[Desktop-packages] [Bug 930555] Re: Launcher reveal sensitivity can not be set to a high enough level
** Description changed: Background: - Now that the launcher dodge feature has been removed and the launcher default set to never hide the launcher will overlay full screen applications. Most new and experienced users will want to change the behaviour to always hide when they discover this. On the same tab in gnome-control-center (Appearance -- Behaviour) they will see the slider setting for reveal sensitivity. It would be expected that the user would try changing this to find the setting that works best for them. Expected behaviour: - Setting the slider from extreme left to right should vary the sensitivity from almost dead to a hair trigger. This might be considered reasonable since some users will want the launcher to stay hidden at all costs when they don't want it, and others will want it to show up as soon as the pointer touches the left edge of the screen. + Setting the slider from extreme left to right should vary the sensitivity from almost dead to a hair trigger. This might be considered reasonable since some users will want the launcher to stay hidden at all costs when they don't want it, and others will want it to show up as soon as the pointer touches the left edge of the screen. An example of someone who does not want the launcher to reveal easily would be someone editing photographs. They may spend a lot of time working on the left edge of a photograph or have a tool bar on the left, and may want the sensitivity set very low so that the launcher does not appear when it's not wanted. An example of someone who wants the launcher to appear very easily would be a person using a netbook with a touchpad. They may want the launcher to appear as soon as they move the pointer to the left, minimising the effort required to switch to or launch other applications. Actual behaviour: - Currently setting the slider fully to the left causes the launcher to not appear at all. Even if the mouse is moved rapidly and for some distance across the table the launcher does not reveal. This is not too objectionable, since some users may actaully want to disable the launcher except for keyboard controls. + Currently setting the slider fully to the left causes the launcher to not appear at all. Moving the slider even further to the right however does not appear to - increase the sensivity by any appreciable degree. Even putting the + increase the sensitivity by any appreciable degree. Even putting the slider on the far right position requires a movement of the mouse (or touchpad) of 10mm or very close to this amount. Suggested improvement to the reveal sensitivity: - - Change the degree of maximum sensitivity so that the launcher can be made to appear very easily when the pointer is moved to the left edge of the screen. The default behavour of the launcher reveal when the dodge feature was enabled was almost ideal in as much as the launcher hardly ever showed up when it was not needed, and yet it appeared very quickly when the pointer was moved to the left edge of the screen. This made using the Launcher on a netbook with only a touchpad very easy and a pleasant experience. With the current maximum setting there is a noticable delay when trying to get to the launcher to reveal itself. - + Change the degree of maximum sensitivity so that the launcher can be made to appear very easily when the pointer is moved to the left edge of the screen. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 929139] Re: Cannot restore backup from NAS using Deja Dup
Hi Gary, My experience is to long ago to suggest now a more specific program. Except tar, I remember dump / restore, cp, dd and cpio. Regards, Wouter -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to deja-dup in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/929139 Title: Cannot restore backup from NAS using Deja Dup Status in “deja-dup” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ISSUE ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ I successfully backed my entire machine (/) up to an external NAS drive (Western Digital 500GB MyBook). However, when I came to test the restore I keep getting the same message: Restore Failed: Connection failed, please check your password: Failed to mount Windows Share. This seems strange since I was able to write the backup to the NAS drive. I backed up over wifi and I am trying to restore via wifi. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ STEPS ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ In the settings of Deja Dup, in the 'Storage' section, I have the following: Backup location: Windows Share Server: my_server_network_name Folder: my_backup_folder Username: my_username Domain: WORKGROUP I have triple checked these entries for schoolboy errors like typos and all is correct. One thing I did note is that I am not asked for the password to accompany the username. So, I select the 'Restore' option from the 'Overview' section and a small 'Restore' dialog appears. The details here are exactly as I entered them. I also make sure at this point that the NAS share is *not* mounted. I then click 'Forward'. At this point the share is mounted - I can see it in the file explorer - it also correctly identifies the one and only backup made in the 'Date' drop down list box. I click 'Forward' again. In the 'Restore to where?' section I leave all at the defaults ('Restore to original file locations') and click 'Forward'. The 'Summary' screen shows. I then click 'Restore'. At this point I get a 'Preparing' progress bar. Expanding the details section shows nothing. My screen then goes black an I am asked to enter my administrator password ince Deja Dup will be modifying my system. I do this and then I get the error as mentioned: Restore Failed: Connection failed, please check your password: Failed to mount Windows Share - the share is already mounted at this point though so I am totally confused. I have tried specifying the NAS by network name and IP and manually mounting it and it results in the same error message each time. I was expecting it to restore the backup I just took. I will admit that the wording of the error message would indicate an error on my part but since the NAS share is mounted at the point I indicated earlier it seems somewhat misleading. