[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1021720] Re: gedit hangs opening some files
I also have this problem, so, apparantly, its not unique to aloctavodia's system. Ubuntu 12.04, gedit 3.4.1, amd64 processor. Let me know if you'd like more info and how to generate it for you. Specifically, I was looking at several .doc files, none of them massive (less than 200kB). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gedit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021720 Title: gedit hangs opening some files Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When opening some files gedit hangs and consume a lot of RAM memory and then swap memory. The system became unresponsive. The only solution is to kill gedit or reboot. Generally this happens with "big files", I do not know exactly the limit but probably files with more than ~5000 lines. Sometimes gedit manage to open the file, but generally it hangs. Sometimes after killing gedit firefox is also un- responsive and a pop-up window (or 2 or 3) complain about a script that is running, the name of the script running is a long strings of character with "js" extension. this firefox message appears only when gedit hangs, but sometimes gedit hangs and this firefox message do not appear. Please let me know if you need more information. I use gedit all the time, to program and to edit files and this bug is really annoying. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1030504] Re: Please ship pkg-config file lixbul.pc in firefox-dev
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. We can't properly support binary extensions with rapid release, this is why the pkg-config file was removed. Please try the mozilla-plugin.pc file as it should provide the ability to build NPAPI plugins whose interface most likely won't be changing over time. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: New => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1030504 Title: Please ship pkg-config file lixbul.pc in firefox-dev Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: In the firefox-dev package for Ubuntu Oneiric there used to be a pkg- config file for XULRunner, namely /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libxul.pc. This allowed binary extensions to be configured and built in a sane way. In the Precise version of firefox-dev, this file has been removed due to the "Removing XULRunner from oneiric" effort [1]. Unfortunately, this effectively breaks proper build configuration for third-party binary extensions, such as mozilla-gnome-keyring [2] and forces the Ubuntu package [3] to use hardcoded paths. I don't see any point in "hiding" the XULRunner interface in Ubuntu, since this is what locks Ubuntu out for interesting binary firefox extensions. Other distributions such as Fedora and Debian still ship the libxul.pc file. Please include the libxul.pc file in the firefox-dev package. --- [1] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-motu/2011-May/007088.html [2] https://github.com/infinity0/mozilla-gnome-keyring [3] https://launchpad.net/~fat-lobyte9/+archive/ppa-public/+packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1030504/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 411358] Re: Thunderbird2 gconf gmt problem 'Bad key or directory name' because of plus symbol (+)
I'm yet to do a bit more research into this but I believe that Thunderbird is basically correct in what it is doing (even though it seems daft at face value)... I can also confirm that Thunderbird has been doing this for a long time and what has changed is the presentation of the gconf errors. This issue is attributed to the Ubuntu Thunderbird package being compiled with support for GIO. If you use the binary package from mozilla then it does not should a pop up dialog. Thunderbird chooses GIO in preference to GConf if it's available but then GIO actually uses GConf itself to do the lookup. The error handling is configured slightly differently and this results in the pop-ups. I need to do some more tests when I have time and then I'll try to propose a fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/411358 Title: Thunderbird2 gconf gmt problem 'Bad key or directory name' because of plus symbol (+) Status in Mozilla Thunderbird Mail and News: Confirmed Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Here is an error message for Thunderbird 2 in Jaunty gnubyexample@k8amd:~$ thunderbird GConf Error: Bad key or directory name: "/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/GMT+02/command": `+' is an invalid character in key/directory names gnubyexample@k8amd:~$ date;uname -a;cat /etc/*version*;dpkg -l | grep underbird Sun Aug 9 14:48:37 BST 2009 Linux k8amd 2.6.28-14-generic #47-Ubuntu SMP Sat Jul 25 00:28:35 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux 5.0 ii enigmail 2:0.95.7-1ubuntu2 Enigmail - GPG support for Thunderbird ii thunderbird 2.0.0.22+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1 mail/news client with RSS and integrated spam filter support ii thunderbird-locale-en-gb 1:2.0.0.14+1-0ubuntu2 Thunderbird English language/region package From reading this extract ( http://osdir.com/ml/os.solaris.opensolaris.desktop/2008-03/msg00020.html ): Subject:Re: GConf/Thunderbird error on Solaris Nevada "Hi Mats,I believe you download the contribute builds of Thunderbird 2, and run it on snv_70. For some reason, the fix is upstreamed to Thunderbird 3 alpha, but not community version of Thunderbird 2. Fixed in snv_68 means the fix was integrated to Thunderbird bundled with snv_68." ...it seems that the fix for this in thunderbird2 might require some manual intervention as although the problem is well know, the fix was only incorporated in the newer thunderbird3. Have just checked the Karmic version at: http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/thunderbird which currently shows that version 2 of thunderbird is planned for Karmic release. As thunderbird3 is at Beta 3 right now I can perhaps see why debian and ubuntu are sticking with Thunderbird2 just now. http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/about/press/archive/2009-07-21-01 However it does seem a shame to ship a new release with this known gconf issue unpatched. As described by Chris Coulson, a message highlights the menu if: "- The message is sent with high-priority OR - The message is flagged (by a filter) OR - The message is addressed directly to the recipient (eg, not CC) AND the message is not low prioirty AND the message wasn't automated AND the message is not from a mailing list." This is good behavior for some people, but not for others, e.g. ViViD: "In my personal case, no message received through Thunderbird lacks importance. Since I hide the launcher by default, many mails go unnoticed for a time and I find myself randomly mousing over the launcher to check mails." To suit more people, Thunderbird should contain a setting for which messages highlight the messaging menu. One option should be to highlight messages if they are from one of your contacts. This setting needs design, and then proposing (and maybe implementing) upstream. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1030575] [NEW] Advise user to install poppler-data if applicable
