Bug description:
I'm using fprint package for finger-print authentication.

Half the time when my laptop recovers from suspend, I am able to enter a
password (or, after pressing Enter, a finger print instead).
But half the time when it recovers from suspend, the lightdm (?) login
screen instead says that authentication has timed out. For some reason I then
have to wait a good 25 seconds before I get another chance. At that point, I
am able to enter a password or fingerprint as normal.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1300462]

2015-04-03 Thread Cpblpublic+bugzilla
Thank you very much. I think it's been listed against LightDM on the Ubuntu bug
site since (near) the beginning. So it's just that it hasn't caught their
attention yet, I suppose. Or maybe it needs another upstream link out of Ubuntu.
Thanks!

2015-04-03 Thread Igpg
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89820 All the information
you need for what's happening on my FullHD 15.6

And I do not agree this to be an enhancment as you are forced to use
LXDE (Which is the only one it will respect your HARD WORK ON SETTING
THE DPI AND DIMENSION) while all the other DE's / WM's will ignore that
(As it's supposed Xorg is getting the right dimension DPI) and After
that you must search and look up how to force Firefox, Mozilla, Skype
(not supported) Chromium (Not supported) Pidgin, etc, etc applications
which will just ignore the Operating system set DPI.

That's not at all an enhancment!

For example, if one enters ` /path/to/directory` the input (including

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1366519] Re: Incredibly slow editing of documents when connected to network

2015-04-03 Thread Mezzo
Confirmed also with WebDAV protocol (davfs2) items in Recent Documents

Add WebDAV using davfs2 to the list of remote protocols that cause
gradual slow down of LibreOffice operations. With a davfs2 mount point
mounted, LibreOffice loads snappy at first, but after 3-4 davfs2 mounted
documents it begins to slooow down on all operations, even typing.
Clearing the Recent Documents speeds it right back up, as does
unmounting the davfs2 mount point.

Bug description:
When editing a document using LibreOffice, the system locks up after
every update typed. Lock up can be up to 30 seconds before control is
returned to the user. I have found that this takes place even on
documents located on the same physical machine, not just network
  hosted documents.

Problem does not occur if I disconnect form the SSHFS drive.

I can understand potential delay when editing a remote document but
the connection to an SSHFS file server is affecting editing of locally
  held documents too.

Hello Owen, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gdm into utopic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/3.10.0.1-0ubuntu7.2 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

When I start to use the computer, the device (mouse) functions
normally. After a certain period of use, it starts to get out of
control on the screen when I move it ie it loses focus, gets out of
control but this happens over a period of two (2) seconds. After, use
it normally and when I'm using the computer, surfing the Internet when
I open several tabs, each eight (8) or so, it simply for the screen
and disobeys my device via command (mouse). The keyboard works
normally up because I can use the keys alt + tab to switch between
windows normally, and the tab to jump between the hyperlink fields
and input fields, and can not type normally. Tested on Microsoft
Windows XP the device, and it presented no problem. I used it for a
period of ten (10) continuous hours and it presented no problem. I
believe the problem is in this package as I was to the Ubuntu forums,
and realized that there are many people complaining about the same
problem but with a different mouse models. So I can rule out that this
problem is related to hardware because not only happens in my but on
other hardware of different brands and models.

It happened that the mouse catching and only resolved when I restart

pressing the enter key. After the restart, the mouse works normally
but it after a while, around the same cycle consisting of lose focus,

two (2) seconds and it returns to normal, but then this happens again
and is thus during the same period, which is one (1) or two (2 )

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1440251] [NEW] X crashed after a reboot.. no X now

2015-04-03 Thread mike
Public bug reported:

this was fine for a while.. out of the box mint 16 was buggy with my video card
on this brand new laptop.
its a lenovo E545 with a Radeon HD 8450G video card.
so i installed Linux_AMD_Catalyst_14.3_Beta_V1.0_B22_March12_2014.zip and it
was fine.. up until now.
i rebooted my laptop and X never came up.. ive uninstalled the amd stuff and i
can get X back but its tearing the screen and very unusable, like it was the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1366519] Re: Incredibly slow editing of documents when connected to network

