[Desktop-packages] [Bug 996344] Re: Podcasts in double

2012-07-12 Thread aron.sakuragi
Not solved. However, I really think it concerns only podcast from France
Culture and France Inter, in my case. Have you tried to post a message
on the Ubuntu France forum? In case you have, tell me the url!

Title:
  Podcasts in double

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I use Rhythmbox to manage 15 podcasts.
Since about 3 month, on each start of Rhythmbox, a lot of already downloaded
episodes appear with an "empty" status.

  (See screenshot)

Double clicking on it mark them first as "waiting" then "downloaded"
(very quick) and the episode appears twice in the list.

I hoped "Precise Pangolin" to fix this but this is not the case.

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04
  Package: rhythmbox 2.96-0ubuntu4
  ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.37-generic 3.2.14

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 927515] Re: thunderbird uses excessive cpu power

2012-07-12 Thread David Henningsson
The strace log is a bit long to attach here, but under one minute of fetching
emails, it
 - calls gettimeofday about 200 000 times
 - trying to open different files in /usr/share/mime, 20 000 times
 - trying to open gedit.desktop in different directories, 1300 times

...is this really correct behaviour?

Well, I checked and it didn't seem to be working at all. I've prepped
the SRU but I'll upload the fix to Quantal next week and check it works
there first.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 870297] Re: Lightdm logins not being logged in wtmp

2012-07-12 Thread Robert Ancell
** Changed in: lightdm (Ubuntu)
Status: Fix Released => Fix Committed

** Changed in: lightdm
Status: Fix Released => Fix Committed

** Description changed:

- When logged into a graphical session, I get no acknowledgement from who,
- w or last that I am logged in:
+ Impact:
+ Systems using LightDM have no entries in the utmp record for logins, so tools
like 'w' and 'who' do not show LightDM sessions.

- $ who
- $ w
- 16:48:14 up 1 day, 1:08, 0 users, load average: 0.68, 0.83, 0.84
- USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT
+ Testcase:
+ 1. Start Ubuntu system
+ 2. Log into session
+ 3. Open gnome-terminal
+ 4. Run 'who' command
+ Expected result:
+ You should see TWO entries (the first is from LightDM, the second is from
gnome-terminal):
+ tty7 -MM-DD HH:MM
+ pts/0 -MM-DD HH:MM (:0)
+ Observed result:
+ You see only one entry:
+ pts/0 -MM-DD HH:MM (:0)

- last only reports tty logins, not graphical logins.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 927515] Re: thunderbird uses excessive cpu power

2012-07-12 Thread David Henningsson
Regression or not, it's still an annoying bug.

I'm attaching performance data from my older computer, where this is a
nuisance. In the two minutes I let Thunderbird run, it fetched less than
1000 emails - which means just a few emails per second (which is not
good IMO!).

The latest comment indicates that this would be eCryptfs related - for
the record, I'm also running eCryptfs. Seeing the top perf results, it
looks like they are crypto related, but I don't think this is the only
cause. The fact that it also seems to spend a significant amount of time
in pthread_mutex_lock/unlock also looks like a programming error to me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 997900] Re: Wireless is disabled by hardware switch

2012-07-12 Thread William Ranvaud
There are plenty of askubuntu similar issues. (e.g.
http://askubuntu.com/questions/139036/ubuntu-12-04-says-wireless-is-
disabled-by-hardware-switch) and launchpad answers too.

The wireless shuts down and won't turn on again after the switch in
turned on. Proposed solution is to run "rfkill unblock all" from
terminal.

I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 (Amd64) in my computer. I updated my
system today to ensure that i have the latest software. The problem is
that I get an error in nm-applet that says "Wireless is disabled by
hardware switch", this happened after I used the hardware switch to
turn my wi-fi off because i was going to share my smartphone's 3g
connection using the usb cable. After this, i turned my computer off,
and now that i want to use my wireless i can't, it doesn't matter how
many times i restart my computer, it doesn't work.

