[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1473777] [NEW] nvidia-331-updates 331.113-0ubuntu0.0.4: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1409190 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1409190 Public bug reported: I was trying to upgrade from nvidia-304 to nvidia-331-updates on Trusty. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1471560] Re: Laptop does not wake properly from suspend/sleep
I have narrowed down the problem. 1. I have deleted light-locker, updated all the packages and run ubuntu- tweak/janitor. The screen now always unblanks. 2. The mouse pointer issue remains. There are four ways of putting the laptop to sleep: 2.1 Letting it time-out and having the power manager suspend the machine. The mouse pointer restores OK 2.2 Using a menu item to suspend. The mouse pointer restores OK 2.3 Using fn-F4. The mouse pointer restores OK 2.4 Shutting the laptop lid. The mouse pointer does not restore. I have to use fn-F4/fn to get it back. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1471560 Title: Laptop does not wake properly from suspend/sleep Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I am running xfce4/lightdm/lihg-locker on ubuntu 14.04.2 The bug does not always manifest itself, but does so frequently. When waking from sleep/suspend I get the unlock screen but after entering my password the main display does not appear; it remains blanked. Sometimes re-suspending and re-waking the machine resolves the problem, but not always. Alternatively, the main screen does appear ut the mouse pointer is missing. I can tell where it ought to be by the highlighting of menu items. In this case re-sleep/re-waken has always resolved the problem. Sometimes I can get to a console seesion with ctl-alt-f1. In this case killing xfce4-session clears the problem, but after doing this a few times skype will not restart. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1453602] Re: mediatomb starts before network comes online
I've done some more investigating and identified the problem; I'm just not sure what the solution is. The problem is that nm decides the network is up as soon as there are no interfaces that still have work to be done ( such as obtaining a dhcp lease ). My e1000e interface comes up in the disconnected state, which nm considers to be an unusable state with no work to be done, and so it declares the network to be all set up. I'm not sure why, but it takes another 20 seconds for the e1000e to auto negotiate the 100 mbps link speed with my router, and then the link transitions to up, and nm starts trying to get a dhcp lease. I suppose I'm still wondering why it takes so long for the link to come up, but I guess the real problem is the fact that nm will consider networking to be up so long as there is no link yet. I'm thinking it needs patched to not consider the network up until at least one interface is actually functioning. Another possible fix is for mediatomb and any other services that depend on network to instead depend on ifup@eth0.service. ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1453602 Title: mediatomb starts before network comes online Status in mediatomb package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: mediatomb fails to start at boot because the network is not yet up. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1367825] Re: Intel i915 video driver causing random crashes on i7 Z77 system
I don't know if this is relevant - I have a very similar configuration to Paul (SZ77R5 with 32GB of RAM,i7-3770 instead of i7-3770K). His problem seems uncannily similar to the problem I have been having except that I am running Windows 8.1 (running VMs with VirtualBox). Attaching my screenshot. I have been updating my Intel drivers as hey are released. The only thing that has changed unfortunately is the pattern on the screen. Could this be a hardware issue with the SZ77R5 motherboard? The Linux VESA drivers are working for you because the VESA driver is not taking advantage of all the features available in the Intel graphics processor? ** Attachment added: Crash Picture https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1367825/+attachment/4428022/+files/IMG_20140430_135726.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1367825 Title: Intel i915 video driver causing random crashes on i7 Z77 system Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Release:14.04 apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-video-intel: Installed: (none) Candidate: 2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1.1 System: Shuttle XPC SZ77R5 with 32 GB of memory installed (x4 8GB matched kit of sticks). Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz Kernel: 3.13.0-35-generic #62-Ubuntu SMP I am experiencng random lock-ups/crashes when using this system and the i915 video driver is active. This results in a fully corrupted screen and no ability to do anything. The only remedy is to restart the system by holding down the power button. I have tried a number of different ideas from different bug reports but they all seem to be different regarding the i915 driver. The screen corruption can be seen in the attached grab. My last resort to see if it was this driver being responsible was to remove it from the system and make use of the regular vesa drivers. I have been using the vesa driver for a week now with no further crashes. All memory sticks are confirmed as good. I have maxed out the memory running 8 different virtual machines to prove to myself there wasn't a bad stick of memory. Also memtest86+ does not show any faults. This problem has been apparent from kernel 3.2.x right up to not with 3.13.x installed. At various points I did test with kernels from Liquorix to see if the problem was resolved (or in the kernel at all). The crashes have happened in Gnome and KDE with different window managers which suggests it's related to xserver (driver). The crashes can come at any time under any kind of load. Sometimes just scrolling a window or entering some text. The only constant seems to be that something on the screen has to change. If left alone with no interaction the machine would run just fine. I have used it remotely with X forwarding without problem. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 899878] Re: Software center have hardcoded colors and shows white font on white bg
