[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1527944] Re: Youtube video distorted and only outlines (HTML5) on v47

2015-12-28 Thread Rainbow
Same here for different WebRTC websites, like appr.tc or jitsi.org.
Opened a WebRTC call with Chromium v43 or v45 and it worked, with v47 I obtain
the result in the attached screenshot:

Title:
Youtube video distorted and only outlines (HTML5) on v47

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm a reporting a bug which is present in v47, not v45 or any earlier
versions. I'm installing chromium onto Raspbian, but upon further
tests this affects a full Ubuntu 15.10 system as well. Also notable,
this is on the Raspberry Pi 2, a ARMv7 system (armhf).

When viewing a youtube video, the picture comes out as only outlines
and distorted. Pictures and a small discussion can be found here.
  https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63=121195=100

This is with HTML5 video viewing, all options checked. As I said
before, this works perfectly on v45, playing a video smoothly, yet
such a picture gets produced on v47.

did you update the callback? GtkButton wont have an activate-link
signal.

"Input Sources" button looks really out of place in Keyboard settings

Status in Ubuntu GNOME:
  Confirmed
Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
I am running Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 with GNOME 3.18 and I have recently
noticed that in the gnome-control-center, at the bottom in the
KeyBoard section there is a button which says "Input Sources":
  Input_Sources_Out_Of_Place_Button.png

Though this button is only text, so actually not very obviously a
button and in fact looks quite out of place, until I clicked it and it
took me somewhere else I didn't really know what it was... The only
time that a button like outline actually appeared around it was when I
clicked it and that was only brief. So I really think that you should
firstly make this button look more like a button (e.g.: add a boarder
round it), and secondly actually put it somewhere on the page where it
doesn't look just completely out of place, I don't know, maybe
somewhere at the top or something, but it just looks odd and out of
  place where it currently is...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 830348] Re: desktop contents briefly visible on resume from suspend before lock dialog

I have Ubuntu 15.10 on my laptop and this is still happening.
Unfortunately solution above didn't help.

  Incomplete
Status in unity-2d package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This seems like a recent regression on Oneiric (or perhaps I haven't
  noticed it before):

On resume from suspend, the contents of the desktop are often briefly
visible before being hidden behind the lock screen. This is a
security problem if there happens to be sensitive information on the
  screen.

  =Analysis from mdeslaur=
  This is likely what happens:

1- Something grabs mouse: ie: virtual machine window, or GTK menu in an
application or an indicator
2- Screensaver attempts to start, but cannot get exclusive lock on mouse
  3- DPMS turns monitor black
4- User moves mouse, which turns the screen back on
5- Mouse movement causes mouse to get ungrabbed by vm window or gtk menu
6- Screensaver can now grab mouse, and starts

This is all related to the fact that X does not have an API that will
let the screensaver tell an application to release mouse and keyboard
  grabs.

Bug description:
  Dear all,

This bug report is in direct reference to the conversation at
  bugzilla.gnome.org [1].

There I was told that the GTK File Chooser dialog has a function under
"Recently Used" to directly access the source folder.

However, in Ubuntu 15.10 I cannot find this option.

Is this function not available yet because Ubuntu 15.10 uses a
  different version of GTK?

Is this function thus something that will be available in future
  Ubuntu releases?

  Thankfully,

  ~ Robert

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1529612] [NEW] Xorg server randomly hangs without response

2015-12-28 Thread alex
Public bug reported:

Xorg server handomly hangs in unknown conditions.

How to reproduce: dont know. Just hangs randomly. It is likely more
often when playing youtube video in chromium-browser.

Conditions: bug was in Unity session and in OpenBox as well, so it is
not a Unity bug. Bug is also reproducible with `startx`, mean launching
X session not wih display manager but login in console and run `startx`.

How it looks like: screen just hangs, but the mouse cursor is moving. No
one window react to mouse clicks or key press. Global keys (window
managaer's) don't work also. The only way to switch to anouther tty,
login as root and restart display manager.

How to reproduce: dont know. Just hangs randomly. It is likely more
often when playing youtube video in chromium-browser.

Conditions: bug was in Unity session and in OpenBox as well, so it is
not a Unity bug. Bug is also reproducible with `startx`, mean

How it looks like: screen just hangs, but the mouse cursor is moving.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 830348] Re: desktop contents briefly visible on resume from suspend before lock dialog

2015-12-28 Thread Daniel Stoni
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1280300 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1280300

Same observed here with 15.10. I consider this as a security concern, too. You
may try:
   gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver ubuntu-lock-on-suspend 'true'
It worked for me
Kind regards

Status in Compiz:

Status in unity-2d:

Status in gnome-screensaver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in unity-2d package in Ubuntu:

This is all related to the fact that X does not have an API that will
let the screensaver tell an application to release mouse and keyboard
  grabs.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1510970] Re: Intel driver crashes on Ubuntu 15.10

2015-12-28 Thread Felix
The "uxa" #52 workaround helped me with starting games from steam again.

