[Desktop-packages] [Bug 885324] Re: Completely replace lcms1 by lcms2 in Ubuntu
pitti, they talk about only 5-10 % performance loss in Poppler, but for getting a much less crashing, more reliable, and maintained CM library, I would accept this performance loss. So I think I should add Otani- san's patch for further testing to Precise's package of Poppler. Otani-san, thank you very much for the patch. I will try it out on Ubuntu's Poppler. 5-10 % performance loss is not much for the gain of stability and reliability. It should get applied. Albert, I also highly recommend to apply this patch upstream, as using a more stable, maintained library is much more important then having 5-10 % better performance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/885324 Title: Completely replace lcms1 by lcms2 in Ubuntu Status in Enblend: Fix Committed Status in Inkscape: A Vector Drawing Tool: New Status in “cups” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in “dcraw” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “digikam” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “enblend” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “enblend-enfuse” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “f-spot” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “geeqie” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “gimp” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “imagemagick” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in “inkscape” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “kdegraphics” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “lcms” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “libkdcraw” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “libmng” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “libraw” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “openjdk-6” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “poppler” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “python-imaging” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “rawstudio” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “shotwell” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “ufraw” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “xsane” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Many packages in Ubuntu use the liblcms1 library (source package lcms). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 919027] Re: headphone which works windows platform does not work in Linux partition having Ubuntu
Hi there, Thanks for your bug report. You're running Ubuntu 10.10. It may be prudent to upgrade to 11.04, or preferably 11.10, as it's possible that you're problem is fixed in a newer version of Ubuntu. Also, 10.10 will no longer be supported starting in April, so there's another reason to upgrade! In any case I'm re-targeting this to alsa-driver for you, as that's the correct package for a problem like this. If upgrading doesn't solve your problem, or isn't an option, hopefully someone more familiar with debugging sound problems can help you out. ** Package changed: software-center (Ubuntu) => alsa-driver (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919027 Title: headphone which works windows platform does not work in Linux partition having Ubuntu Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Hi All! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 908508]
We're now using a PPC macroassembler in TenFourFox (in our Google Code, this is issue 96). The reason I haven't pushed this upstream yet is because one of our contributors has an idea about reworking branching for better performance, and we are also implementing a software square root for PPCs that only have reciprocal square root estimates. Once this work is done, I'll put it up for review. That isn't going to be all you would need to do for OpenBSD/powerpc, however. We also have some integration pieces to connect it to YarrJIT which are specific to the OS X ABI (I'm not going to bother with those since Mozilla doesn't support OS X PPC anymore) and in fact our prologue, epilogue and certain modifications to the methodjit assume OS X ABI and OpenBSD (IIRC) is SysV. Some Linux users who were looking at importing our nanojit are running into the same problem. Feel free to contact me privately if you want more information on this. The long and short of it is, you should wait for the macroassembler bug to be posted by me (ETA a month or two), and then make whatever changes need to be made to YarrJIT. For now you're stuck with the YARR interpreter, sucky as it is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/908508 Title: Firefox/Thunderbird 10 FTBFS on powerpc in js/src/yarr/pcre Status in The Mozilla Firefox Browser: In Progress Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Debian has the fix, so I'll add it to the branch and it should work with the next upload. (In reply to Cameron Kaiser from comment #10) > I'm good with that. We're using YARR JIT in PowerPC now anyway. Created attachment 589953 Use YARR interpreter instead of PCRE on platforms where YARR JIT is not supported (m-c patch) Here's the patch updated to m-c, with the following changes wrt previous patch against beta : - return true instead of #error'ing in syntaxCheck. (no idea what to do for that) - assembler/jit added to VPATH in js/src/Makefile.in (for !yarr_jit) - ExecutableAllocator.cpp/ExecutableAllocatorPosix.cpp added to CPPSRCS (for !yarr_jit) This allows me to build m-c on sparc64. I'm now trying to build on ppc to see if it actually runs, but it seems bug #703534 is back, as of now i'm getting again the #error about missing cacheFlush (which for now i'll define as empty..). The patch we're working on aims to replace PCRE interpreter by YARR interpreter.. if i get it right, we wouldn't use the PCRE parser anymore, so there would be no mismatch ? When in Ubuntu 10.04 ( on version 2.30.3) sending a file from Empathy version 2.30.3 to 3.2.0.1 it says in 3.2.0.1 "Incoming file transfer from User. User is sending a file Do you want to accept it?" When clicking accept, in 3.2.0.1, the file transfers 100%, so file transfer is supported from the older version to the newer version, but not from the newer version. User is not sure how to get it to work from 3.2.0.1 to 2.30.3 Summary: File transfer From version 2.30.3 TO 3.2.0.1 = Operational, Successful transfers File transfer From version 3.2.0.1 = not available, greyed out file transfer button, fail. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 844081] Re: Unity Greeter - Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected
