  try to connect again by clicking on my wireless network through the
  panel applet. After upgrading to Oneiric, if I hit cancel, network-

  In our configuration, nearly all users are granted access to the
  system via pam. The User Accounts dialog in Settings shows only a
  single user which was created at install time...and I'm not sure where
  from, because we preseed "d-i passwd/make-user boolean false" to try
  and inhibit the initial user account.

  We control access with pam_krb5 in common-auth, and pam_access in
  common-account, and we want all users passed by that method to be able
  to log in (and pam_access is using netgroups to decide which users
  should be permitted).

  So, in this world, I have one account known to the Accounts Manager,
  and it's the only one which lightdm will let me use: I get no "other
  user" dialog of any kind. This is a serious bug.

  We have the standard unity-greeter.conf and access.conf in
  /etc/lightdm (though the latter is supposedly unused). Our
  lightdm.conf contains this:

I have no objections against packaging gcr, if it does not conflict with
existing packages.

gnome-keyring is a very sensitive piece in the stack, and 3.4 got a lot
of code an structural changes, so I'm very hesitant to upgrade it at
this point. It's used by a lot of programs, not just empathy but also
nm-applet, ubuntuone, launchpadlib, etc. So far it was not necessary to
update the packages, so we rather kept the known-good one.

Is it realistically possible to patch gnome-shell to run with libgnome-
keyring 3.2?

  I've noticed the shutdown and reboot in oneiric is slower than in
  natty. This is reproducible on different machines with fresh
  installations.

  Disabling plymouth and vt.handoff=7 I can see that some processes are not 
closed:
  * Asking all remaining processes to terminate... [OK]
  * Killing all remaining processes... [fail]

  Killing network-manager at runlevel6, after the dbus shutdown signal,
  makes the shutdown and restart really faster (I'd say 5/10sec on low
  end machines like netbooks)

Got this crash after mounting Galaxy Nexus and trying to access it in
Nautilus. I didn't install any scripts to make it mount, so I'm guessing
that 12.04 has native MTP support but it's just buggy? My GNex was never
even able to mount in Oneiric.

It always happens when I start one gedit instance from nautilus and
another gedit instance from  a  gnome-terminal window

It doesn't happen when both are started from the gnome-terminal
It doesn't happen when both are started from nautilus
it doesn't happen when one is started from the launcher and another from 
terminal
it doesn't happen when one is started from the launcher and another from 
nautilus

  dual view mode needs a phase control

Bug description:
  when using evince in dual-view (two pages visible) is there any way to
  change the phase?  When viewing sheet music for example, if the PDF
  begins with page one, the first view will show only page one, then
  pages two and three, but if the music itself is spread across pages
  one and two, without a phase-adjust we cannot view those two pages
  together.  The same issue will apply to other two-page spread
  documents where the pages in the PDF are out of phase with the printed
  edition (eg if the front matter is not all included)

  if this isn't already included, can this feature be added?  and if it
  is included, can the option be put somewhere on the menus so it is
  apparent?

Start gedit in the ru_RU.utf8 locale (this is important! in this
locale %p yields an empty string, in the C or en_US.utf8 locale it
doesn't and thus the bug is not reproducible).

Choose Правка > Вставить дату и время... (Edit > Insert Date and
Time...) from the menu.

Choose the Использовать другой формат (Use custom format) option.

Try to enter %p in the provided box.

Once you do so, gedit starts consuming 100% CPU and compiz dims its
window. At this point, you don't have any other option except to kill
gedit.

Instead, gedit should process the provided date format and yield
nothing.

I was not able to open lightdm.log file when I tried it with text 
editor. I tried through the terminal also using vi editor but I couldn't 
open the log file. Even I tried to attach it with the mail also but it 
was not permitted to do attachment.

  Shotwell flooding system with error

Bug description:
  Shotwell is loading un-expectantly and causing an error ¨ SHOTWELL, 
/home/{username} %U does not exist.
  This happens for no apparent reason. Shotwell is not included in startup apps 
and is not being loaded. the error is created multiple times and locks CPU time 
for some minutes. Killing off all processes does stop the behavior.
  I have tried to remove Shotwell and re-install it with a similar result. 
Shotwell now only runs the error after it has been started. 
  Memory usage is very large as is CPU usage on a single core at 98% avg.

I've uploaded a package to ppa but I don't know how long it would take and if 
it is okay it was unsigned.
Here is a step-by-step instruction for 11.10. Make sure you are in sudoers list

  I am using both Ubuntu and Windows on my laptop. I opened an ntfs file
  system (part of my harddrive that is allocated for Windows) using
  nautilus and as usual an icon was created for that file system on the
  launcher. When I ejected the drive/file system, the icon remained on
  the launcher. When I right-click on the icon, it displays 3 menu items
  - Lock to launcher, open and format.

  I think what must happen is when I eject the file system, the icon
  that is present on the launcher must vanish.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the 
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is 
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed 
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug 
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more

Thanks Axel for finding it!

But I want to see that nice OSD to know how high the volume is so my
search continued but then I found this neat shellscript:

So I changed your ~/.xbindkeysrc so that it posts the volume with the nice 
notify-OSD also.

It's an ugly hack but hey, it works =)

Hello userdce , and thanks for your report and your suggestion. It was
decided in design and user testing that launching an application from
Software Center itself is not ideal. Instead, the conventional way to
launch an application (the Unity launcher) should be used, and the
following specification is currently being implemented in Precise to
help users discover how to launch an application that they have
installed.