2015-04-03 Thread Mezzo
Temporary fix until bug is solved:

Removing the Recent Documents from the File Menu temporarily fixes
this issue so you don't have to clear the menu all the time. This is
obviously not a real fix, but it gets people back to work:

Tools Customize

Choose Menu File

Select Recent Documents and click Modify on the right pull down and
choose Delete

Title:
Incredibly slow editing of documents when connected to network

Status in LibreOffice Productivity Suite:
  Confirmed
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When editing a document using LibreOffice, the system locks up after
every update typed. Lock up can be up to 30 seconds before control is
returned to the user. I have found that this takes place even on
documents located on the same physical machine, not just network
  hosted documents.

Problem does not occur if I disconnect form the SSHFS drive.

I can understand potential delay when editing a remote document but
the connection to an SSHFS file server is affecting editing of locally
  held documents too.

  QL-570 don't cut anymore

Status in ptouch-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have upgraded my mint 15 to mint 17. After the new installation of
all equipment, I realized that the Brother QL-570, although still
printing the labels, but now it does no longer cutting. At first I had
tried various settings and Ubuntu 14.04 too, but the cut was never
  carried out.

  After hours of attempts I have now found that it is on ptouch-driver;
with the old version 1.3-4ubuntu1 the cut is working properly, the
Version 1.3-6 and 1.3-8 does not work (anymore).

I suspect it has to do with the following change:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=printing/ptouch-driver.git;a=commit;h=d70cf3b26bf5d8530579f7146164996c019b783c

I think, the ESC i A-command does not arrive the QL-Printer

Add option to display HTML mail in evolution

Status in The Evolution Mail Calendaring Tool:
  Won't Fix
Status in evolution package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evolution

When selecting the option Only ever show PLAIN under Evolution
Preferences Mail Preferences HTML Messages HTML Mode, it is
impossible to have evolution show the HTML content of an e-mail.

It would be nice to have the option of clicking a button (a la KMail) to
display HTML content, even if Evolution has been instructed to never show HTML
content.
Alternatively, an additional option in the aforementioned option something
along the lines of Show PLAIN by default.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1315442] Re: Extra fi in /etc/init.d/gdm

2015-04-03 Thread Scott Sanbar
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu release 14.04 LTS
  gdm 3.10.0.1-0ubuntu3

I just tried to start gdm with /etc/init.d/gdm start and got the
  message:

  /etc/init.d/gdm: 79: /etc/init.d/gdm: Syntax error: fi unexpected
  (expecting })

I'm aware of service(8) but cjwatson said I should report this as a bug
  anyway!

  Owen
+
+ SRU Information:
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * Anyone who tries to use the sysv style /etc/init.d/gdm script to control
+gdm may get a syntax error which disallows the script from running,
+bombing out to the command line with an unfriendly error
+
+ * This problem effects vivid, utopic and trusty. Without this fix
+backported, the functionality of the sysv style script for controlling
+the gdm service is broken under certain circumstances. The resulting
+unfriendly error is also unprofessional and gives a feeling of
+brokenness to Ubuntu in all three of these releases, including the
+ones to be backported to.
+
+ * This upload is a series of three patches. The syntax error
+results from a single line in each of the debian/gdm.init files which get
+installed as the /etc/init.d/gdm shell script. The problem is an extra
+unmatched fi that results in a syntax error if the corresponding line
+is interpreted
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * To test the fix in vivid, type the following commands before and after
+the updated package is installed:
+
+cd /etc/init.d
+sudo ./gdm
+
+If the script exits with a syntax error before the package with
+the fix is installed, you have verified the bug.
+
+If the script exits with a syntax error after the package is installed,
+the fix did not work.
+If the script does not indicate a syntax error after the package
+is installed, the fix worked
+
+To test the fix on utopic, do the identical test as in vivid above
+but instead use the following single command to invoke the script:
+
+sudo /etc/init.d/gdm
+
+To test the fix on trusty, do the test as in vivid and utopic,
+but use the following commands to change directories and invoke
+the script:
+
+cd /etc/init.d
+sudo ./gdm
+sudo ./gdm start
+
+In this case, both times you run the script it should exit with
+the syntax error before installing the package and neither time
+after installing the package.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Any scripts which may call this script which happen to mistakenly
+rely on it to fail could perhaps behave differently, with unknown
+results possible
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * Using or not using sudo before each command may affect the tests
+with varying output that may be unexpected. In all cases, however,
+if the script bombs on a syntax error happens mentioning a line number
+and fi the test definitely either verified the bug or definitively
+showed the package did not fix the bug (or was not installed correctly).
+
+A situation which arose during the testing is that depending on the
+whether the patch is on vivid, utopic or trusty, calling the script
+in different ways (fully qualified path vs. changing the current
+directory to /etc/init.d and using ./gdm, for instance, or
+including or not including the 'start' parameter) causes the
+test to behave differently, for instance failing silently or working
+depending on how the script is called even with the syntax error present.
+This is why there are different command lines for each version of the
+patch for testing.
+
+I did some tracing on why this happened, and the reasons seem buried deep
+within the trees of scripts called beneath /etc/init.d/gdm and are outside
+the scope of this fix and do not invalidate this fix. This fix deals
+with a simple top level shell script syntax error that can be successfully
+tested for as indicated above.