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ PACKAGE DETAILS ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ deja-dup: Installed: 20.1-0ubuntu0.2 Candidate: 20.1-0ubuntu0.2 Version table: *** 20.1-0ubuntu0.2 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 20.0-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ SYSINFO ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ System information report, generated by Sysinfo: 08/02/2012 21:29:38 http://sourceforge.net/projects/gsysinfo SYSTEM INFORMATION Running Ubuntu Linux, the Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) release. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 930599] [NEW] There is no regional formats for italian language in the Language selector
Public bug reported: Currently I'm still using Ubuntu 10.04 and here I can choose between different regional formats for my language: Italian (Italy) and Italian (Switzerland). If I try to set the regional formats in Ubuntu 12.04, I can't choose because I have only one choice: Italian. And the regional formats are not correct for me (for example Euro instead of Swiss Franc). I have attached two screen-shots to show you what I mean. This impacts the rest of the computing experience as the mouse movements become jagged and the whole UI is less responsive than normal. A quick check using System Monitor shows that when the New Message box is open, whatever is running consumes more that a full core on an Intel i5 processor (see attached screenshot). Steps to reproduce: 1. Start the system monitor to keep an eye on performance, 2. Click the envelope in the panel and select Broadcast / Messages to open Gwibber, 3. Click on the New Message button, 4. The New Message entry box opens, 5. Start typing in the box. Expected behaviour: The new message box should allow the user to enter a message without any negative performance impact. Actual behaviour: When the new message box is open, CPU usage shoots up and stays very high irrespective of whether the user enters any data in the box. As a result, data entry is visibly jagged and so are mouse movements and anything else related to using the machine. Instead of Documents, I would prefer the tab to say ~/Documents/ or /home/lukescharf/Documents/ or ...arf/Documents/ As a long-time Unix user who is trying to use Unity and trying to use Nautilus for serious file-management for the first time (I used to always use bash), the tabs just don't look like they have anything to do with the filesystem if they don't have some slashes in them. I understand that users who don't have years of shell experience under their belts probably prefer existing tab-title format. Having this be an option buried in the Nautilus preferences seems like a good way to split the difference. I really do like the way nautilus browses with the horizontal stack of directory-buttons. Despite its lack of slashes, it looks like a filesystem to me, and it looks like it should do pretty well in usability trials. But I can't figure out a way to make that into a tab-title. If anyone does figure out a way to do this, it would be the perfect way to address the issue that I'm thinking about. And maybe I'll learn to look for the existing tabs-titles over time. This is a low priority issue, even on the wishlist, but I still thought it was worth mentioning. It often takes 5 minutes just to load google. What is strange is that my internet comes in bursts, and when the page finally does load, it does so quickly. Then it stops again and is slow. I do not think that the router is a problem because my laptop, as well as some other computers all connect just fine with fast speeds. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 848340] Re: Brasero can't select DVD drive to burn image
It works for me. Now the combo box for selecting the destination disk is filled, not empty. Writing the alpha-2 image to a DVD-R works. Ok, after all is well and finished brasero process stays around, but this is another bug I suppose. Using ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric (i386) and brasero - 3.2.0-0ubuntu1.1 from oneiric-proposed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/848340 Title: Brasero can't select DVD drive to burn image Status in A disc burning application for gnome 2: Fix Released Status in “brasero” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “brasero” source package in Oneiric: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] When trying to burn an image using brasero (or selecting the drive to write to using libbrasero from any application using it) doesn't allow to select the drive (the drive appears on the list, but it can't be selected), thus making writing a DVD/CD impossible, which is a major regression from the previous releases. [Development fix] The fix has been committed upstream at GNOME, see the commit [1] in GNOME git imported in launchpad as revision 3422 of the brasero master branch [2] [Stable fix] Applying the changes from the commit mentioned above to the 3.2.0 version retrieved with apt-get source from oneiric fixes the problem. [Test case] Right-click an ISO file and select Open with Brasero Disc Burner, with a Blank Disc in you CD/DVD+-RW drive, and try to select the drive to write the ISO file to. Adwaita looks lovely in Gnome Fallback (aka Gnome Classic or gnome-panel) but Ambiance Radiance do not blend right.
