This bug does not happen with Unity 2D or Gnome-Shell. Same problem on

When a tooltip from a Wine app disappear, its shadow remains. This can

To clean these shadows, I have to move the window.

I confirmed this bug with Mathcad 14, GeNIe and some others not-known

If you want to test with something free and lightweight, you can try
  with Sumatra: http://blog.kowalczyk.info/software/sumatrapdf/download-

Attached is a picture of a rather extreme case (made with a non-free app).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

With the latest change to language-selector, that's how it will work in
15.04.

The time-zone part is a misconception.

The time zone location is only relevant in the installer. The installer
does not have a separate window for setting "Regional Formats", i.e.
things like date/time and number formats, currency symbol etc. Instead
it 'guesses' the regional formats based on the selected time zone
location. So if you select a Brazilian time zone location in the
installer, you'll end up with an installation where the regional formats
are Brazilian Portuguese.

If you don't, and if you don't either select Brazilian Portuguese as the
language, there is no reason to change to another time zone afterwards.
Instead you can open the Language Support GUI, install Portuguese, and
then change either the language or *the regional formats* (or both) to
Brazilian Portuguese.

(And as a last resort, if you don't want Brazilian Portuguese as the
display language or the regional formats, you can instead generate the
pt_BR.UTF-8 locale and edit ~/.profile.)

This, in itself, shouldn't be very complicated to explain. After all,
it's reasonable that you need to do *something* to get the desired
behavior, isn't it?

> ... when things do not work out as expected, I think people will

Right, personally I think the biggest issue here is how to get the
message out. People may end up at this bug report, with quite a few
suggested workarounds. There is also Ask Ubuntu. I added an answer to

http://askubuntu.com/questions/363115

However, that's just one answer among a bunch of others, basically
suggesting the same workarounds as have been mentioned in this report.

How are things working in Brazil? Does it exist any local adapted ISO
file (e.g. a Brazilian remix)? Is there any local support forum, from
where the word could be spread?

As regards pt_PT, we could make it work the same way as it does for pt_BR in
the beginning of next development cycle. Then a few months will pass before the
release of 15.10, and if - contrary to expectation - people don't like it, the
change might be reverted before release.

Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in libx11 package in Ubuntu:

Status in xkeyboard-config package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

When typing in a US-international keyboard with dead-keys (or
UK-international),
typing 'c results in an accented c instead of a cedilla.

There is a workaround, which is editing the

  /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules

  file and changing the line

  "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk20" "/usr/share/locale"
  "az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa"

  to

  "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk20" "/usr/share/locale"
  "az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en"

(add the 'en' at the end).

However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the
change,
and we get back to the accented c. That means having to modify the file again,
  logout and login.

For me this is no problem. But for my brother, mom, dad, etc, it is always
something
that at least makes me less proud of having convinced them to use Ubuntu,
because
they don't know what to do each time this happens.

I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and that
would
be very easy), the inclusion of alternate layouts on install that for the
dead-key
options (as US-deadkey and UK-deakey), alternate layouts as
US-deadkey-cedilla.

This change is relevant for at least Portuguese and French.

Bug description:
Semi-maximizing a window and then restoring it does not return the
window back to it's original place before semi-maximizing it.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Place window somewhere near the left side of the screen.
  2. Press Ctrl-Super-Right to semi-maximize the window to the right side of
the screen.
  3. Click the restore button.

Observe the window is restored to near right side of the screen
instead of back where it was originally near the left.

Note: Dragging the window to the left/right edge to semi-maximize
*will* restore the window back to its original position. It's only
  the shortcut that causes this.

A similar issue solved by bug 710356 happens when using the "vertical
maximization" of windows. I mean, if you just middle-click on the
maximize window control, the window should be vertically maximized,
but due to the shadow-grabbing feature there's still a bottom edge not
filled with the application content (cause the shadow uses it!).

So, to reproduce it, just: middle-click over a maximize button.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-04-06 Thread Leandro
Concerning the pt_PT: Although we do not have manifestations from Portuguese
people, we can be quite certain (as we know the Portuguese language :-) ) that
the fix will be useful for them as well. Concerning other latin languages:
Spanish, French, Italian, none of them have the acute-c character, so probably
few people will notice the change. On the contrary, French has the cedilla
character. They do not complain about that because their keyboard is totally
different (including letters interchanged) so are always out of their confort
zone when typing in any qwerty keyboard anyway.

Of course, there will be some people trying to type, for instance,
Serbian, with some keyboard, and they will need the accute-c letter.
However, as mentioned in some comment above, they will also need many
other letters that are not easy to type in the US keyboard anyway, so
preserving the accute-c for the Portuguese people will affect very, very
few people, and only in a very unusual way.

When typing in a US-international keyboard with dead-keys (or

typing 'c results in an accented c instead of a cedilla.

There is a workaround, which is editing the

  /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules

  file and changing the line

  "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk20" "/usr/share/locale"
  "az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa"

  to

  "cedilla" "Cedilla" "gtk20" "/usr/share/locale"
  "az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en"

(add the 'en' at the end).

However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the
change,
and we get back to the accented c. That means having to modify the file again,
  logout and login.

For me this is no problem. But for my brother, mom, dad, etc, it is always
something
that at least makes me less proud of having convinced them to use Ubuntu,
because
they don't know what to do each time this happens.

I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and that
would
be very easy), the inclusion of alternate layouts on install that for the
dead-key
options (as US-deadkey and UK-deakey), alternate layouts as
US-deadkey-cedilla.

