implication:
  a) User connects to his ubuntu machine using ssh -XYC ubuntu-machine
  b) User tries to run an X11 command on the remote machine so that X11 is
redirected to his local machine
  c) User gets the following error:
  [username@ubuntu-remote-machine]~ $ /opt/emacs24/bin/emacsclient -c
Waiting for Emacs...X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication.

*ERROR*: Display localhost:10.0 can't be opened

The workaround in order to solve the above was to run the following on
  the remote ubuntu machine:

$ XAUTHORITY=... (the value it has in any processes that is under the gdm
process tree).
  $ export XAUTHORITY
  $ xauth remove localhost:10
  $ xauth merge ~/.Xauthority

  Ubuntu 11.04 Alpha3
Running on an Acer 5810TZ, in prior versions 10.10 and 10.04 the adjusting
the display brightness via the hotkeys would lock up the whole system
graphically, although some have reported the system was running underneath, I
was unable to test. Now the brightness keys work correctly, however afterwards
the top panel and applications ignore any mouse / keyboard input, however
brightness can still be adjusted. When adjusting the brightness the indicator
does not show the brightness level (as it does for volume). In versions 10.10
of both xubuntu and kubuntu the hotkeys did not cause any issues. The problem
seems to be specific to ubuntu specifically something in gnome.

  Error deleting partion
An error occurred while performing an operation on "USB064Mb" (Partition 1 of
USB2.0 FlashDisk): The operation failed
  Details
Error starting job: Failed to fork (Cannot allocate memory)
  "
The entire systems gets a bit laggy..

*Then after a while (when I am filling in this bug report!) I try to delete
the partition again, and this time: no error message and the partition seems to
be deleted Weird..
**Now, I tried to run the Read/Write benchmark. However, I again get an
error, this time:
  "
  Error benchmarking drive
An error occurred while performing on operation on "USB2.0 FlashDisk" (USB2.0
FlashDisk): The operation failed
  Details
A partition table was detected - write benchmarking requires the disk to be
completely empty
  "

***Again, while I am typing this: I try the Read-Only Benchmark --> and this
works fine..
Can it be that something on the drive is blocking attempts to write data
to it?

I don't understand the fork error and the read/write issue...

Please advice if you need more info: I am fairly new to reporting bugs
  (this way).