In the terminal, when I try to do an "sudo ifconfig wlan0 up", it
shows me an error that says:

SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not possible due to RF-kill

This must be some bug of my wireless card driver, but i don't know
  which package contains it.

Indeed, the shortcut does not work when set to Super+L by hand.

Additionally, the Ubuntu top-right corner menu does not show the updated
shortcut until restart.

This would also be familiar for users switching from a well-known OS.

  - Add Super-L keyboard shortcut to lock screen
  - Leave the existing Ctrl-Alt-L keyboard shortcut in place as an alternative

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1024117] Re: fails to play mp3s from a samba share using gio

Title:
fails to play mp3s from a samba share using gio

Status in “gstreamer0.10” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm running the following command to play an mp3 file over a samba
  share:

  gst-launch-0.10 -v playbin2
  uri="smb://lion/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy - Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3"

it starts to play, but after about 1 second the audio goes silent, but
the command doesn't finish. Playing the same file in rhythmbox does
the same thing and the progress indicator keeps moving, suggesting
  playing but is just silent.

If play the same file from the same server but via ssh or sftp, it
  plays fine:

  gst-launch-0.10 -v playbin2
  uri="ssh://lion/media/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy -
  Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3"

If I manually build a chain of sinks using giosrc directly, rather
than using playbin2, it plays ok:

  gst-launch-0.10 giosrc
  location="smb://lion/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy -
  Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3" ! flump3dec ! autoaudiosink

If I play a flac file from the same server (using playbin2 again), it
also plays fine (yes, you heard right, hehe!):

  gst-launch-0.10 playbin2 uri="smb://lion/music/Music/Admiral
Fallow/Boots Met My Face/Admiral Fallow - Boots Met My Face - 01 Dead
  Against Smoking.flac"

I've attached logs with GST_DEBUG=*:5 for all the above commands. They
all succeed except mp3 over smb.

  I'm using gstreamer0.10-plugins-base 0.10.36-1 on Precise.

This started out as bug #977866 reported against rhythmbox, but I've
found that it's a gstreamer (or gvfs?) problem, so am resubmitting
  here with a clearer report.

Word 2007 can open the .rtx directly.
It seems to be a valid extension/mimetype so LibO should advertise that it

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1024186] [NEW] Setting up fingerprint reader is clunky

2012-07-12 Thread Joonas Saarinen
Public bug reported:

There seems to be no easy way to set up a fingerprint reader (in this
case, aes2501). According to an older tutorial* there should be an
option in the User Accounts window to set it up, but something like that
was not present in my 12.04 installation.

Anyway, I ended up doing manually:
1) sudo apt-get install libfprint0 libpam-fprint
2) pam_fprint_enroll
3) sudo pam-auth-update

Not that hard actually, but as the drivers from the fprint project seem
to work quite well, having a straightforward graphical configuration
would be the icing on the cake.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1022943] Re: localization

2012-07-12 Thread Chow Loong Jin
** Description changed:

There's no Russian localization in 2.4.1-3ubuntu1~precise1...
  No changes in interface, though.
Must be easy to solve, I think.
Had to lock version 2.4.1-3ubuntu1~hyper1+precise with Synaptic, it's okay.
+
+ [IMPACT]
+ Users of non-English locales would see their Banshee interface in English
rather than localized to their locale.
+
+ This is a regression introduced in 2.4.1-3ubuntu1~precise1 due to the
+ introduction of the "X-Ubuntu-Use-Langpack: yes" flag in debian/control.
+
+ [TESTCASE]
+ 1. Switch to a non-English locale that was previously supported by Banshee,
e.g. German or Russian.
+ 2. Start Banshee
+ 3. Observe the language of the interface
+
+ [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
+ Unlikely. This change merely reintroduces the .mo files that were stripped by
pkgbinarymangler.