This time out should not be triggered during/after a suspend.

2 seconds required after entering an incorrect password.

2015-04-03 Thread darkhawk
If i deactivate and reactivate the Sierra EM7345 inside the bios and
reboot to ubuntu 15.04 beta2 with current updates, the card is working
again.

So it might be a problem with the power settings/handling by the sierra
card?!

HSDPA/UMTS/LTE. But just for this time.

Now, after some regular updates, the Sierra Card is not accessable
inside the nm-applet menu for creating a new mobile data connection,
the old connection profil is missing too. The Sierra EM7345 was also
named as cdc-wdm not by name.

Title:
Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi
  connection

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
On my Nexus 4, build 121 with TMobile, when I am on wifi, I correctly
get a 192.168 ip and DNS entries for this network (on wlan0) -- fine.
When I am in range of cellular data, I get an ip address from TMobile
and am given DNS entries that aren't on the same network as the
TMobile ip address (on rmnet_usb0). The problem is, the DNS entries
from TMobile are preferred over the ones from the wifi network such
that while wlan0 is correctly setup as the default route, DNS queries
are being made to the TMobile DNS servers over wlan0 because there are
no explicit routes to these servers. This is problematic because the
remote DNS server may not respond to queries coming from out of
network or site policy may disallow the use of foreign DNS servers--
both of which result in slow (or possibly failing) DNS queries since
the cellular DNS is checked first. Also, where it did work, these
queries could incur charges when the user is intending to use only
wifi. In the case of (at least) TMobile, this could be a security
concern because the well-known TMobile DNS servers are on the private
'10.' network, which opens the possibility for a rogue DNS server to
be on the private wifi network with this ip address.

This could be fixed in (at least) four ways:
   1) when on wifi, don't merge the DNS servers on cellular networks at all
which forces the device to use the ones available on the site (wlan0). This is
guaranteed to not incur changes
   2) when on wifi, merge the DNS server from the cellular network, but add
them after the ones on the wifi network. This will try the site's DNS first and
only if they fail, fallback to the cellular DNS. This may incur charges under
certain circumstances
   3) add an explicit route to the cellular DNS servers through rmnet_usb0.
This will bypass the site DNS with all queries going through cellular DNS. This
will incur charges and would make the device unable to resolve site-local names.
   4) same as '2', but also add explicit routes for the cellular name servers.
This should only incur charges if wifi DNS fails

I think '3' is out. '2' and '4' seems most intuitive (with '4' perhaps
most correct). '1' seems also ok.

