[Desktop-packages] [Bug 185600] Re: [Upstream] LibreOffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep
** Changed in: df-libreoffice Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185600 Title: [Upstream] LibreOffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep Status in Compiz: New Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite: Confirmed Status in NVIDIA Drivers Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers-180” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “openoffice.org” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: Binary package hint: openoffice.org I've used Feisty and Gutsy but this problem has started happening only recently. Here are the steps to reproduce: 1. Open a document in oowriter. 2. Put the laptop to sleep. 3. Resume the laptop. Here are the symptoms: 1. Scrolling in the openoffice document is jerky. Basically, if I hit page up or page down, oowriter freezes for a few seconds and compiz grays the oowriter window (to show that the app is not responding), eventually oowriter unfreezes, refreshes its screen and is responsive again. If I try to scroll again, the same freeze repeats. 2. Sometimes oowriter seems to also cause other applications to temporarily be unresponsive. The symptom here is that compiz grays *all* the windows on the screen for a few seconds until oowriter becomes reponsive again. 3. No other application freezes like that after resume. Note that symptom 2 above happens *only* when oowriter is running. 4. This one is also a workaround: if I restart openoffice, the problem goes away. The hang up is that currently you can't get EOS signals from a pipeline, and that the message bus is overall broken. As far as I know, this is because pygobject doesn't grok the GstMiniObject type, which mean Gst.Message is an unknown type. There is an upstream bug with a patch (work in progress): https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=631901 I'm not sure if this would be too invasive a change to deliver to Oneiric users through a SRU, but this would help smooth the transition to PyGI (and possibly only shipping Python3 on the CD) for Precise as app devs could be working with PyGI and GStreamer right now on Oneiric. For what it's worth, this would really help Novacut. Either way, lets make sure PyGI + GStreamer rocks in Precise! (Side note: this also raises a question... GStreamer 0.10 or 1.0 in Precise?) [Desktop-packages] [Bug 885793] Re: .mkv & .flv videos don't play in Totem Ubuntu 11.10
I can play .mkv videos (Totem Movie Player 3.0.1 Movie Player using GStreamer 0.10.35), but cannot play SOME .flv files with the symptoms as explained above. Some .flv videos I can play, however. When I right click in Nautilus to see the properties of these not- playing files I get a popup window saying "Creating Properties window. You can stop this operation by clicking cancel." -- and that is all I get. From the files that do play, I do get a properties window. Looking at the not-playing files with `ls -l` or `stat` does not reveal anything interesting. I can play all these files with VLC player though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gstreamer0.10 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/885793 Title: .mkv & .flv videos don't play in Totem Ubuntu 11.10 Status in “gstreamer0.10” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: In Ubuntu 11.10, I can't play any .mkv or .flv videos in Totem. Right, that's the thought I had; will add it to a pending language- selector MP. I'm still confused, because in that case it shouldn't be possible to install an Oneiric version of ibus (with the im-switch depend), should it? I don't think anyone will actually leave Ubuntu for this issue, but it's the first thing a user sees when he logs in and it makes an horrendous first impression to see that icons just don't align to cuadricle. Icons in the desktop just don't align as they do inside Nautilus, horizontally they are fine but vertically there is not alignment at all. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 908762] Re: "Keyboard input method system" drop-down list is emtpy (ibus was installed)
Yes, this was an intentional change, to bring the packaging more in line with Debian. If language-selector requires im-switch in order to work, then language-selector should have the dependency on im-switch, not ibus. ibus is agnostic with respect to the different IM configuration systems. Also, Hung says he's running 11.10 but this change in ibus did not take effect until precise, so has nothing to do with the issue described here. Instead, the problem appears to be a lubuntu-specific issue where lubuntu is pulling im-config into its default install instead of im- switch. ** Changed in: ibus (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to language-selector in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/908762 Title: "Keyboard input method system" drop-down list is emtpy (ibus was installed) Status in “ibus” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “language-selector” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm using Lubuntu 11.10 and language-selector 0.56. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 908762] Re: "Keyboard input method system" drop-down list is emtpy (ibus was installed)
Hung Tran: You are welcome, and thank _you_ for reporting the issue. Maybe it's not all your mistake, after all - possibly the dependency change in the Ubuntu ibus package mentioned below has something to do with it. Steve: In ibus 1.4.0-3ubuntu1, im-switch is an optional "recommend" together with im-config. In previous versions it's a "depend". Was that an intentional change? I'm not able to attempt the repro suggested in #2. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/740306 Title: Dragging Nautilus window painfully slow/sticky Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: nautilus When moving the Nautilus window around, if any of the edges of the window is close to the edge of the screen, dragging becomes painfully slow; the amount the window moves relative to the mouse becomes drastically reduced. It's like there's some logic for 'snap to edge' that is malfunctioning. I usually run a single Nautilus instance, large enough to almost fill the screen (but not maximised). Frequently I need to move the window between my two monitors, and instead of a simple drag, the procedure is: 1. Move Nautilus window down such that none of its edges is close to the edge of the screen (i.e. so that the bottom edge of the window is safely off the bottom of the visible area) 2. Perform horizontal movement to other monitor 3. Raise window back up to desired position At first I assumed this was something to do with the window manager, but I only see this behaviour with Nautilus and not other programs. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 775117] Re: Thunar hangs on first launch of each session
I had the same experience as @gridcube (comment 15) on Xubuntu 11.10/Oneiric; very slow first open of Thunar, with multiple instances popping open. Last test, I tried to open my ~/Downloads folder in Thunar (via Kupfer); while nothing was happening, I tried opening my home folder in thunar from Terminal; shortly after *three* Thunar windows opened (one for Home and *two* for ~/Downloads). Joshua O'Leary's workaround (comment 13) of changing AutoMount to false in /usr/share/gvfs/mounts/network.mount seems to fix this hang for me. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. In the accompanying instance of Thunar, the "Network" item is missing from the side pane shortcut view.
