[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1520568] Re: All queries fails : ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

2015-11-29 Thread dino99
@Bryan

like your tests, i get that issue with chromium & midori browsers when google
is used:
- no problem with duckduckgo
- no problem with 'ssllabs.com' (http://www. auto-completion works)

- i have not tested with other browsers

so its seems affects 'google' use only

** Summary changed:

- All queries fails : ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR
+ All queries fails when 'google' is used: ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1292451] Re: screensaver re-locks itself after unlocking if the configured screen-off timer goes off while screen is locked

2015-11-29 Thread Elias Hasle
I run Lubuntu Wily (upgraded from previous version), and I consistently
have the problem that the screen re-locks once after being unlocked.

I have opened the "Light Locker Settings" from the user preferences
menu. It refers to the xfce power manager for setting screensaver
settings. At the same time it seems the Light Locker Settings duplicate
the screen lock settings of said power manager. They were both
configured for the same locking behaviour, so maybe they just do the job
twice every time?

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Set screen-off timeout to 1 minute
  2. Configure screen to lock immediately when screen goes off.
  3. Lock screen manually (Ctrl+Alt+L)
  4. Wait for 1 minute
  5. Notice that screen doesn't turn off
  6. Unlock screen
  7. Wait a couple of seconds (~10 or so)
  8. Notice that screen re-locks itself.
  9. Repeat steps 6-7 and notice that the screen doesn't re-lock itself this
time.

There are two bugs described here:
  1. Screen does not shut off if the screen is locked manually before the idle
timer (see step 5).
  2. Screen re-locks itself after unlocking if the idle timer goes off while
the screen is locked (see step 7).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1520899] [NEW] I have settings "new windows use default source(eng)" but lock screen has rus input source

2015-11-29 Thread TyhDyh
Public bug reported:

Has two input sources en, ru.
Set english as default.
Set "allow different sources for each window" and "new windows use default
source"
Run app(chrome/chromium/nautilus) and switch source eng-rus-eng-rus
close lid
open lid
lock screen will show after few seconds with rus input source
correct behavior: lock screen will show immediately with eng input source

This is very annoying bug from 12.04 because I need switch input source
to eng after open lid.

Some time It reproduce when you select lock screen from menu or press
win+l, ctrl+alt+l some time not. Some time it doesn't reproduce when
chrome minimazed. But when I open lid I always need switch to eng to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1470862] Re: When using fglrx module, the virtual consoles are blank and useless

2015-11-29 Thread NicDumZ
Summarizing:

(1) This is affecting at least 15.04 and 15.10

(2) tty consoles are 'functional' but blacked out (if you log in
blindly, go back to destkop, and try `who`, there is a tty session
running)

(3) removing fglrx drivers is some sort of workaround, but presumably
people that did install fglrx in the first place want fglrx for some
reason ;-)

(4) common workarounds for these sort of issues usually involve changing
grub configs. I've tried a few things, and it seems that others did,
too. At this point I'm not aware of an easy grub tweak that unblanks tty
consoles. Please post if you have something, I'd like to try.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5

2015-11-29 Thread Florian Sievers
For users that still get a blackscreen on startup, try disable the
bootsplash screen. That fixed it for me. Boot into recovery, remount
your disk to be able to write to it. Remove 'splash' from the command
line in /etc/default/grub and do an update-grub. After the next reboot,
you should be able to see the login screen with the propertery driver.

Bug description:
  SRU Request:

  [Impact]

The fglrx driver is not compatible with gcc 5.x. This causes the
kernel module to crash on initialisation. As a result, users will boot
into a black screen, as X will fail (except on Intel+AMD hybrid
  systems, where intel is used).

  [Test Case]
  1. Either install (or upgrade to) Ubuntu 15.10 and fglrx
  2. Reboot
  3. Check the display, and the output of the "dmesg | grep fglrx" command (to
see the actual crash)

Expected results: the system should be able to start X correctly.

  Actual results:
The kernel module fails and X doesn't start.

  [Regression Potential]
Low. Forcing fglrx to use gcc 4.9 is only a temporary workaround, and will be
replaced with the proper fix once AMD makes it available.

With a R9 280 and FGLRX on ubuntu 15.10 the graphics lock up. I am

using xserver-xorg-video-radeon I am able to get the graphics working,

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1376609] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in bacon_video_widget_properties_set_has_type()

2015-11-29 Thread Vindicator
Same thing for me in Wily.
I am in the middle of transcoding an audio/video file that already had messed
up data (timestamps, "past duration", whatever).
I'm guessing that since the video source and destination folders are open in
Nautilus, thumbnail (re)creation is being attempted for the output file and it
didn't like a sample location. Only a guess.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1520933] [NEW] Lightdm should show login on active monitor

2015-11-29 Thread Reuben Firmin
Public bug reported:

I have a laptop with a small screen, and a large monitor that I use
while at home. If I plug in the monitor from boot and close the laptop
lid, I'll see the entire boot process on the large monitor; however,
when lightdm fires up, it displays the login widgetry on the (closed)
laptop monitor.