Recent accountsservice update causes login window to hang

Status in Light Display Manager:

Status in accountsservice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hi,

  The recent 0.6.35-0ubuntu7.1 update (see
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/accountsservice/+bug/1290785)
seems to have removed the UID_MAX check, which could be used to hide
users from the login window. In a large organization where many
thousands of users are present on our systems, we relied on the
UID_MAX setting in /etc/login.defs to prevent accounts-daemon from
trying to frob all our accounts. accounts-daemon's performance is so
poor, that not having the UID_MAX check causes lightdm to hang for
5-10mins while accounts-daemon tries to look for something in every
  users home folder.

I've already done things like set the login window to require the user
to enter their username and password rather than list all users, but
the login window still hangs while accounts-daemon is doing its thing.

  The behavior I see, is:

  1) just after boot, there's a black screen, right after the plymouth splash
disappears, for 2-3 minutes before lightdm appears
  2) You type a username into the username field and press 'Tab'
  3) lightdm appears to hang for 5-10mins before the cursor moves to the
password field. During this time, I see an accounts-daemon spawn for each user
on the system, sequentially (in alphabetical order). Once the last user's
accounts-daemon process finishes, the cursor moves to the password field.

This not only happens on first boot, but every time a user logs out
and the system returns to the login window.

Any chance we can have the UID_MAX check back? Or some equivalent?
This is causing a serious problem for us!

  Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1440057] [NEW] numlockx is always invoked and i can't switch off

2015-04-03 Thread LukasThyWalls
Public bug reported:

I'm in a fresh install of Lubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (three days ago).

Because the default greeter for Lubuntu (lightdm-gtk-greeter) doesn't
fit my requeriments, i installed pantheon-greeter from the Elementary-OS
repository (only essentials deb files, not installing the PPA
repository) and one of the requeriments of pantheon-greeter is numlockx.

The greeter is working like should be, but when i start a session, the
numlock is on after the greeter, and my notebook doens't have it, making
keys JKLUIO - 123456 respectively and so on, having to turn off
manually every time.

This can't be a problem with pantheon-greeter because if i config again
to use lightdm-gtk-greeter, is happening again. Since i install
pantheon-greeter (and its dependency numlockx) it's happening in all
greeters.

The problem is can't configure it. In /etc/lightdm/pantheon-greeter.conf
activate-numlock=false do nothing, in /etc/lxdm/default.conf is
unchanged as default (## uncomment and set to set numlock on your
keyboard ↲ # numlock=0) and change it do nothing, and any other option
(/etc/xdg/autostart/*, /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart, ...) and
everything i searched in internet simply do nothing.

I'm talking about numlockx because i know it's numlockx what is invoked
for something, i created a dummy script replacing /usr/bin/numlockx what
make a registry of what program is calling numlockx and always is
/bin/bash /usr/sbin/lightdm-session /usr/bin/lxsession -s Lubuntu -e
LXDE after greeter login.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-04-03 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for the additional info, Raphael!

Both Leandro's research and your input indeed indicate that we should
make the same change for pt_PT, but it would be good if someone living
in Portugal could comment on it first, so we don't upload something
based on speculation.

Are you Brazilian guys reasonably satisfied with 'the LC_CTYPE approach'
for now?

As regards the possible future fcitx issue I mentioned, I filed bug
#1439231.

Bug description:

When typing in a US-international keyboard with dead-keys (or
UK-international),
typing 'c results in an accented c instead of a cedilla.

There is a workaround, which is editing the

  /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules

  file and changing the line

  cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale
  az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa

  to

  cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale
  az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en

(add the 'en' at the end).

However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the
change,
and we get back to the accented c. That means having to modify the file again,
  logout and login.

For me this is no problem. But for my brother, mom, dad, etc, it is always
something
that at least makes me less proud of having convinced them to use Ubuntu,
because
they don't know what to do each time this happens.

I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and that
would
be very easy), the inclusion of alternate layouts on install that for the
dead-key
options (as US-deadkey and UK-deakey), alternate layouts as
US-deadkey-cedilla.

This change is relevant for at least Portuguese and French.

Title:
  libreOffice: PDF/A fobids transparency

Status in The Linux Mint Distribution:
  New
Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Mint17 kde 64-bit

Problem happens with pretty much any document, including a blank page
set to 7x9 with 1 inch margins.

  Click File-export PDF

Check PDF/A box then click export/ok, choose file name, etc.

