In Ubuntu 15.04, simply moving the mouse via touchpad scrolls the
  window

Status in Xserver Xorg Input Synaptics:
  New
Status in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Version: Ubuntu 3.19.0-16.16-generic 3.19.3

(This is mostly a copy paste from here:
  http://askubuntu.com/questions/617117/in-ubuntu-15-04-simply-moving-
  the-mouse-via-touchpad-scrolls-the-window)

When I first boot everything works fine. But then something happens
(not sure what triggers it) and many programs start scrolling just by
moving the mouse over the window. So far I see this happens in
Nautilus, Document Reader, Archive Manager, Ubuntu Software Center,
Meld, and System Monitor (what do they all have in common, GTK?). It
does NOT happen in web browsers, thunderbird, programs using Mono,
  Java, etc, for some reason.

To be more specific of the issue: if the mouse starting position is
over a document in Document Reader, for example, and then I move the
mouse via touchpad, it'll scroll the document like an anchor, where
the position of the mouse over the document doesn't change (yet it
scrolls). I have already tried disabling "two finger scroll", "disable
while typing", and the "tap to click" options, but they made no
  difference (after the glitchiness starts).

The other odd case is that in Nautilus, if the mouse starting position
is over a file or directory, it sometimes selects it instead of
scrolling. Single-clicking a directory will open the directory (so the
initial touch acts like a clicks, and letting go acts as the second
  click).

The only thing I can do to temporarily fix the problem is restart the
computer. There are no issues when using a mouse.

Update 2015/05/03: I see how to reproduce it now. It appears to be a
glitchy two-finger scroll issue. If you scroll any window with two
fingers a lot, eventually it'll start causing this problem. Try
various actions with two fingers, like "clicking" with two fingers, or
scrolling in various directions quickly, etc, and it will start
happening. It's interesting that it only happens in certain programs
and not in others, which makes me wonder whether it is really a
trackpad issue or some framework's issue. I can confirm that this is
happening on the 15.04 Live CD, so this happens out of the box.

The only work-around for this issue is to disable two-finger scroll
(if it's already glitchy you'll need to restart). Not sure if it
matters, but I'm using the Dell XPS 13 2015 9343.

Update 2015/05/05: Apparently this bug can still happen even with two-
finger scroll off, though it's more rare. Again, only certain programs
have the issue, so it's hard to tell if it's a touchpad issue or
  something else.

Status in libvoikko package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Please merge libvoikko 4.0.1-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

A pre-requirement is MIRing of foma (bug #1544453) at which point
malaga can be demoted to universe.

  Explanation of the Ubuntu delta:

The only change is the Conflicts/Replaces/Provides of libvoikko1v5. Ubuntu
went ahead and did a g++5 transition before Debian noticed it's not needed.

The Ubuntu specific change can be dropped after 16.04 LTS.

Changelog entries since current xenial version 3.8-1ubuntu2:

  libvoikko (4.0.1-2) unstable; urgency=medium

    * Fix python install location.

   -- Timo Jyrinki Wed, 10 Feb 2016 17:39:20 +0200

  libvoikko (4.0.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

    * New upstream release.
    * Now requires Python 3.
    * Use VFST backend only, HFST currently not in Debian.
    * Disable tests because it'd mean circular dependency regarding voikko-fi.
    * Breaks voikko-fi <= 2.0

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Playing a video in full-screen mode (html5) emits keys into foreground
("ghost keyboard" inputs).
These key sequences affect the currently selected/foregrounded Window, e.g.
the goneme-terminal flickers the text up and down, changes window focus and
inputs control characters scrambling the typed commandline.
Controlled typing on the commandline is nearly impossible this way, text is
garbled (see screenshot attachment).
Pausing the video stops this behaviour.
This happens on a fresh profile without any extensions/addons.

  example youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHEHPRDVEp4

  I logged the keys with
  xev 2>&1|while /bin/true ; do read ans; echo $ans;date -Ins ;done >
/tmp/xev.timestamped.log

and add the output here as attachment. From the log it seems to be
these type of repeating sequences (disregard beginning and end of
file, since it is mouse over xev movements):

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1544497] Re: bbswitch-dkms 0.8-3ubuntu1: bbswitch kernel module failed to build when doing apt-get full-upgrade

2016-02-12 Thread David
May be relevant information: This happened with a kernel that I compiled not
with the ubuntu kernel.
Following some issues I read, I did change /etc/systemd/logind.conf
UserTasksMax setting to 12288 but after this I could not login as compiz and/or
ibus-deamon would segfault.
Anyway, with the ubuntu kernel this does not happen.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Due to a logic error, an attempt to allocate a large block of memory
fails in gdk_cairo_set_source_pixbuf, leading to a crash of the app
that called it, for example, eom [1].

This issue had been fixed [2] in GTK+3, but GTK+2 apps that use the
mentioned function still crash when trying to allocate a lot of
memory. An example of such app is eom (Eye of MATE), an image viewer,
which crashes when trying to load a large image.

I propose fixing it in current Ubuntu releases with the patch which fixes the
crash.
The debdiffs are in the attachments in the comments below.

  [Test Case]

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Have a 64-bit installation of Ubuntu.
  2. Install eom if it isn't installed.
  3. Download the archive from the attachment of this post and unpack it.
(Firefox doesn't allow me to upload image as is - tries to make thumbnail of it
right in the file open dialog, then crashes.)
  4. Open the unpacked image (27000_27000_1437947845.png) in eom.
  5. eom crashes. The full backtrace is at [3].

You'll also see an error message: "failed to allocate
18446744072330584320 bytes". This huge number appears due to overflow
during multiplication of two 32-bit signed integers. In the patch,
this error is avoided by using a different memory allocation function.