It should be enhanced to detect that the primary monitor is not active,
and display on the secondary monitor if this is the case.

Of course, the library file could also be installed straight into

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1520958] [NEW] lightdm suspend/lock issues

2015-11-29 Thread Christopher Rogers
Public bug reported:

Video of the problems: https://youtu.be/T9g86OZl4DU

In the video, you'll see:
1) I un-check "Require my password when waking from suspend" in "Brightness &
Lock" settings
2) Suspend/Resume works fine
3) I check "Require my password when waking from suspend" and Suspend again
4) Waking up from suspend gives me a white screen
5) Clicking in the upper left reveals that I am at the lock screen (I can see
the reduced set of indicators)
6) Selecting "Switch accounts" takes me to a functional lock screen
7) I suspend again
8) Upon resuming to a white screen, I enter my password blindly, and am able to
unlock successfully
9) I lock my computer (lock screen is a bit glitchy)
10) I suspend from the lock screen
11) I resume, and am at the (slightly glitched) lockscreen
12) Entering my password unlocks the screen

Note that the visual glitches (whitescreen, broken password prompt)
aren't always the same, however, the problem reproduces in the same way
regardless. For example, sometimes, rather than a white screen, I see a
partial version of my desktop. Clicking the indicators, however, reveals
that I am actually at the lock screen, and the same processes of typing
blindly or switching accounts work fine.

For easy reference, I am running a fully up-to-date version of Ubuntu
15.10. If it's relevant, I am using the open source nvidia drivers (have
not yet tried this with the proprietary drivers).

Title:
Not working network connection after boot

Status in NetworkManager:
  Confirmed
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Directly after boot the network connections are not working. I am
connected and have an IP address, but I cannot establish a connection
  with any Internet server.

I have the impression it is related to thee DNS lookup, which waits
  forever for a result.

Cycling the connection (disconnect->reconnect) seems to fix the
  problem for some time.

I am reporting this against network-manager, but I am not sure if it is
directly in network manager or if it is systemd related.
  With 14.10 everything worked perfectly.

None of the solutions above work for me. I don't have a dock, just the
headset jack on T440p.

  Confirmed

Bug description:
Sounds works fine through the internal speakers, but once I plug a
headset or headphones (I tried two things, in case one was broken) in
to the audio out, I get nothing.

Looking in alsamixer, plugging the headset in mutes the 'Speaker'
output and unmutes the 'Headphone' output, and restores the Master
volume to its previous headset-in value. Unplugging the headset does
the opposite (mutes 'Headphone'; unmutes 'Speaker'), as I would
  expect.

This was working on vivid, so a definite regression, I think.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1508638] Re: Build with multiarch support

2015-11-29 Thread Martin Pitt
TBH it'd be better to entirely drop it, at least out of main. This
ancient non-GI version of pygobject has been unmaintained and dead at
least since 2011. It's not on the desktop images any more, but
apparently still a build dependency of e. g. dbus and others.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1448563] Re: terminal won't launch with a customized locale

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1448563

Title:
terminal won't launch with a customized locale

Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Yesterday I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet", and I couldn't
launch a gnome-terminal. Shift+Ctrl+T didn't seem to do anything, nor
did typing "terminal" into the dash. Fortunately, xterm still worked.
Typing "ps aux" (into an xterm terminal) revealed a few instances
  marked "defunct".

The problem turns out to be my custom locale. (I didn't discover this
myself, except by using Google.) I typed "LANG=en_US.UTF-8" into my
xterm terminal, and then "gnome-terminal &", and then I had a gnome-
  terminal running.

This bug should be fairly easy to replicate once a custom locale has
been installed. I'll attach my custom locale file "rob_custom" to
this bug, which could be used for testing the bug. (My locale is
based on en_US.UTF-8 but uses 24-hour time, -MM-DD dates, and the
  metric system.)

To install the custom locale, go to
  http://lh.2xlibre.net/help/install_locale/ and download the
"install_locale.py" script. The first line of the script will need to
be changed from ""#!usr/bin/env python" to "#!/usr/bin/python", and
the script will need to be made executable of course. Download the
"rob_custom" file from this bug, and put it in
  /usr/share/i18n/locales/ . Then run "install_locale.py
  /usr/share/i18n/locales/rob_custom", which should successfully install
  the locale.

Installing the locale won't make it your default locale. To change
the locale temporarily, change the LANG environment variable, i.e.
  "LANG=rob_custom.UTF-8".

The attachment to this bug consists of a .zip file composed of two
files: my custom locale "rob_custom", and a simple program file
locale-test.c, which can be compiled with the command "gcc -o locale-
test locale-test.c". The program displays the date and time strings
according to the installed locale, which is useful for testing whether
the locale has been changed successfully.

sudo password.