Will create a PDF file which has actual content, but throws up error
  dialog stating:

PDF/A forbids transparency. A transparent object was painted opaque
  instead.

  Happens every time.

This also causes various printer drivers to crash/gag on documents
thanks to Apple's worthless decision to use PDF instead of the
  incredibly stable Postscript standard.

2015-04-03 Thread Raphael das Neves Calvo
Gunnar,
I do agree we must have input from someone from Portugal to validate
everything we are saying...
But, even though I especulated about Portugal history the other post with
MS-DOS configuration data is solid data and can be corroborated with a
simple web research.

Regards.

 #1439231.

I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and
 that would

 the dead-key

 US-deadkey-cedilla.

QL-500 prints past end of label

Status in ptouch-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The QL-500 label printer prints past the end of the label in the
vertical (direction of feed) direction. This means that when you print
e.g. an address label and use the label cutter, several things happen:

  1) Because the printer has printed past the end of the label, the head is
positioned part-way into the next label
  2) Because the head is positioned part-way into the next label, the optical
alignment sensor cannot see the black alignment marks on the back of the
labels. This causes the printer to flag an alignment error when you next try to
print a label.

The effect is you can only print one label at a time.

There is a patch included which reduces the Y resolution of the QL-550
printer to 275 dpi. It seems like it may be necessary to extend this
  to the QL-500 too.

2015-04-03 Thread darkhawk
Restart again, deactivated the Sierra EM7345 inside the bios, save and
restart to ubuntu - no more Datacard available as expected.

Restarting again and reactivate the Sierra EM7345 inside the bios, save
and restart to ubuntu - Windows with Enter SIM PIN is working, but
the nm-applet isn't working anylonger. (the last wifi settings are still
active and working...)

It seems to be a problem between the Sierra EM7345 Hardware and some modules or
networkmanager/nm-applet/ModemManager ?!

Any ideas? I really would like to help to solve this issue quickly.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-04-03 Thread Raphael das Neves Calvo
We can find some evidence of what I am saying here about the Latin Code
page for MS-DOS.

http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/KEYB

Here follows a screenshot of the MS-DOS character set setup a.k.a.
codepage).

Note that in the keyboard code in Brazil is Empty... That is because on
that time in history we did not have a keyboard. Only in the 90's that we
standardized a Brazilian keyboard (ABNT2).

You can also note that for EVERY Latin country the carachter set was code
page 437 which in modern versions of MS-DOS (I believe since MS-DOS 5.0)
was superseded by code page 850.

The only thing that changes is the keyboard layout (for countries that had
their own layouts) but the combination of symbols and letters to represent
a new one such as ç was the same independent of the keyboard chosen.

Since in Brazil we did not have a specific keyboard we used the US
International (code 103) with the code page set to 850.

Portugal had their own keyboard layout but if they were using the US
international keyboard layout the behavior was the same as here in Brazil.

... Maybe this help...

Calvo

 One more thing...

In the glory days of DR-DOS/MS-DOS, if I am not mistaken, there was no
keyboard setup specially made for Brazil regarding US International
keyboard. It was a setup for Latin languages, I.e., every country that has
a latin language was affected (French, portuguese, Italian...)

 Gunnar,

My guess here is based on history but maybe I am wrong
The reason we Brazilians use the US international keyboard so much is
because in the '70s and '80s we didn't have a national industry to cope
with our internal demands for products related to computers. Almost every
single computer we had was imported (leggaly or illegally) from USA or it
was a clone made by our industry based on an US computer model.

Portugal may have had a similar issue (I am especulating here) because
they were also under a dictatorship for some time, but in their case if a
similar situation occurred than they would probably had access to some
design made in Europe instead of something from US. Again, I am
especulating... It is just a theory but Leandro pointed out that he made a
brief research about this issue being relevant to Portuguese people and he
found some links to substantiate the claim that Portugueses would be
 benefited from this fix.

 Kind Regards

 Calvo

Thanks for your comments re pt_PT, Leandro.