This change is relevant for at least Portuguese and French.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-04-06 Thread Leandro
Dear Gunnar,

I think the "LC_TYPE" approach will solve much of the complains, because
I think most people installing Ubuntu will be physically located in
Brazil and will naturally choose the location as Brazil. If in that case
the cedilla will be typed as we expect it, that will be fine.

At the same time, when that does not happen, the fix will remain pretty
complicated to explain, and forcing someone to change the time-zone or
the display language (I understand those are the options) can be
frustrating. For example, for Brazilians living somewhere else this
might be strange. Also, when things do not work out as expected, I think
people will start looking for solutions and still will find them only in
this bug report, as the workaround will be very unatural.

Leandro.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 957879] Re: Wine tooltips don't disappear entirely from screen

2015-04-06 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
This also happens with NVIDIA drivers. I'm on Vivid fully updated and
using the 340 series drivers.

I tried using the SumatraPDF and tooltips don't dissapear completely and
in my case they also flash. However if I select text in the opened .pdf
or move my cursor over link in the webbrowser or this comment field the
tooltips dissapear so in my case it isn't permament.

Bug description:
This bug does not happen with Unity 2D or Gnome-Shell. Same problem on
  both Oneiric and Precise (up-to-date).

When a tooltip from a Wine app disappear, its shadow remains. This can
quickly leads to an unusable window.
To clean these shadows, I have to move the window.

I confirmed this bug with Mathcad 14, GeNIe and some others not-known
apps. It does not happen, for example, with VLC or Steam.

If you want to test with something free and lightweight, you can try
  with Sumatra: http://blog.kowalczyk.info/software/sumatrapdf/download-
  free-pdf-viewer.html

Attached is a picture of a rather extreme case (made with a non-free app).

Title:
Segfault on Install with Radeon + Intel iGPU both enabled

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
My system is an Intel i7 4770k on an asus Z87 WS motherboard with an
AMD R9 290X graphics card. With Intel iGPU enabled in the UEFI, the
  installer crashes.

I have 4 displays, 3 attached to the R9 290X and one attached to the
  onboard graphics.

I hit ctrl+alt+f1 and looked at /var/log/X.org.0 log and it indicated
a Segmentation fault. I was able to continue with the install by
unplugging all monitors but the primary monitor AND disabling the iGPU
in the UEFI. I was somewhat surprised that it was necessary to
completely disable the onboard graphics because in many OEM
configurations onboard and PCIe will be enabled for possible multi-
  monitor configurations.

After installing, apt-get update && apt-get upgrading the distro, I
installed the proprietary fglrx driver using software center, and that
  worked fine.

I re-enabled the iGPU however the system appears to hang hard. On two
of the displays (attached to the R9 290X) I can see the animated boot
screen, but ctrl+alt+f1 does not work, and the caps lock light does
not toggle if I hit capslock. No mouse cursor. I did not try ssh, but
the system did not respond to a 'tap' of the power button to shut it
  down.

I would be willing to experiment a bit here if someone can point me
the right way. I realize I might have to do some things at the command
line, but I wanted to bring this to your attention because I am not
sure enabling the iGPU should causes the system to become unusable.

I am using the official gnome variant of the 14.10 install USB stick.

I tried both "Try Ubuntu" and "Install Ubuntu" from the UEFI boot menu
and both options behave approximately the same way in terms of the
  Segfault.

This is a problem for ofono, as it always takes the first found
operator by default. This will be solved in the future as we will use
the Android APN DB instead of MBPI, and we will also provide a way to
edit the APN (see LP#1225174). However, for the moment we should move

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1387747] Re: No longer asks for passphrase, no access to private key

2015-04-06 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I use gpg key on a Yubikey Neo and this works correctly in Trusty,
Utopic and Vivid.

Make sure that in startup applications "GPG Password Agent, GNOME Keyring: GPG
Agent" is unchecked.
Clear custom changes to bashrc.
Logout, login.

Check that gpg-agent upstart user session job is running (In terminal, $
status gpg-agent)

Check environment is pointing at gpg agent, rather than anything else
(e.g. gnome-keyring etc) ( $ env | grep gpg )

** Changed in: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu)

/usr/bin/gpg (i.e., GPG 1, not GPG 2) as GPG path in Enigmail. My GPG
key is stored on a YubiKey Neo.

This has worked fine until yesterday. Yesterday, after the following
  update:

  gnome-keyring:amd64 3.10.1-1ubuntu4 -> 3.10.1-1ubuntu4.1

… Thunderbird/Enigmail no longer asks me for me passphrase when I open
an encrypted e-mail or when I try to sign an e-mail. Instead, I
directly see the error message "no private key available".

A downgrade to 3.10.1-1ubuntu4 and a reboot solves the problem.
Updating again to 3.10.1-1ubuntu4.1 makes the problem appear again.

There also have been a kernel update and an update of libykpers. Those
do nott seem to have caused the problem: Downgrading them (or booting
the older kernel) does not solve the problem. Only the downgrade of
  gnome-keyring solves it.

Still the same here, Ubuntu 14.04.2 Trusty Tahr. I can't believe this
bug is over two years old already. Is this harder to fix than it seems
on the surface? If so, why? Maybe somebody can help out.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1440642] Re: package libcuda1-331-updates (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: cannot copy extracted data for './usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcuda.so.331.113' to '/usr/lib/i

2015-04-06 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 998005] Re: Keyboard layout does not persist across connection

2015-04-06 Thread Stephan Hauser
I found a workaround for this. Open ~/.remmina/remmina.prefs and set

rdp_keyboard_layout=a409

The value a409 is for Colemak. If you want a different keyboard
layout you can find it on a Windows System in the registry under
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layouts.

You might need to re-apply this when changing preferences in remmina.

This works for me on 15.04, I haven't tested it on earlier Ubuntu
releases.