Work-around: in a shell window, set a root password using "sudo passwd

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: system-config-printer

If you go to System->Administration->Printing and try and add printers
without being in the Configure Printers group, the applet asks for the
  root account and root password.

This is obviously not workable on Ubuntu where root has "no" password
and the ideal situation is to use [gk]sudo or so to elevate
  privileges.

If the user is not in the Printers group then he should be asked to
enter the administration (sudo) password and not try and be root if
possible. If root account and permissions are required (i.e. sudo is
not enough) then the dialog should notify the user that they should
enable it in Users & Groups rather than asking for a password which
  does not exist by default.

After some research I found that linux kernel internally has lists of

But it looks like after suspend/resume some request may be lost (may

There is simple workaround. After preceding IOCTL_USB_DISCARDURB call

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1366241] Re: [P35V2, Realtek ALC282, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all after laptop suspended

2015-11-29 Thread kevin
Same exact symptoms on my gigabyte P35x v4. I fiddled around with audio
settings forever before I found (from this thread) that I could mute and
raise the volume from there. At least it is workable for now but I
subscribed to this bug.

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Speaker audio no longer works after suspend and resume on my laptop.
The sound icon in the desktop sound settings does not appear muted and
toggling the mute setting does not restore the speaker audio.
*However* I can restore speaker audio by muting the audio and then
increasing the audio volume from a muted state. This works when using
the audio function keys on my laptop, I haven't tried achieving the
same thing through the GUI. Strangely simply toggling mute doesn't
restore speaker audio, neither does just fiddling with volume, I have
to increase the volume from a muted state.

Additionally headphone audio doesn't appear to have any problems, it
continues to work after a suspend.

2015-11-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1521042] [NEW] Custom key combination doesn't work on reassigning with system default shortcut

2015-11-29 Thread pangolin
Public bug reported:

I found one bug on Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS.

How to reproduce:
1. Go to and click on / tab.

2. Navigate to and then you can add new custom shortcuts
following as:
 for evince
l for gedit

3. In this case, you can see the dialog which prompts the "The shortcut
is already used for Lock Screen/ Log out. If you reassign the shortcut
to gedit/evince, the Lock Screen/Log out shortcut will be disabled."

4. Once you click on the "reassign" button, you can just try to use
custom key combinations such as ,l in
order to run application.

It doesn't work.

Expected result:
Applications should be run upon click of custom key combinations such as
,l.

Bug description:
Yesterday I noticed that my Internet connection keeps transferring a lot of
data. After a while I checked with nethogs and discovered this was caused by
Thunderbird.
Today I got a warning that my HDD was near full.
In this 2 days, the mailbox had grown to 20 GB, while in reality it should be
around 1 GB (a fresh zipped backup has 600 MB).

I removed the .thunderbird folder and configured my IMAP mailbox from
scratch. The same happened again.
I think this is not related to a somehow special configuration of my PC bcs
my colleague discovered it's the same on his machine. Without checking, he
wouldn't have noticed yet bcs of a much bigger HDD...

We couldn't yet find out what exactly happens / which data is transferred
again and again.
I suspect it's related to the last thunderbird update.

Title:
LibreOffice has serious kerning issues with characters' display of
  font, bold, italic

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I run in to distorted text in LibreOffice, depending on zoom level. At
first I thought it was a LO-bug, but now I have found that I don't get
this issues when I run the AMD proprietary driver (fglrx). So I think
it might be a problem in the xserver-xorg-video-ati driver. I have a
Radeon HD 8600M series in a Lenovo S540.

The attached file shows an example of the bug that I had in Calc. The
bottom right is the 'normal' text. Three lines, with the bottom one in
bold. Depending on the zoom level, the text is distorted in many ways:
bold / italic / font (appearance).

  Some extra information:
-This happens in all LO-apps I use: Calc, Writer, Impress.
-I don't have a clear way of reproducing it. The apps normally start out
perfectly fine. After a while this can happen, not always. Risk factors seem to
include having multiple LO-files open, especially between different apps.
-It is not always that the 100% zoom level is ok. That can be distorted too.
-This never ever happens in any other app / program I use.

If this is unlikely to be caused by the xserver-xorg-video-ati driver,
I apologize for reporting it here. If you need additional information,
please let me know, I will be happy to provide.

  Required info:
  1) Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
  2) xserver-xorg-video-ati Installed: 1:7.3.0-1ubuntu3.1

  nautilus segfault with gnome-session-wayland

  This is on 16.04, `update-manager -d` from 15.10 ubuntugnome.

It didn't start. I tried to start it from the shell and just got:

  $ nautilus

I installed the wayland, libx11 and nautilus dbg packages and ran gdb:

  $ gdb nautilus

The dialog states in the first section "This feature can't be enabled

should instead provide a button to install whatever the system is
missing or at least name the packages that I need to install manually.
