[Desktop-packages] [Bug 879473] Re: Document viewer does not support OpenType features
Can you provide the PDF to reproduce the problem. I expect the bug is probably in the PDF file. Text in PDF files is glyphs, not characters. Text extraction only works correctly if the PDF file provides the glyph to unicode mapping. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evince in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879473 Title: Document viewer does not support OpenType features Status in “evince” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Document viewer does display alternative glyphs activated through the OpenType tables but when I try to copy/paste outside of it, instead of the glyphs I only see a blank space. Most probably, that means that Document Viewer isn't able to "connect" the glyph with the underlying character code. Example: in a Serbian text U+0431 CYRILLIC SMALL LETTER BE has a Serbian localized glyph, which is different from the standard glyph, but when I copy that text, in the worst case scenario I should still be able to see a standard BE, leaving to the receiving program (Text Editor, Writer etc...) the capability (or incapability) to process OpenType features. But I only get a blank space instead. The right panel (with indexes etc...) doesn't even display the "weird" glyphs, only standard ones, and this is an additional nuisance, as the appearance turns out to be different from the main text. Another example: ligatures ct, ff, fi, etc... I get the same problem, they disappear, not just the ligatures, but the characters themselves, when I copy/paste. This is a very complicated issue, but I hope I've been able to make my point reasonably clear. Thanks cbds! Hi Martin, Sorry, I wasn't able to understand the issue fully. That's why I was asking it in a way to ensure if I was right. Its a bug in gnome-control-center, not indicator-datetime. ** Changed in: indicator-datetime Status: New => Invalid ** Package changed: indicator-datetime (Ubuntu Precise) => gnome- control-center (Ubuntu Precise) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/893197 Title: timezone map no longer allows reliable selection of the correct zone Status in The Date and Time Indicator: Invalid Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “gnome-control-center” source package in Precise: Confirmed Bug description: In precise, when I click on the "Time & Date Settings" from the datetime indicator, I'm presented with a timezone map. Clicking in the general area of Iowa/Illinois, US, which is firmly in the US/Central timezone, results in "Vincennes" being selected as my timezone - which is wrong, Vincennes is in Eastern time and the highlighted region is clearly not where my mouse pointer was! moving slightly to the left and clicking again, while staying in the right area for the Central timezone, I now get "Denver" selected, which is one timezone to the WEST of what should be selected. If I move my mouse up into Minnesota and click, I get "Rainy River", which is in the right general timezone but in the wrong country ( == DST rules are not guaranteed to be the same). Clicking again at the same point does no good - it does not cycle through the cities in this timezone band, only continues to present me with the same wrong zone. By trial and error, moving the cursor a pixel at a time and clicking again, I'm ultimately able to choose Chicago. This UI is completely unusable. I know it didn't work this poorly in oneiric, so something seems to have regressed upstream. Thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. The LibreOffice 3.3.x branch is no longer supported by upstream http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan#3.3_release . LibreOffice Productivity Suite → Invalid As well, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport create a crash file. One may execute at the Terminal: sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and attach to this bug the crash report you wish to submit. Created a form with the wizards. I noticed some things that I wanted to change so I opened up the form in design mode. At this point is where the problem arose. The toolbars are not showing up. I went to View --> Toolbars to select the form toolbars and nothing happens after I click on them. Opening tables show the total record count at the bottom but the number is wrong. I have a table with 129 records. The record count showed only 16. I had to navigate to the last record to have the correct number show up. This was a slow operation too. I went then to prepare a simple report to see if the problem of the toolbar and speed showed up. Tried the wizard which went good until it tried to show the report. It threw an error. Then I tried the manual report creation which went really good (all the toolbars showed up). Until I tried to run the report. This time, it crashed the application. At this point, I do not know if this is a bug for the LibreOffice team or the Ubuntu team. I have used Calc, Writer, Impress, Draw and Math without problems which to me seems to rule out the possibility of problem on my end. They are