Bug description:
Since the description here is the only post that can be updated, it
seems the best place to keep a changing list of packages that need
examining. (The original description was brief, and about only one
  package.)

We've fixed all the packages that found in the apt logs uploaded in
the first round of breakage. Now I've tried to review all the other
apport hooks I could find in Quantal. Working from the archive's
Contents file, I got the list of packages that have files under
  /usr/share/apport/package-hooks . I skipped the packages already
fixed above, and those that were on my system, during the first round
of breakage, and had no problems. For the rest, I downloaded the
debs, extracted the apport hooks, and ran '2to3' on them. I've posted
patches for every package that broke under python3.

  Thanks - Edward Donovan

These packages didn't break during the apport upgrade that forced a
recompile, but they get warnings from the 2to3 tool:

    compiz-core
    eclipse-platform
    gnome-control-center-data
    gnome-settings-daemon
    grub-common
    nautilus-data
    unity-common
    apache2.2-common

Now we have a bug report for at least gnome-control-center, bug
1018537, which I've duped here. So these may need patching, too.

Hm...from a preliminary look, a number of those use the same code:

  if report.has_key("Stacktrace")

which generates an exception with python3. We're probably going to
  want to cha

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1011436] Re: Sound recorder can not play after recording and saving the first one

2012-07-12 Thread Ding Zhou
Thanks for the fix.

I upgraded gnome-media to 3.4.0-0ubuntu4 and had a test, now the second
record can play, but still has something wrong.

How to reproduce:

Round 1

* Open Sound Recorder, click "Record sound" button, say "This is the first
record", then click "Stop sound"
* Click "Play sound", you can hear "This is the first sound"

Round 2

* Without clicking save button, click "Record sound" again, it will prompt you
to save the sound, choose "Save As" to save it to "1.ogg"
* Now new record is started, say "This is the second record", then click "Stop
sound"
* Click "Play sound" again, but you still hear "This is the first found", not
the expected "This is the second record"

Round 3

* Click "Record sound" for the third time, after prompt save the second record
to "2.ogg"
* Record the sound "This is the third record", then click "Stop sound"
* Click "Play sound" and you will hear "This is the second record", not "This
is the third record"

So the play issue is fixed, but it will always play the last saved record
instead of the current record after the second time.

Please help to reproduce.

  4. Now press "Record" again, it will prompt you to save the previous record,
just save it.
  5. After saving the last record, it will start to record. Seconds later,
press "Stop" button to stop record.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 927515] Re: thunderbird uses excessive cpu power

2012-07-12 Thread Justin Warren
Some further info: My syslog was geting spammed with eCryptfs messages
as per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ecryptfs/+bug/911507, but only when
Thunderbird was in online mode.

The culprit was a zero length global-messages-db.sqlite-journal file
under .thunderbird. I'd copied my .thunderbird directory from my old
laptop (that wasn't using encrypted homedir) to the new laptop (which is
using encrypted homedir).

Moving the file out of the way stopped the eCryptfs spam, and dropped
CPU usage from about 70%+ to about 54%, which isn't melting the laptop.

Thunderbird has recreated the global-messages-db.sqlite-journal file,
and it now has non-zero length. I guess what it's doing now is more
normal.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 996770] Re: Lock screen is occasionally solid black except for mouse cursor after resuming from suspend

2012-07-12 Thread Paskal
This has happened to me as well on a Dell Precision T3400 desktop with
Ubuntu 12.04 and GNOME 3.4.1 all 64 bits. I am using twinview with dual-
monitor setup and an Nvidia card and drivers.

The bug has the same behavior as described above.

I noticed that it seems to only happen when I lock the system without
having any window open.

Title:
Lock screen is occasionally solid black except for mouse cursor after
  resuming from suspend

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have lately found that my screen will remain completely black except
for the mouse cursor when I try to log back into my locked session
after resuming my laptop from suspend. The cursor does change into a
text entry cursor when I move it over the general area where the
password entry box would be located, so I assume it's simply a display
  issue of some sort.

