litimezonemap contains gtk3 widgets that are used in unity7's system

Bug description:
This is a wishlist bug to eventually remove GTK3 from Ubuntu Phone
  images to save some space.

  ===TODO===

  -- address-book-service --

address-book-service depends on evolution-data-server, which depends
on GTK3. evolution-data-server further depends on libgweather-3-6 and
libgcr-ui-3-1 which both directly depend on GTK3 too.

Would it be possible to work with libfolks-eds25 and other libraries
alone? Or would it be possible to modify evolution-data-server
building to not depend on GTK3 since we're not using the toolkit
  anyway?

  -- themes (unity-asset-pool, adwaita-icon-theme...) --

  humanity-icon-theme, ubuntu-mono and unity-asset-pool depend on
  adwaita-icon-theme. adwaita-icon-theme directly depends on GTK3.

  -- ubuntu-system-settings --

ubuntu-system-settings depends on libtimezonemap1 which directly
depends on GTK3. Maybe the library could be made not to depend on
  GTK3?

  ===DONE===
  -- gnome-control-center-signon --
Since libaccount-plugin-1.0-0 is included on Ubuntu Phone images, would it be
possible to refactor it so that it would not depend on GTK3 bringing it on the
images?

Status in remmina package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am using 12.10 with the latest versions from the main repositories
loaded. I moved from Unity to gnome-shell as remmina was unusable
  under Unity with two monitors

  Description: Ubuntu 12.10

  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  3) I expect that moving the mouse to the upper left in gnome-shell
with remmina in full screen will cause the open applications to do a
dashboard effect and allow me to select the application that I want to
  use

  4) reminna does not seem to notice the mouse is over the area of the
screen that should display the dashboard effect. However, moving to
the bottom of the screen in the middle displays the taskbar for gnome-
  shell as it should.

  HOW TO REPRODUCE:
    1. Boot a laptop.
    2. Set a different screen (or keyboard) backlight brightness level.
    3. Reboot.

  RESULT:
    Backlight is not memorized.

  FIX:
    A. For Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and 14.04 LTS install my package from PPA
  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nrbrtx/sysvinit-backlight
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get install sysvinit-backlight

  NOTES:
  1. If you have installed previous non-deb version, please remove it
carefully manually
    sudo rm /etc/rc?.d/?25backlight /etc/init.d/brightness
/etc/rc?.d/?25brightness
      2. If you have installed previous version from my PPA on Ubuntu 14.04,
please reinstall the package by:
    sudo apt-get purge sysvinit-backlight
    sudo apt-get install sysvinit-backlight
  3. Version 0.1ubuntu1 supports save/restore of keyboard backlight too.

    B. Ubuntu 14.10 is near EOL (really in July 2015), so users should upgrade
it to Ubuntu 15.04 (see C below).
My script seems to be incompatible with this Ubuntu version - remove it
with
    sudo apt-get purge sysvinit-backlight
    sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:nrbrtx/sysvinit-backlight

    C. Ubuntu 15.04 has systemd-backlight@.service. It saves and restores
screen and keyboard backlight levels.
My script is incompatible with this Ubuntu version.

  To reproduce:
  sudo adduser --encrypt-home test123
  sudo adduser test124

ssh in as both users created above, run passwd and change the
password. Have not tested behaviour without ecryptfs-utils installed,
but it should be unrelated since both encrypted and unencrypted
  homedirs behaved the same.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1362475] Re: 14.04 unity-greeter crash

2015-08-22 Thread Fabounet
Same here, on an up-to-date 14.04.
The bug report can't be sent, and using apport-retrace from a terminal I get:
 apport-retrace --gdb /var/crash/_usr_sbin_unity-greeter.1002.crash
ERROR: report file does not contain one of the required fields: CoreDump
DistroRelease Package ExecutablePath

it's not critical since I can log-in, but still is annoying because of
the popup (and may hide a more serious problem).

Title:
Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

Status in Nautilus:
  Confirmed
Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
First time I use an USB drive since I updated to 12.04 and I found a
really annoying bug on Nautilus. Nautilus claims that the destination
drive is read-only when in fact it is not.

  How to reproduce:

  1. Connect a USB stick drive to your competer.
  2. The USB will appear in the desktop.
  3. Open two Nautilus windows one in your home folder, other in the USB stick
drive.
  4. Select any file from your home folder (small enough to fit the free space
in the USB drive)
  5. Drag the file and drop it in the USB drive window.

-- Nautilus will say that it cannot copy the file because the
  destination is read ony --

If you try the copy the same file with the terminal you will see that
the file is copied without problem, other programs like gedit or
LibreOffice can write in the usb stick drive just fine.