free floating, which make them difficult to manage and set them at a proper place, specially when working on a high resolution screen. By default, they should snap, snapping should be an option that can be enabled/disabled and the interval for the snap grid should be configurable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370034 Title: [Upstream] No horizontal ruler snapping in Writer Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite: Confirmed Status in The OpenOffice.org Suite: Confirmed Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “openoffice.org” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: Binary package hint: openoffice.org 1) lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.04 Release: 11.04 2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-writer libreoffice-writer: Installed: 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5 Candidate: 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5 Version table: *** 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 3) What is expected to happen is when one clicks the horizontal ruler in effort to set up consistent margins, tab stops, and paragraph indents, it snaps to the markers. 4) What happens instead is they have complete freedom of movement. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 510059] Re: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share
I just installed the desktop version of Ubuntu 11.10 on my 2nd computer. Right after the install I tried to access the samba shares (my main purpouse for installing ubuntu). I have two computers who share and both of them was listed as computers in Nautilus. Nautilus did not however list my router with USB that also shares through samba. One of the machines runs Openelec (linux dist) and I could access that by doubleclicking it and I saw it's shared folders. I could also navigate into windows shares but I could not access my workgroup there. So I upgraded all of the packets after installation (245) and now after reboot it asks me for password every time I try to access the workgroup. It works fine if I actually write the path to the machine and the folder, no problems no password. But if I want to list it then I have the same problem as everyone else. Also now the only machine I could access the shares from asks for SSH-login instead in nautilus... As you can see from my smb.conf I have tried alot of the things in this thread and it won't work. mawox@woxnet-nas:/etc/samba$ testparm -s Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384) Processing section "[printers]" Processing section "[print$]" Loaded services file OK. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 912625] Re: #!/usr/bin/env python breaks Python-based Ubuntu packages in the presence of virtualenvs, local installations
Marc: Fair enough. I guess the same kind of hijacking I mentioned could be accomplished in a lot of ways, including setting PYTHONPATH, so it's probably alright. Scott: The Debian policy reads: > Maintainers should not override the Debian Python interpreter using /usr/bin/env The word "should" is somewhat ambiguous in its level of severity, but I would read that as a "strongly discouraged" even if not a hard and fast "you must not do this". I would say there ought to be a really good reason if a system-installed executable is figuring out which interpreter to use at runtime. > You shouldn't put a non-system python in your system's python path. I assume you mean on your shell's PATH as the PYTHONPATH is something different -- at any rate, this is an unworkable demand for just about anyone who does anything resembling serious Python development. In addition to virtualenv being a ubiquitous tool for deployment management and environment isolation, several specialized Python distributions exist (both commercial and FLOSS) such as Enthought Python Distribution, ActivePython, FEMhub, Sage, etc. and isolate themselves from the system Python (as they should). Placing the bin directory of one of these distributions, or of a virtualenv, on your shell's PATH (i.e. adding it to your PATH in ~/.bash_profile) should not cause random system-installed executable scripts to start breaking, and I would very much consider it a bug in the package that installed the executable if this does happen. Furthermore, most of the Python scripts in /usr/bin on my machine follow the "hard code which interpreter you want" convention, and as Barry pointed out above, even the native Python packaging system, broken as it is in many ways, performs this kind of munging. I would consider this a strong case for not using #!/usr/bin/env python. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-applets in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/912625 Title: #!