I'm thinking of it like this: the background picture in 12.04 is a personal touch in the same sense as your name or your profile picture. It is part of your public profile, and it's a way for the OS to say “this belongs to Bob.” (It works like this in lots of popular web services, for what it's worth. Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr spring to mind). That IS a change in approach from 11.10, where the background was visible by circumstance but not necessarily on purpose. They're different approaches, and that's pretty well it. Ubuntu's backgrounds are not like other desktop operating systems, but neither is Ubuntu. The feature makes sense in its own right, and it's quite clear - from the first time someone logs in - that it is happening. I, for one, don't see a problem there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/844081 Title: Unity Greeter - Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected Status in D-Bus interfaces for querying and manipulating user account information: Confirmed Status in Ayatana Design: Fix Released Status in Light Display Manager: Fix Released Status in Unity Greeter: Fix Released Status in “accountsservice” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “unity-greeter” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected. e.g. the background the user has selected on their desktop should be displayed in the greeter. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 844081] Re: Unity Greeter - Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected
@Afzal, comment #36: Mark Shuttleworth is not the CEO of Canonical ;-) And why whould we complicate our life? Simply don't pick an innapropiate wallpaper, go back to the roots, no need to add more settings... I don't quite understand why some users are always complaining about features added or removed, because they can always change the defaults and, for example, install another greeter or display manager. Sorry, but commenting in a closed bug report is not that helpful. Discuss this in Ayatana mailing list and don't spam bug subscribers. In any case, I consider this feature a nice touch, and it is just days old, let it be and maybe you'll discover that you like it ;-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/844081 Title: Unity Greeter - Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected Status in D-Bus interfaces for querying and manipulating user account information: Confirmed Status in Ayatana Design: Fix Released Status in Light Display Manager: Fix Released Status in Unity Greeter: Fix Released Status in “accountsservice” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “unity-greeter” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected. e.g. the background the user has selected on their desktop should be displayed in the greeter. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 844081] Re: Unity Greeter - Background of the Unity Greeter should reflect the background chosen by the user that is currently selected
Ok, maybe my last message was the wrong tone but consider this scenario: Say I'm a converted christian and my mom's a muslim and she doesn't know about my conversion. I have a portrait of Jesus as my wallpaper. Oh and I only log into that computer when my mom isn't around. If she sees it, she might flip out over possibilities of conversion and if this feature didn't exist, I'd be free to set my wallpaper to anything. There could be a thousand other scenarios, what if the power went down right after I checked to see how some half-nude wallpaper would look on the desktop? My conservative mom would get very angry...especially if she's paranoid wnough to actually check my wallpaper every time she logs in. All of this isn't a problem for me and as you (Mark) said, I could just write a patch for this but I'm just appalled that a CEO of a company like Canonical has a problem with giving users a very trivial (to implement) option when they are asking for it.
> Consider this. They choose their login identity, at which point we show > their desktop. That persists for as long as it takes them to type their > password. Then we show their desktop. > > By definition, your wallpaper is exactly as public as your face. So > think carefully what you tattoo on your face ;-) Excuse me, but... Are you serious? Your wallpaper today is only "public" in as much as people can look over your shoulder when you are logged in and working on your computer, but so is *anything* you are working with, and I haven't yet seen anyone use that as an argument to make e.g. your bookmarks and personal files accessible and highly visible to other users on the system. So why should the wallpaper be any different? Why should the wallpaper, exactly, be accessible to every other user of the system, whether you trust them or not? Shouldn't it be the user's own choice whether they want to share their private data with everyone else having an account on that computer? I think the "you just shouldn't choose a wallpaper you don't want your parents/wife/kids/roomie to see" argument rings unpleasantly of Apple's "We know best how you should use your computer" attitude. Yes, I know, you can just change permissions on the file - but you have to be most computer savvy than most to know that such a setting would carry over to the wallpaper (How do I, as a casual user, know it doesn't just make a copy and changes the permissions when I set an image as the wallpaper?). But really, it should be a fundamental pillar of the UI design that the user alone, no one else, decides who they'll share their personal data with. The last good build of Thunderbird on Lucid x86_64 was 12.0~a1~hg20120103r9103.83671. The first build confirmed with this failure is 12.0~a1~hg20120118r9213.84699. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 918936] [NEW] Album art not found for many albums
Public bug reported: I have noticed that Rhythmbox when compared to Banshee is far worse at fetching the cover art. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 918868] [NEW] Problem with progress bar when copying from an external device to another slower
You have been subscribed to a public bug: During the copy from an external device to another slower, when the progress bar reaches 100%, the window doesn't close and the copy continue, I suppose. I think that the bar follows the progress of the reading from the faster drive. Indeed, when the bar reaches 100%, the source unit stop working while the target unit continues working. I found a report similar to this bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fl-cow/+bug/599755), but that affects the package fl-cow that isn't installed on my pc. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 827414] Re: gedit fails to start on first try, but does on the second
Thanks for all your comments. I can see how this is unfuriating. I'm using today's trunk on Precise, and I'm not seeing this problem, but perhaps I'm not doing the correct thing. I will investigate more. We added the fix mentioned above (see bug 873027) on 12 Oct, but that was too late for Oneiric. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/827414 Title: gedit fails to start on first try, but does on the second Status in Unity: Fix Released Status in Unity 2D: Confirmed Status in Unity Applications Lens: Fix Released Status in Unity Files Lens: Fix Released Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “unity-lens-applications” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “unity-lens-files” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “gedit” source package in Oneiric: Invalid Status in “unity” source package in Oneiric: Invalid Status in “unity-lens-applications” source package in Oneiric: Fix Released Status in “unity-lens-files” source package in Oneiric: Fix Released Bug description: The gedit window fails to appear when I start gedit on my first try.