It is not a problem with the USB stick, as shown here:

But nautilus just dennies to copy the file claming that the
destination is read only, when it is not.

I tested it with two different USB sticks in two different computers
running Ubuntu 12.04 and the same result.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 738063] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon assertion failures when changing password remotely

2015-08-22 Thread dino99
Nobody else but you have reported that issue ; you are the only one affected.
So i wonder if you are using that system since the Lucid installation (or even
before) and have made lots of dist-upgrading ?

It shoulb be helpfull to know which kind of formatted partition are used.
Are you able to reproduce that issue with a fresh installation ?

As you can see , the bug team have not paid attention to that report
because you only are affected, and the report as not been made using
ubuntu-bug via apport.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1487702] [NEW] [SATELLITE C50-B, Realtek ALC233, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch

2015-08-22 Thread Franko Burolo
Public bug reported:

It is a Toshiba Satellite C50-B-15N to be precise. It has a single combo plug,
and Ubuntu fails to switch to the headset microphone when a combo jack is
plugged in.
Sometimes even the output fails switching to phones, but it only happens very
seldom, and after a reboot it works fine again. But the mic just never ever
switches, only the laptop's built-in one is always working.

I am using an up to date Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet with Unity and
standard audio set-up. I haven't (yet) change anything audio-related. I
have started this bug with apport, so I believe most of these details
are reported there.

Probably a different bug, but it could be related: The built-in mic is
stereo, but only its left side is actually working, as a normal single-
channel mic. The right side is deaf.

Let me know if you need other info.

Thanks!

  New

Bug description:
It is a Toshiba Satellite C50-B-15N to be precise. It has a single combo
plug, and Ubuntu fails to switch to the headset microphone when a combo jack is

I have started this bug with apport, so I believe most of these
  details are reported there.

Probably a different bug, but it could be related: The built-in mic is
stereo, but only its left side is actually working, as a normal
single-channel mic. The right side is deaf.

Let me know if you need other info.

  Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

2015-08-22 Thread Jonathan Anderson
And it just got really interesting. After fighting this issue for hours,
I gave up and resolved to copying by terminal.

By force of habit, I accidently used nautilus once more to copy, after copying
a batch of files by terminal, and presto, it works.
Nautilus now copies files without complaining.
I don't understand what happens here.
Some cache of file / partition permissions that went old and was refreshed?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1445039] Re: Device '/dev/video0' is busy

2015-08-22 Thread Joshua Coats
I ran into the same problem, and checked out the permissions on
/dev/video0:

crw-rw+ 1 root video 81, 0 Aug 22 11:14 /dev/video0

I also ran $(groups) to check my group membership and found that I
wasn't in the group video. To rectify this, I ran $(sudo usermod -a -G
video `whoami`), and after logging out and back in, I could use cheese
normally again.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1487168] Re: [Emulated AD1980 AC97 inside Virualbox 5.0, playback] volume slider problem

2015-08-22 Thread Raymond
bit 5 LOSEL

LINE_OUT Amplifiers Input Select.
This bit allows the LINE_OUT output amplifiers to be driven by the mixer or the
surround DACs. The main purpose for this is to allow swapping of the front and
surround channels to make better use of the SURR/HP_OUT output amplifiers. This
bit should normally be used in tandem with the HPSEL bit (see below).

0 = LINE_OUT amplifiers are driven by the mixer outputs (reset default).
1 = LINE_OUT amplifiers are driven by the surround DAC outputs.

Bug description:
It is a Toshiba Satellite C50-B-15N to be precise. It has a single combo
plug, and Ubuntu fails to switch to the headset microphone when a combo jack is

I have started this bug with apport, so I believe most of these
  details are reported there.

Probably a different bug, but it could be related: The built-in mic is
stereo, but only its left side is actually working, as a normal
single-channel mic. The right side is deaf.

Let me know if you need other info.

  Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1487819] [NEW] Wily user UI shows auto-login off after selecting on during install

2015-08-22 Thread Erick Brunzell
Public bug reported:

Just testing Ubuntu GNOME Wily 20150822 i386 and I've noticed that in
spite of selecting auto-login = on during installation when the
installation is complete and after first boot opening Settings Users
the UI shows off, but auto-login is working properly and if you toggle

2015-08-22 Thread Raymond
0:76 = 7c20

Miscellaneous Control Bit Register (Index 76h)

bit14 AC97NC

AC ’97 No Compatibility Mode.
This bit allows the surround, center, and LFE volume control registers and
output attenuators to operate in a more functional mode than defined by the
AC97 2.2 spec. This is called ADI compatibility mode. In AC ’97 compatibility
mode, the DAC Gain/Attenuators for the surround, center, and LFE are controlled
by Register 18h (PCM volume). The output pin attenuators for the surround are
controlled by Register 38h, and the output pin attenuators for the center and
LFE are controlled by Register 36h. In ADI compatibility mode, the Surround DAC
Gain/Attenuators are controlled by Register 38h, and the Center/ LFE DAC are
controlled by Register 36h. The output pin attenuators for Center/LFE are
controlled by Register 02h (Master Volume), and the output pin attenuators for
Surround are controlled by Register 04h.