Public bug reported: In order to display CJK fonts, Evince needs the package "poppler-data" to be installed. If "poppler-data" isn't installed, any CJK text in a document is invisible, and Evince doesn't indicate to the user why the text is invisible. Suggested enhancement to Evince: (modified from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/poppler/+bug/197537/comments/26 ) 'What needs to be done is for Evince to display a warning like "CJK font support is included in the package poppler-data, which is currently not installed on your system" in these cases.' An intended solution has been made (documented in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-selector/+bug/893920 ) by modifying language-selector, starting with Ubuntu 12.04, to install poppler-data unconditionally. Even so, there are still some reasons for the suggested enhancement to Evince: * Someone may un-install poppler-data, either accidentally or on purpose, (if Evince was un-installed as part of this, then Evince may then be re-installed without poppler-data,) then try to view a file in Evince that contains CJK fonts. * I don't know much about language-selector, so I suppose there may be cases when language-selector doesn't run, either on upgrade from a version of Ubuntu prior to 12.04, or on a new install of 12.04 or higher. * If the issue is addressed upstream (that is, in Evince), then users of other Linux distros would benefit. I am reporting this issue against Ubuntu instead of upstream because of the relevancy of language-selector, which is specific to Ubuntu. The issue of invisible "CJK" fonts can affect PDF documents that contain only Latin-alphabet characters but were produced by software that is set up for CJK speakers. So the issue can affect non-CJK-speaking Evince users. My Evince package version is 2.32.0-0ubuntu12.4 on Ubuntu 11.04 (natty). ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evince in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1030575 Title: Advise user to install poppler-data if applicable Status in “evince” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: In order to display CJK fonts, Evince needs the package "poppler-data" to be installed. Solved!! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881172 Title: Graphical errors on charts in resources tab (faded bands) Status in “gnome-system-monitor” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On my system, the charts on the system monitor resources tab are displayed with some graphical errors. The most obvious manifestation seems to be faded bands along the charted lines, though there is also extra white around the chart area (rather than the grey of the window background). The chart labels also end up quite blurry and hard to read. Sometimes the pink line for memory usage seems to hover horizontally right in one of the faded areas, and becomes nearly invisible. Bizarrely, the problem is sometimes only present on one of my monitors. The screenshot I have attached was taken straddling the two monitors; the zone on the left appears normal, while the zone on the right is noticeably affected. Dragging the system monitor between the two monitors causes the issue to appear and disappear. However, other times there is no difference and the system monitor is affected equally no matter which monitor it is on. Addtional: I attach a screenshot of the print preview of evince, whith the opended document in evince in background. I also attach the document which is affected by or causes the error. Steps to reproduce: 1.Open the attached document with evince 2.Use File -> print -> print preview and see the error rendered document in print preview view. 3.Close print preview. 4.Use the print button in the still open print dialog. 5.See that the paper print result is the same as in print preview. The reproduction procedure hits the error to 100%. The pdf rendering on the computer screen by evince is working proper with this document and shows by itself no corruption. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 803631] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV
I think I've got the same bug. A couple of weeks before I've hit this with Linux Mint also. I investigated then and the problem was that the network applet registered callbacks for events (network disconnection etc.) but failed to unregister them when the applet was unloaded. Because of this, the callbacks would be called again with freed memory addresses as parameters. Steps to reproduce: Open gnome-control-center, and after that the network panel. Toggle the wired connection ON->OFF (I have a wired one), then OFF->ON. Exit network panel to gnome-control-center and then reenter network panel. Crash. From what I remember using Valgrind took a couple (4, 5 at max) of entering, exiting the network applet before a crash would occur. Using the Ubuntu compiled version would get me a crash directly. I'm using Ubuntu quantal (development branch) AMD64, gnome-control- center 3.4.2. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/803631 Title: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: In a 3D Unity session on the Oneiric i386 20110629 daily-live, I opened the Network control panel in gnome-control-center 1:3.0.2-1ubuntu5 by using Unity to search for "network" and clicking on the search result called Network. I configured a network connection with WPA2 encryption, but it did not appear to connect--instead, gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV (in an unspecified function). When I re-entered the Control Center by typing "gnome- control-center" (without the quotes) in the Unity search box and pressing enter, I was able to return to the Network control panel, where my settings were remembered, and I was able to connect successfully just by re-selecting the network name. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1030504] [NEW] Please ship pkg-config file lixbul.pc in firefox-dev
Public bug reported: In the firefox-dev package for Ubuntu Oneiric there used to be a pkg- config file for XULRunner, namely /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libxul.pc. Both cursors are set to the type that the last cursor that moved should be. To reproduce the bug: 0. Get MPX working. (You'll need Lucid, and extra mouse and keyboard, and this tutorial->https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/MPX. ) 1. Open a gtk application. Gedit for example. 2. Type some text. 3. Put cursor A over the text. 4. Put cursor B over a toolbar button (Without moving cursor A). 5. Notice that both cursors are a pointer. 6. Move cursor A the slightest bit. 7. Notice that both cursors are are the text, capital i-shaped style. What I expected instead:That each cursor would be the style associated with whatever it was over, independently of the other cursor. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 503632] [NEW] Multiple cursors always have the same cursor for one window, has to do with the last cursor that moved
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm reporting this as a gtk problem because this bug does not occur in KDE 3 or KDE 4 applications, only in gnome ones. The problem is that when Multiple MPX cursors are on the same gtk window, they are both the same, even if one was over text and another is over a button.