  Please see the attached screenshots. Adwaita looks lovely in Gnome
  Fallback (aka Gnome Classic or gnome-panel) but Ambiance & Radiance do
  not blend right. It's probably worth looking at Adwaita's code to see
  what they do exactly to support Gnome Shell & Fallback. Perhaps light-
  themes uses too many hacks that don't all work well with the Gnome 3
  switch.

  This is a high priority as a decent amount of upgraders who will try
  to keep using Gnome Fallback even though little developer time is
  spent to keep it working. And since there is not an obvious way to
  change the theme in Gnome 3, they may not know that switching to
  Adwaita will improve the appearance, or know how to do that either.

  The icon coordinate values that are used for implementing the cool
  animation effect for the Unity launcher integration are not correct
  when an application installation is initiated in Software Center's
  list view. For this case, the coordinates being reported are 0,0 for
  icon_x and icon_y.

  Note that the correct coordinates *are* sent for the case where an
  installation is initiated in the details view. We simply need to send
  the correct values for both cases.

@Mikhail, to be honest, I've just removed the "ommiting.." text :)
All I did was removing the partition created with Paragon software, and 
creating it again using gparted.
Now it looks fine, and I think this is ok.

Basically I just downloaded a package direct from the Internet (not using apt), 
but I didn't think about Yor solution.
Anyway, I'll take a look at all that stuff..

The ".diff" files are the patches to the original files located in the source 
package.
First You download the source package of the progrm You need to be patched. 
Next, You just copy that "diff" file into directory with the program, and enter 
command for example: "patch -p0 < file.diff", where "-p0" tells You how much do 
you want the path to be stripped (the path is indirect and depends on where You 
have just copied the "diff" file (folders, subfolders etc..), so if the path 
is: Download/folder/program, then "p0" means no strip, "p1" will give You: 
folder/program etc..). In Mikhail's diff file there are "a/.." and "b/.." 
paths, so You need to use "p1" I think - that's what in my case was a good act. 
The "file.diff" is the patch-file.

I know Im not good at describing some things, especially in english, but
maybe You can understand something from that stuff :)

  themes uses too many hacks that don't all work well with the Gnome 3

  to keep using Gnome Fallback even though little developer time is
  spent to keep it working. And since there is not an obvious way to
  change the theme in Gnome 3, they may not know that switching to
  Adwaita will improve the appearance, or know how to do that either.

Set up an X VNC server per http://linuxreviews.org/howtos/xvnc/ and
connect to it with your favorite VNC client. Try and drag and drop from
a GTK2 application.

A [Regression Potential] section with a discussion of likelihood and
potential severity of regressions and how users could get inadvertently
affected.

Low; patch directly targets the problem and is already backported in
later releases.

Let's dispel the notion that my computer is overtaxed and this could be causing
the problem.
Free space on disk: 0.1 TByte That's 100 giga bytes. That's a lot of
available space.
Attached is a snap shot of system monitor. The long network peak indicates
where the crash file or core dump or whatnot was uploaded to launchpad. The
snap shot is quite typical. Two fast cpu cores. No big delays. A whole lot
of available RAM.

  I have 4 users defined.
  One of the users has the admin privileges (able to sudo) and the rest are 
regular users.
  When logging in from a regular user, I am able to switch to a different user.
  When logging in from the admin user, after clicking the "switch user", the 
screen goes black (as if in screen saver) and then when I move the mouse, the 
screen returns to a "lock screen" screen (where I need to put the password for 
the admin user). If I try then to press the "switch user" button, the same 
things happens.

  After entering the password, I see a pop up window on the desktop:
  "Failed to unlock: The name org.gnome.DisplayManager was not provided by any 
.service files"

  The only way to login as a different user is first log out as the
  admin, then login as a different user.

  I tried the following:
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
  sudo apt-get --reinstall install ubuntu-desktop

  but the problem persists.
  Please let me know what other data you require and I'll attach it.

Yes as I can:

- mkdir ~/Mount
- /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-fuse-daemon ~/Mount

And I then see my shares in that ~/Mount folder.  (I used ~/Mount in
case an update would bring back ~/.gvfs)

Also when browsing using nautilus, the location bar still shows smb://
(intended behaviour maybe?)

  In our configuration, nearly all users are granted access to the
  system via pam. The User Accounts dialog in Settings shows only a
  single user which was created at install time...and I'm not sure where
  from, because we preseed "d-i passwd/make-user boolean false" to try
  and inhibit the initial user account.

  We control access with pam_krb5 in common-auth, and pam_access in
  common-account, and we want all users passed by that method to be able
  to log in (and pam_access is using netgroups to decide which users
  should be permitted).

  So, in this world, I have one account known to the Accounts Manager,
  and it's the only one which lightdm will let me use: I get no "other
  user" dialog of any kind. This is a serious bug.

  We have the standard unity-greeter.conf and access.conf in
  /etc/lightdm (though the latter is supposedly unused). Our
  lightdm.conf contains this:

  The gedit window fails to appear when I start gedit on my first try.
  It does appear on my second try. This is true when starting from the
  launcher, opening a document from a folder, or opening a file using
  the terminal. I can see gedit did started the first time; the process
  is running.

  If I start gedit using --standalone it does work the first time. This
  implies that default behaviour is to start gedit in the background.
  The file is ignored when gedit starts in the background, so a second
  call is needed to load the document.