I took some time to test out Matthews idea about the transparent stipple. I have attached some screen shots which show the stipple in different states: 1. The original 2. Transparent 3. Original with custom Adwaita CSS 4. Transparent with custom Adwaita CSS 5. Transparent with custom Adwaita CSS and 90% transparency drawn by Cairo (line 178 of catview.py). Default is 50%. When testing the transparent stipple with Adwaita, the text becomes more illegible. USC has support to load custom css based off the gtk-theme-name, which you can see in line 55 of utils.py. You can easily test the loading of the theme by opening USC and then changing it to something like highcontrast which has its on css file and this will change in real time. So if you use Numix you can provide a softwarecenter.numix.css. From what I can see for a workaround to use GTK theme colors, simply move softwarecenter.css out the way (softwarecenter.css.bak). The code currently looks for a softwarecenter.theme-name.css if that does not exist, it loads up the softwarecenter.css. If that does not exist as well it uses the styling from the GTK theme. Alternatively whip up your own CSS file for your favourite theme, or ask the author to create one for USC if you want USC to match the theme. I hope that helps a bits. I understand that this approach is for Adwaita, but no one has provided the theme name they use when they filed or commented on this bug report. So my next question is, what theme(s) are you using? ** Attachment added: Stipple Test Images https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/899878/+attachment/4427906/+files/stipple-test.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/899878 Title: Software center have hardcoded colors and shows white font on white bg Status in Ubuntu Software Center: Confirmed Status in Ubuntu GNOME: In Progress Status in software-center package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When using dark theme ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: software-center 5.0.2ubuntu0.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-13.22-generic 3.0.6 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-13-generic i686 ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Dec 4 15:28:41 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release i386 (20101007) PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/zsh SourcePackage: software-center UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to oneiric on 2011-10-16 (48 days ago) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/software-center/+bug/899878/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1455286] Re: Firefox appears horribly distorted after upgrade to 38.0
All I could find was an article at http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2015/05/firefox-38-arrives-with-tab-based- preferences-ruby-character-support which mentions near the end: Improved HiDPI on Linux, with scale now set by DPI (previously defaulted to 1). They don't really explain that and it seems to conflict with your comment that Firefox has been set to use the system default for a long time... since Trusty was installed on this system, actually. Prior to version 38, -1 had the same effect as the 1.0 setting you suggested. Perhaps that preference was actually ignored/overridden until Firefox 38? I don't know. I don't need to adjust the layout.css.devPixelsPerPx preference on my system. When I open a command prompt and type xdpyinfo | grep dots I get the result resolution:96x96 dots per inch. What do you get? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1455286 Title: Firefox appears horribly distorted after upgrade to 38.0 Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Today when I opened my package manager (muon) to check for updates, I saw there was an update for Firefox, to version 38. I installed this along with other available updates like I always do. Upon restarting Firefox, however, I discovered a nasty surprise. All of Firefox's UI was appearing as if I was on a computer with a much lower screen resolution, and web pages were appearing as if I had massively zoomed in on them. Everything looks many times bigger than it should be: icons, toolbars, tabs, menus, web pages, they're all big. I have no idea how or why this happened. I tried restarting Firefox in safe mode, wondering if it was maybe an incompatible add-on. This did absolutely nothing for me. I began to suspect that the update to Firefox 38 had caused the problem. So I decided to test my theory by downgrading. The only prior version in the repos appeared to be 28.x, but luckily, in my /var/cache/apt/archives/ folder, I found the .deb for the last version of Firefox I had installed - 37.0.2. I opened the .deb and installed it. Upon opening Firefox, everything was normal again -no abnormally large chrome or web pages. I ran the upgrade to Firefox 38 again, and bingo - the problem came back. I ran ubuntu-bug firefox to get Apport going, and then finished up by coming here to Launchpad to submit a report. Attached a screenshot to show the distortion. My computer's native resolution is 1920x1080, and that's what I run. I'll have to stick with 37.0.2 until I get some confirmation that this issue with Firefox 38 has been addressed/resolved. Firefox is unusable with this problem. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1270257] Re: NetworkManager failed to function after suspend and resume
Reconnecting wifi worked fine here until the system upgrade to 15.04 (vivid). Since then, after suspend and resume wifi does not work almost always. No wifi networks are shown in the network manager menu then, and I have to either switch networking completely off and on again, or select “connect to hidden nework…” and choose the desired SSID there. This is really annoying, and I'm thinking about switching to another distro because of this (and bug 1268257). But this happens only on an Acer Laptop, not on another one from Lenovo. $ lspci -v -s 4:0.0 04:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43228 802.11a/b/g/n Subsystem: Foxconn International, Inc.