/usr/bin/env python breaks Python-based Ubuntu packages in the presence of virtualenvs, local installations Status in HP Linux Imaging and Printing: New Status in “c2esp” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “foo2zjs” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “gconf2” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “gnome-applets” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “hplip” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “mercurial” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “pidgin” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “pitivi” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “pyppd” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “mercurial” package in Debian: Unknown Bug description: Currently (as of 11.04, and I suspect in 11.10), several packages I've discovered will potentially break if you have a non-system Python executable on your PATH, e.g. using virtualenv or a custom-built Python. As per the Debian Python Policy (I can't find a similarly thorough document for Ubuntu), > The preferred specification for the Python interpreter is /usr/bin/python or /usr/bin/pythonX.Y. This ensures that a Debian installation of python is used and all dependencies on additional python modules are met. > Maintainers should not override the Debian Python interpreter using /usr/bin/env python or /usr/bin/env pythonX.Y. This is not advisable as it bypasses Debian's dependency checking and makes the package vulnerable to incomplete local installations of python. I think this is reasonable, and also supported by the majority of the Python scripts in my /usr/bin directory. This also has potential security implications, i.e. someone with only user-level access could override the system Python in a user's ~/.bash_profile and install a malicious version of certain package dependencies. dwf@barricade:~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.04 Release: 11.04 dwf@barricade:~$ grep '#!/usr/bin/env python' /usr/bin/* /usr/sbin/* |cut -d ':' -f 1|xargs dpkg -S gconf2: /usr/bin/gsettings-schema-convert mercurial-common: /usr/bin/hg-ssh hplip: /usr/bin/hp-align hplip: /usr/bin/hp-check hplip: /usr/bin/hp-clean hplip: /usr/bin/hp-colorcal hplip: /usr/bin/hp-firmware hplip: /usr/bin/hp-hpdio hplip: /usr/bin/hp-info hplip: /usr/bin/hp-levels hplip: /usr/bin/hp-makeuri hplip: /usr/bin/hp-pkservice hplip: /usr/bin/hp-plugin hplip: /usr/bin/hp-probe hplip: /usr/bin/hp-query hplip: /usr/bin/hp-scan hplip: /usr/bin/hp-setup hplip: /usr/bin/hp-testpage hplip: /usr/bin/hp-timedate hplip: /usr/bin/hp-unload gnome-applets: /usr/bin/invest-chart pitivi: /usr/bin/pitivi libpurple-bin: /usr/bin/purple-remote libpurple-bin: /usr/bin/purple-url-handler hplip: /usr/sbin/hpssd dwf@barricade:~$ grep '#!/usr/bin/env python' /usr/bin/* /usr/sbin/* |cut -d ':' -f 1 |xargs dpkg -S |cut -d':' -f 1|xargs apt-cache policy gconf2: Installed: 2.32.2-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 2.32.2-0ubuntu2 Version table:

When you install the packages that are currently still in Proposed, anyway. But not the item "Password:". This happens even in languages for which LightDM has been fully translated (100 %). In my case: Dutch. So the item "Password:" is somehow untranslatable now. At the request of Sebastien Bacher, I've forked this bug from this previous bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/868613 I should add that I'm using the LightDM packages from Proposed, which fix most of the translation issues, but not this final one. According to Robert Ancell in the previous bug report, lightdm-gtk- greeter should pull it's translation of the item "Password:" from PAM: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/868613/comments/12 But it doesn't do so: PAM has been fully translated into Dutch as well, but still no translation for the item "Password:" in lightdm- gtk-greeter. But when I click on the battery icon, it says that I have 4 hours of battery time remaining. My battery is a six cell battery with 97.1% charge capacity. I have no idea why it's saying that it's almost out of power. That doesn't come up if I turn on my laptop after I unplug it. Does anyone know why it's coming up or how I can disable it? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 890441] Re: nautilus memory leak
I'm in Gnome Shell. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890441 Title: nautilus memory leak Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: There are other bug reports with this description, but they are either 3-4 years old, or closed, or invalid, or expired. I'm not doing anything exotic, but after about an hour or two of using my system (not even copying or moving files, or thumbnailing, or...) memory usage in nautilus goes up to 1.4G or so. When I kill this task, re-launch nautilus, it sits happily on just a few hundred meg... and then begins to grow again. It also takes a LONG time to start up, and the system is very unresponsive meanwhile... like 20 seconds. This may be a useful clue? I tried to do a valgrind report, but it makes nautilus so slow as to be unusable -- like 2 minutes to open a folder on the desktop... so I couldn't exactly "use it normally" to get a good log. Nonetheless, here's a log I did capture. I trust that the data captured by ubuntu-bug will have my library versions, cpu type, RAM info, etc. Please let me know what else I can provide. Thanks! Manuel, This bug was already fixed; on an up to date machine running 11.10 you wouldn't be getting hit by it. Not sure if 11.04 is affected. When all the 'skipped task list' window(s) are closed, the application icon should then leave the Launcher. - If a application has both main window(s) and 'skipped task list' window(s) open, and one of these window is in focus, clicking on the Launcher icon will trigger a spread of *all* the windows, irrespective of the window's type To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/784804/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 912625] Re: #!/usr/bin/env python breaks Python-based Ubuntu packages in the presence of virtualenvs, local installations