Maybe this helps with reproducing the bug: Constant crashes ocurred
while starting the game "screencheat" on Ubuntu 15.10, amd64.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1525402] Re: "Input Sources" button looks really out of place in Keyboard settings

2015-12-28 Thread Robert Hönig
Hey Tim,
so I got the following problem:
The input sources button is a linkbutton, which is not changeable into a
normal button without loosing its ability to open the other panel.
However, it seems to be not possible to change the design of this
linkbutton to make it look like a normal button. I asked on
StackOverflow how to do this, here is the link:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/34495313/set-the-style-of-gtklinkbuttons
But maybe you can help me earlier/better :)

Title:

Support running X as an unprivileged user.

Currently X servers are run as root means a large complex process has
access to services it might not need (i.e. potential security and
stability problems). It would be nice to run each X server as either
an unprivileged user or in the session they are being used in.

Logind provides a system for sharing access to the display and input
devices so this can be done - this seems like the most likely
  implementation of non-root X.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1529624] [NEW] Lenovo E50-80 inverted microphone not detected properly

2015-12-28 Thread Andrzej Mendel
Public bug reported:

System: Lenovo E50-80 with Ubuntu 15.10. Tested with both kernel
4.2.0-22-generic from official repos and 4.4.0-040400rc6-generic from
Mainline Kernel repo.

Alsa information: http://www.alsa-
project.org/db/?f=3088f82a0cf977855f92af9db8ad406c04f71efa

Internal microphone does not pick up sound by default. When I mute one
channel, it works (this is not a good workaround since some application,
such as Facebook Messenger, unmute both channels and set them to the
same level automatically).

Adding model=inv-dmic to snd-hda-intel module options does not change a
thing.

Hope that helps, tell me if you need more info.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 36413] Re: Drag-drop column ordering

2015-12-28 Thread fossfreedom
I've done some out-of-tree work here via my plugin alternative-toolbar.

If anybody is interested then install via git on my project -
https://github.com/fossfreedom/alternative-toolbar

Hopefully those that have sufficient interest will rework this as a
proper C patch for rhythmbox itself.

cheers

Title:
[meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is a metabug for all machines that are having phase inverted
  internal microphones.

If your internal mic is either completely silent (no signal), or you
can possibly pick a very small sound, with much background noise, even
though you have set gain to maximum, there is something you could try.

Install the pavucontrol application, start it and go to the "Input Devices"
tab. Unlock the channels (there is a keylock icon), then mute the right channel
while keeping the left channel at the volume you want.
If the internal mic is now working correctly, you have an inverted internal
mic, so that your right channel cancels out the left one.

(If you're not running PulseAudio, you can try doing the same through
AlsaMixer instead (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/Alsamixer ), try
changing "Capture" level or "Internal Mic" or "Internal Mic Boost"
  using the Q,E,Z,C keys.)

If so, please file a separate bug against the alsa-driver for your
issue, make sure hardware info gets attached to it (either alsa-info
as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo or the standard ones
that follows when you do "ubuntu-bug alsa-driver" ), then write a
comment in this bug, with your machine name and a pointer to the other
  bug.

As time permits, I'll try to work on fixing them for the next Ubuntu release.
Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 253167] Re: Rhythmbox sort by "Album Artist" for guest/compilations

2015-12-28 Thread Ben Olson
This bug was first noticed in 2008, and it is now 7 years later, near
the end of 2015, and it still hasn't been resolved. Rhythmbox is the
default music player for the GNOME desktop, and I simply can't use it
without this bug being resolved. I'll try to poke through the source
and see what needs to be done to resolve it.

Rhythmbox sort by "Album Artist" for guest/compilations

Status in Rhythmbox:
  Confirmed
Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

For guest artists on an album or compilations Apple allows definition
of an album artist and artist for each track. Rhythmnbox only allows
browsing by track artists so many artists appear listed with only one
  track.

  Example, Red Book by Texas:

  1. 036 - Texas
  2. Getaway - Texas
  3. Can't Resist - Texas
  4. What About Us - Texas
  5. Cry - Texas
  6. Sleep - Texas featuring Paul Buchanan
  7. Get Down Tonight - Texas
  8. Nevermind - Texas
  9. Bad Weather - Texas
  10. Master Thief - Texas
  11. Just Holding On - Texas
  12. Red Book - Texas

The sixth track has artist "Texas featuring Paul Buchanan" whilst all
  others are "Texas".