It's worth noting that this problem only occurs occasionally for me,
and only when I resume my laptop from suspend after i.e. closing its
lid for travel. If I let my laptop turn off and lock its screen on its
own after some time while plugged directly into a wall socket, the
problem does not occur then, no matter how many times it's allowed to
  do so.

I can still access a tty by hitting Ctrl+Alt+F1 when this occurs, at
which point my only workaround I've found so far has been to restart
the machine via the command line.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960.

A similar issue seems to have been asked by somebody else on AskUbuntu
  here: http://askubuntu.com/q/133720/18612

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1022322] Re: GNOME keyring often fails to unlock in XFCE

This bug affects me on several machines with fresh installs of xubuntu 12.04
and one that was upgraded from xubuntu 11.04.
Embarrassingly some of the machines were for other people.

GNOME keyring often fails to unlock in XFCE

Status in “gnome-keyring” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
GNOME Keyring often fails to unlock at login in XFCE, other users in
the xubuntu-users mailing list have also reported this. It affects
applications using the gnome-keyring framework, including chromium /
  google chrome.

The file causing the problem is
/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-pkcs11.desktop . The line
  OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity
  should be changed to
  OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;XFCE

to enable gnome-based applications using the keyring to run properly
  under XFCE.

  dpkg -S gnome-keyring-pkcs11.desktop
  gives
  gnome-keyring: /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-pkcs11.desktop
so the package that needs to be fixed is definitely gnome-keyring.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1024117] Re: fails to play mp3s from a samba share using gio

2012-07-12 Thread John Leach
Tested using packages from the gstreamer dev ppa (gstreamer1.0 /
0.11.92) https://launchpad.net/~gstreamer-developers/+archive/ppa and
the same problem:

gst-launch-1.0 playbin uri="smb://lion/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy -
Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3"

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to gstreamer0.10 in Ubuntu.

Title:
fails to play mp3s from a samba share using gio

Status in “gstreamer0.10” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I'm running the following command to play an mp3 file over a samba
  share:

  gst-launch-0.10 -v playbin2
  uri="smb://lion/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy - Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3"

it starts to play, but after about 1 second the audio goes silent, but
the command doesn't finish. Playing the same file in rhythmbox does
the same thing and the progress indicator keeps moving, suggesting
  playing but is just silent.

If play the same file from the same server but via ssh or sftp, it
  plays fine:

  gst-launch-0.10 -v playbin2
  uri="ssh://lion/media/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy -
  Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3"

If I manually build a chain of sinks using giosrc directly, rather
than using playbin2, it plays ok:

  gst-launch-0.10 giosrc
  location="smb://lion/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy -
  Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3" ! flump3dec ! autoaudiosink

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 977866] Re: no sound while playing music from a gvfs mounted samba share

I've pared this down to a gstreamer bug and have opened a new ticket in
the gstreamer project:

It has some simple ways to reproduce the problem using gst-launcher -
could someone please test my findings there please, and mark the bug
confirmed.

Bug description:
  WORKAROUND 1:
Run CCSM and under "Ubuntu Unity Plugin" change the key binding for "Key to
show the launcher" to something else (e.g. Super+U). Then log out and in again.
As long as no compiz plugin is bound to the single Super key any more, compiz
will no longer block other apps from binding to Super+other_keys.

  WORKAROUND 2:
  1. Write a script or figure out the command to do the action you want.
  2. Run ccsm.
  3. Enable the "Commands" plugin
  4. In the Commands settings, fill in the command line you want and bind it to
key Super+P.
Now Unity will run your specified command on Super+P, but still handle the
Super key as usual.