I'm not convinced this is a bug at all. Debian Python policy (which Ubuntu uses) gives a preference to /usr/bin/python*, but says /usr/bin/env python is allowable. You shouldn't put a non-system python in your system's python path. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-applets in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/912625 Title: #!/usr/bin/env python breaks Python-based Ubuntu packages in the presence of virtualenvs, local installations Status in HP Linux Imaging and Printing: New Status in “c2esp” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “foo2zjs” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “gconf2” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “gnome-applets” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “hplip” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “mercurial” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “pidgin” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “pitivi” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “pyppd” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Currently (as of 11.04, and I suspect in 11.10), several packages I've discovered will potentially break if you have a non-system Python executable on your PATH, e.g. using virtualenv or a custom-built Python. This also has potential security implications, i.e. someone with only user-level access could override the system Python in a user's ~/.bash_profile and install a malicious version of certain package dependencies. dwf@barricade:~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.04 Release: 11.04 dwf@barricade:~$ grep '#!/usr/bin/env python' /usr/bin/* /usr/sbin/* |cut -d ':' -f 1|xargs dpkg -S gconf2: /usr/bin/gsettings-schema-convert mercurial-common: /usr/bin/hg-ssh hplip: /usr/bin/hp-align hplip: /usr/bin/hp-check hplip: /usr/bin/hp-clean hplip: /usr/bin/hp-colorcal hplip: /usr/bin/hp-firmware hplip: /usr/bin/hp-hpdio hplip: /usr/bin/hp-info hplip: /usr/bin/hp-levels hplip: /usr/bin/hp-makeuri hplip: /usr/bin/hp-pkservice hplip: /usr/bin/hp-plugin hplip: /usr/bin/hp-probe hplip: /usr/bin/hp-query hplip: /usr/bin/hp-scan hplip: /usr/bin/hp-setup hplip: /usr/bin/hp-testpage hplip: /usr/bin/hp-timedate hplip: /usr/bin/hp-unload gnome-applets: /usr/bin/invest-chart pitivi: /usr/bin/pitivi libpurple-bin: /usr/bin/purple-remote libpurple-bin: /usr/bin/purple-url-handler hplip: /usr/sbin/hpssd dwf@barricade:~$ grep '#!/usr/bin/env python' /usr/bin/* /usr/sbin/* |cut -d ':' -f 1 |xargs dpkg -S |cut -d':' -f 1|xargs apt-cache policy gconf2: Installed: 2.32.2-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 2.32.2-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 2.32.2-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status hplip: Installed: 3.11.1-2ubuntu2 Candidate: 3.11.1-2ubuntu2 Version table: *** 3.11.1-2ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status gnome-applets: Installed: 2.32.1.1-0ubuntu5 Candidate: 2.32.1.1-0ubuntu5 Version table: *** 2.32.1.1-0ubuntu5 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status libpurple-bin: Installed: 1:2.7.11-1ubuntu2.1 Candidate: 1:2.7.11-1ubuntu2.1 Version table: *** 1:2.7.11-1ubuntu2.1 0 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-security/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:2.7.11-1ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages pitivi: Installed: 0.13.5-1ubuntu4 Candidate: 0.13.5-1ubuntu4 Version table: *** 0.13.5-1ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status mercurial-common: Installed: 1.7.5-1ubuntu1 Candidate: 1.7.5-1ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1.7.5-1ubuntu1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/universe i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/912625/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://

Bug 696020 appears to have exacerbated this problem in 10 (see bug 702064). This should never happen. This bug was triggered by bug 107376 in a previous version of Launchpad, suggesting that the general cause is JavaScript focusing a text field, and then using CSS to hide that field. It seems unrelated to the document.designMode DOM property, because the page did not become editable. Steps to reproduce: 1. In Firefox or Epiphany, open any bug page, such as this one. 2. Wait for the Subscribers box to finish loading. 3. Press the Up or Down arrow keys. What should happen: The page scrolls. What actually happens: A visible caret moves through the page.