0 = AC97 compatibility mode (reset default).
1 = ADI compatibility mode.

  problem

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in virtualbox package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Volume Slider is only controlling PCM channel and is not controlling
Master. In effect, Master is restricting the audio level to the
default of approximately 45 Percent. In order to raise the Master
Volume Level, alsamixer is capable of changing Master. Without
manually raising Master to Max Volume, Volume Slider can only control
volume from 0-45% which is the default level of Master.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1487702] Re: [SATELLITE C50-B, Realtek ALC233, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch

2015-08-22 Thread Franko Burolo
I have tried adding options snd-hda-intel model=dell-headset-multi to
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. Sound settings seem to recognize a headset is
plugged with that option, but the headset's mic itself remains deaf, no matter
how much boost I give it. I guess the option isn't working correctly, because,
obviously, I am not running a Dell laptop, but also because I am running the
Realtek ALC233 codec, and that option model is only listed as working on codecs
ALC269/270/275/276/28x/29x and ALC66x/67x/892.
I am talking about this list:
http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-kernel.git;a=blob;f=Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt;hb=HEAD
Funny thing is that ALC233 is not listed there at all... Anyway, it seems like,
for now, the closest I could get to make a headset working was with that
Dell-related option. I hope that helps.

Title:
[SATELLITE C50-B, Realtek ALC233, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
It is a Toshiba Satellite C50-B-15N to be precise. It has a single combo
plug, and Ubuntu fails to switch to the headset microphone when a combo jack is

I have started this bug with apport, so I believe most of these
  details are reported there.

Probably a different bug, but it could be related: The built-in mic is
stereo, but only its left side is actually working, as a normal
single-channel mic. The right side is deaf.

Let me know if you need other info.

  Thanks!

Workaround: at boot, press F2 to get into BIOS, then set trackpad to Basic
instead of Advanced.
This even lets you scroll with a two-fingered gesture, and changes the output

cat /proc/bus/input/devices to:

Title:
[SATELLITE C50-B, Realtek ALC233, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
It is a Toshiba Satellite C50-B-15N to be precise. It has a single combo
plug, and Ubuntu fails to switch to the headset microphone when a combo jack is

I have started this bug with apport, so I believe most of these
  details are reported there.

Probably a different bug, but it could be related: The built-in mic is
stereo, but only its left side is actually working, as a normal
single-channel mic. The right side is deaf.

Let me know if you need other info.

  Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1487168] Re: [Emulated AD1980 AC97 inside Virualbox 5.0, playback] volume slider problem

2015-08-22 Thread Raymond
bit12 LODIS

Line_out Disable.
Disables the Line_out pins (L/R), placing them into High-Z mode so that the
assigned output audio jack can be shared for Line Input function.

0 = Line_out pins have normal audio drive capability (reset default).
1 = Line_out pins are placed into High-Z mode.

linout is disabled if it is a real ad1980
as your emulauted ad1980 does not has headphone out

manually raising Master to Max Volume, Volume Slider can only control

Title:
Wily user UI shows auto-login off after selecting on during install

Status in gdm package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Just testing Ubuntu GNOME Wily 20150822 i386 and I've noticed that in
spite of selecting auto-login = on during installation when the
installation is complete and after first boot opening Settings Users
the UI shows off, but auto-login is working properly and if you toggle
the UI back and forth from off to on a couple of times it seems to
  start working properly.

  I also installed Ubuntu 20150822 i386 and it's not affected so I
suspect this is either a bug in gdm or possibly in g-c-c or g-s-d.

update-manager failing to install anything in saucy

Status in update-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
In saucy, update-manager is completely failing to install any
packages. It auto-launches and presents me the list of packages to
install; but when I click 'Install now', the window closes and update-
manager exits. Running u-m from the console shows there are no error
messages and the process exits 0.

  If I run update-manager without the '--no-update' flag, I'm given a
  dialog saying:

You are not allowed to perform this action

You don't have the required privileges to perform this action.

   Settings Try AgainOK

This suggests that there is probably a policykit issue here. However,
that issue isn't going to resolve itself, so update-manager needs to
notify the user of the problem instead of silently exiting.