  [Precise SRU Justification]

[Impact] Any shortcut with Super, Hyper, Meta virtual modifiers does
  not work

[Test Case] Attach an external monitor to the laptop, press Super+P,
it should do the video switch as this function is implemented in
gnome-settings-daemon. A patch in comment #12 is now accepted
upstream and a test package with that patch is available in comment
#14. From the test result, the patch at least fixes Unity-2D.

[Regression Potential] The patch is accepted upstream and is also
cherry-picked in the gnome-3-4 branch of g-s-d git tree. g-s-d version
in Precise is 3.4.2. So the risk of regression should be rather low.

[Other] I prepare a debdiff in comment #31 for convenience. I hope the
patch can be in both Quantal and Precise.

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
Using : 12.04 Beta 1, updated. and Unity.

  In 11.10 clicking:

  - the function key (Fn) + (F1) allowed to switch between the laptop
  screen and the external monitor.

After upgrading to 12.04 this no more works and instead I get an
  unexpected behavior: see the video.

fails to play mp3s from a samba share using gio

Status in “gstreamer0.10” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I'm running the following command to play an mp3 file over a samba
  share:

  gst-launch-0.10 -v playbin2

it starts to play, but after about 1 second the audio goes silent, but
the command doesn't finish. Playing the same file in rhythmbox does
the same thing and the progress indicator keeps moving, suggesting
  playing but is just silent.

If play the same file from the same server but via ssh or sftp, it
  plays fine:

  gst-launch-0.10 -v playbin2
  uri="ssh://lion/media/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy -
  Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3"

If I manually build a chain of sinks using giosrc directly, rather
than using playbin2, it plays ok:

  gst-launch-0.10 giosrc
  location="smb://lion/music/Music/Therapy/Therapy -
  Nurse/Teethgrinder.mp3" ! flump3dec ! autoaudiosink

Cannot play impossibly difficult gnomine games

Status in “gnome-games” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Since upgrading to 12.04, I cannot play my favourite game.

I usually play gnomine with a grid of 69 X 42 squares with 666 mines
  (I call this 'bastard mode').

Since upgrading to 12.04, the "updated" gnomine does not allow
resizing. As such, bastard mode is far far bigger than my screen is
  likely to ever be.

Furthermore, the new startup interface makes my life more difficult,
as I need to re-enter the specs for bastard mode every time I want to
play, as opposed to how it used to be where it just started a new game
  with the previous settings.

  How this can be fixed:
  - reinstate resizing of the gnomine window.
  - pre-populate the 'custom' settings with the last-played game settings (or
add a 'play again' option).

I have a problem when trying to play lagno-game (also known as "othello")
with my mini labtop. The problem is that the programs window is too large to
fit in the 10 inch screen. The window is not scaleable and so it's imposiible
to see and use the rows in the bottom of the playing area.
So I can only move the rograms window, but I cannot make it small enough so
that the whole board could be seen in the same time.
Only solution, that I find, would be making the window scaleable.

Bug description:
NetworkManager stops and starts dnsmasq very frequently (every few
minutes). During the brief window that dnsmasq is restarting,
hostname resolution doesn't work. dnsmasq is getting restarted
frequently enough that I see brief hostname resolution errors in
Chrome several times a day during normal web browsing.

This is on Precise with network-manager 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4 and dnsmasq-
  base 2.59-4.

The frequent restarts seem to be triggered by IPv6 route
advertisements on my network. (See log snippet below.) When
NetworkManager gets a route advertisement, it reconfigures everything.
In the case of dnsmasq, this means stopping dnsmasq, writing a new
config file, and starting dnsmasq. NetworkManager should restart
dnsmasq only if it its configuration changes.

I'm attaching a snippet from /var/log/daemon.log on my system that
demonstrates a restart. This is with debug logging configured in
  /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 950160] Re: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* or Alt+* (* = any key)

2012-07-12 Thread Brian Murray
Hello hanynowsky, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-settings-daemon into precise-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
settings-daemon/3.4.2-0ubuntu0.4 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at

advance!