I want to browse by album artist selecting "Texas" and seeing all 12
tracks on the album, not just the 11 that match.

Am I right that is means that bis bug will not be fixed in 15.10? Is it
Ubuntu philosophy that all bug that are "not a 'security' problem" will
not be fixed until the next release?

Status in Rhythmbox:
  Confirmed
Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:

Status in rhythmbox package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

For guest artists on an album or compilations Apple allows definition
of an album artist and artist for each track. Rhythmnbox only allows
browsing by track artists so many artists appear listed with only one
  track.

  Example, Red Book by Texas:

  1. 036 - Texas
  2. Getaway - Texas
  3. Can't Resist - Texas
  4. What About Us - Texas
  5. Cry - Texas
  6. Sleep - Texas featuring Paul Buchanan
  7. Get Down Tonight - Texas
  8. Nevermind - Texas
  9. Bad Weather - Texas
  10. Master Thief - Texas
  11. Just Holding On - Texas
  12. Red Book - Texas

The sixth track has artist "Texas featuring Paul Buchanan" whilst all
  others are "Texas".

I want to browse by album artist selecting "Texas" and seeing all 12
tracks on the album, not just the 11 that match.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1525402] Re: "Input Sources" button looks really out of place in Keyboard settings

2015-12-28 Thread Robert Hönig
I did, turned it to activate signal. But then, clicking the button just
does nothing. So I tried changing the design of the LinkButton, without
success :(

Title:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1377177] Re: Brother MFC9840CDW pxlcolor driver fails to intialize for bitmap printing

2015-12-28 Thread Estellnb
Hi Pascal! Unfortunately I have again discovered issues with the Brother
MFC9840CDW drivers. However this time I do not have a proprietary driver
which I could use as replacement. See for Bug #1529687 and Bug #1529690.

Gedit does not restore open tabs after crash correctly

Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
When Gedit crashes a bug report is generated and a dialog offers to
relaunch application. If I choose to relaunch, a gedit window appears,
however all tabs contains empty files. Only file names are correct.
(It seams that all files are gone.)

In other words, only filenames are used instead of full path to restor
  tabs.

In the crash report, there was a command line key with the value with
only file names (not with paths).

The possible reason could be that gedit was launched form cmd line not
in home folder but the restored is launched in the home folder. (All
files has the ~ in the brackets, so user can discover that these files
are not files which were open.)

Note: The crash is not related to this ticked. This is bug is about
  restoring after crash.

Title:
Back light off after sleep mode

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Hi all,
I would like to report that the back light of the display doesn't come back
on after the computer has been in sleep or display off mode. It initially
came back on to allow me to unlock the account / log back in, then it turned
off and stayed like that. The windows are displaying correctly, so using the
desk lamp as light source I could log out and back in again, to no avail.
Re-start and all is happy, but power save again, and darkness surrounds you.

My laptop is a Dell Latitude E6540 with the standard Intel 4600 graphics.
Please let me know what other details you may require

Clicking cancel on the messagebox did nothing; everything was still
  hung.

Looks like this was mentioned once before,
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2186209

Doing kill -HUP to the process "/usr/bin/python
/usr/share/system-config-printer/system-config-printer.py"
unblocked everything, and dpkg-cache policy reported that
openprinting-gutenprint was installed.
Control panel still didn't show the printer I'd wanted, so I tried it again,
and this time it completed (slowly).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1525402] Re: "Input Sources" button looks really out of place in Keyboard settings

2015-12-28 Thread Robert Hönig
AWESOME! THAT DID IT! :)
Didn't run the program under the newly installed Ubuntu Gnome yet, but as the
source code is the most recent from pull-lp-source and I didn't do any changes
to the layout of the program, it should look good in GNOME. Will submit this
now to launchpad with bzr.

I think "activate" is actually fired on double click for GtkButton, you
probably want to use "clicked"

firstly make this button look more like a button (e.g.: add a boarder
round it), and secondly actually put it somewhere on the page where it
doesn't look just completely out of place, I don't know, maybe
somewhere at the top or something, but it just looks odd and out of
  place where it currently is...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1525402] Re: "Input Sources" button looks really out of place in Keyboard settings

2015-12-28 Thread Tim
but you left the old button as well ;(

that is the wrong branch, if you want to use bzr then it is lp:~ubuntu-
desktop/gnome-control-center/ubuntu

otherwise make a debdiff against the ubuntu source from pull-lp-source.

either way you changes need to be done as a quilt patch!