As long as we consider setting LC_CTYPE, in any of the ways mentioned in
comment #96, a fix, it should be noted that '+c results in ç
irrespective of which keyboard layout you use. In other words, the
changed behavior is not conditioned by the use of an English US
international keyboard layout, as Raphael suggested in comment #98. I
assume that this was considered a reasonable behavior for Brazilian
users, considering which physical keyboards are typically used in
 Brazil.

We could propose a change to the libx11 package which adds a
 /usr/share/X11/locale/pt_PT.UTF-8/Compose file. But before proposing
such a change I would like to ask if it would make as much sense for
users living in Portugal as the corresponding Brazilian file makes for
 users living in Brazil.

 * Do users who live in Portugal use an English US international
keyboard layout as often as Brazilian users do, or do they typically
   use some Portuguese keyboard layout?

 * Since the behavior may make typing certain other European languages
more difficult, is that drawback possibly of greater importance for
   users living in Portugal (Europe)?

The only Portuguese locales which are supported in Ubuntu are pt_PT and
 pt_BR.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-04-03 Thread Raphael das Neves Calvo
Gunnar

Thank you very much for your time trying to solve this bug with the
community.

It is really important for us in Brazil and for Ubuntu as well.

Best regards man!

 Gunnar,
I do agree we must have input from someone from Portugal to validate
 everything we are saying...
But, even though I especulated about Portugal history the other post with
MS-DOS configuration data is solid data and can be corroborated with a
 simple web research.

 Regards.

 #1439231.

 Title:
cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

Status in central project for keyboard configuration:

Status in gtk+2.0 package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed
Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu:
   Fix Released
Status in libx11 package in Ubuntu:
   New
Status in xkeyboard-config package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed

 Bug description:

When typing in a US-international keyboard with dead-keys (or
 UK-international),
typing 'c results in an accented c instead of a cedilla.

There is a workaround, which is editing the

   /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules

   file and changing the line

   cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale
   az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa

   to

   cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale
   az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en

(add the 'en' at the end).

However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the
 change,
and we get back to the accented c. That means having to modify the file
 again,
   logout and login.

For me this is no problem. But for my brother, mom, dad, etc, it is
 always something
that at least makes me less proud of having convinced them to use
 Ubuntu, because
they don't know what to do each time this happens.

I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and
 that would
be very easy), the inclusion of alternate layouts on install that for
 the dead-key
options (as US-deadkey and UK-deakey), alternate layouts as
 US-deadkey-cedilla.

This change is relevant for at least Portuguese and French.

Status in compiz package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
This bug does not happen with Unity 2D or Gnome-Shell. Same problem on
  both Oneiric and Precise (up-to-date).

When a tooltip from a Wine app disappear, its shadow remains. This can
quickly leads to an unusable window.
To clean these shadows, I have to move the window.

I confirmed this bug with Mathcad 14, GeNIe and some others not-known
apps. It does not happen, for example, with VLC or Steam.

If you want to test with something free and lightweight, you can try
  with Sumatra: http://blog.kowalczyk.info/software/sumatrapdf/download-
  free-pdf-viewer.html

Attached is a picture of a rather extreme case (made with a non-free app).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1440105] [NEW] [packaging]nvidia-331-updates provides wrong nvidia-persistenced path Upstart job configuration

2015-04-03 Thread Vdragon
Public bug reported:

Hi, I noticed that the Upstart job configuration that nvidia-331-updates
package provides called a wrong path nvidia-persistenced executable,
while nvidia-persistenced is located at /usr/lib/nvidia-331-updates/bin
/nvidia-persistenced, it calls /usr/bin/nvidia-persistenced instead.

NOTE: /usr/bin/nvidia-persistenced is not same as /usr/bin/start-nvidia-
persistenced which is provided by nvidia-prime package

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04
Package: nvidia-331-updates 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.4
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-39.66-generic 3.13.11.8
Uname: Linux 3.13.0-39-generic i686
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.8
Architecture: i386
CurrentDesktop: KDE
Date: Fri Apr 3 23:33:26 2015
SourcePackage: nvidia-graphics-drivers-331-updates
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)

** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-331-updates (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