  [Regression Potential]

After several months of testing the patch in Debian Jessie, Debian
Testing and Ubuntu 14.04, I haven't noticed any regressions.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1544985] [NEW] Memory Usage explosion (16gb) with not-so-large (248k) SVG

Public bug reported:

On Inkscape 0.91 r13725 (ubuntu packaged), the attached SVG (which was

usage, eventually thrashing so much that I have to kill the process (I

I have two screens, and sometimes on one of the screens mouse cursor

Corrupt cursor needs that AMD fglrx/Catalyst drivers are installed. I
have now the latest 14.1 beta installed, but I had the same with

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1280969] Re: Corrupt mouse cursor when using multiple monitors

2016-02-12 Thread Stephen Ranger
I added fglrx-installer and fglrx-installer-updates. It would be nice to
get this fixed as it's a longstanding bug in the driver that I believe
the official AMD Windows driver fixed a while ago.

Corrupt mouse cursor when using multiple monitors

Status in Linux Mint:

Status in fglrx-installer package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in fglrx-installer-updates package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I have two screens, and sometimes on one of the screens mouse cursor
gets corrupted. So far always vertically in 5 slices. The corrupt
cursor is always in the primary screen. The cursor is fine on the
second screen. If I take a screenshot (using the screenshot
application on Linuxmint) cursor looks normal on the screenshot. At
the same time it is corrupt on the screen. So some layer between the
buffer from where screenshot is captured to displaying the image on
  the screen corrupts the cursor.

Corrupt cursor needs that AMD fglrx/Catalyst drivers are installed. I
have now the latest 14.1 beta installed, but I had the same with
  previous beta.

Reboot fixes the problem, until after a while it happens again.

I have verified the problem with fresh installs of Kubuntu 13.10,
Linuxmint 16 KDE and Linuxming 16 Cinnamon. Now system is running
  Linuxmint 16 Cinnamon.

Title:
vpn auto-connect works, but doesn't connect automatically when network
  is available.

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I'm having a bug in Ubuntu Trusty Tahr 14.04 LTS. The issue I'm having
is that with a connection set to auto-connect to a PPTP-vpn, it does
not auto-connect when (wireless)-network becomes available.

  Syslog returns this error:

   [1401130450.367538] [nm-vpn-connection.c:1374]
get_secrets_cb(): Failed to request VPN secrets #2: (6) No agents were
  available for this request.

However it does connect when when connecting to the particular
connection manually. e.g. I select the wireless network in the
  network-manager.

This bug seems related to bugs:
  #280571
  #1297849
  #1247682
  #1298047

The difference between my situation and the others is that vpn-
autoconnect does work, it just doesn't work automatically.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 990887] Re: LightDM does not suspend when lid is closed

2016-02-12 Thread martinr
I experience the same problem. When someone closes my laptop lid, when
no-one is logged in, the laptop keeps running and gets seriously hot
like a toaster oven. It is bound to fry one day. Please increase the
priority of this issue.

I'm running:
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS
Release:12.04
Codename: precise

Bug description:
Until ubuntu 11.10, when I closed the lid in lightdm the computer
  suspended.

In Ubuntu 12.04, this behavior stopped to work while at the login
screen (lightdm). When logged in on Unity or Gnome, closing the lid
  suspends normally as expected.

I think that this is a bug, since all configurations panels, and
configurations files I found out, was saying that when closing the
  lid, the computer will suspend.

I've changed from lightdm to gdm using dpkg-reconfigure gdm and with
gdm when closing the lid the computer suspend normally as expected.

But I really prefer lightdm, and I would like to make this work as
worked in lightdm on Ubuntu 11.10.

  thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1544803] Re: Dropdown menu on home page is unresponsive

2016-02-12 Thread Jim Brooking
Update: The author (AriSoft) of the menu extension on which the subject
menu was built suggested a one-line change in the CSS for the menu,
which has restored the normal functionality of the menu in Firefox and
as had no apparent impact on its function in other browsers. At this
point, I don't know whether the problem is solved from Firefox
developers' viewpoint. My site is agaIn operating as desired in all
browsers, so MY problem is solved. However, I definitely less trustful
of Firefox updates than I have been. I hope future updates do not break
my site again!

Status in libvoikko package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

    * Fix python install location.

   -- Timo Jyrinki Wed, 10 Feb 2016 17:39:20 +0200

  libvoikko (4.0.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

    * New upstream release.
    * Now requires Python 3.
    * Use VFST backend only, HFST currently not in Debian.
    * Disable tests because it'd mean circular dependency regarding voikko-fi.
    * Breaks voikko-fi <= 2.0

Bug description:
There is no way to reset the ALSA state from the mixer applet.

Several users have found that they lose sound, and that the problem
turns out to be an asound.state file which does not work for their
hardware. It has not been established how the file came to be corrupt
or whether the problem was caused by upgrades to newer versions which
did not handle the file as written by the previous version. It has not
been established what aspect of the asound.state files caused the
problem. But several approaches can fix the problem:

1. Removing the ALSA modules, deleting the asound.state file, and
reloading the modules. This is difficult to do for non-expert users,
because applications such as the Gnome mixer and volume control can be
using the modules, preventing their unloading.

2. Removing the ALSA modules, and editing the asound.state to an
ultra-minimal state that reflects only the primary card, and reloading
  the modules.

   3. Invoking the alsa-utils "reset" option. On Ubuntu, typing this
fixes the problem for Intel sound cards:

   /etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset Intel

The latter option is thought to be best, because it doesn't require
  unloading and reloading modules.

It would be very useful to be able to invoke that "reset" command from
the GUI Gnome mixer applet, which is why this bug has been filed on
  that.

Earlier, I had been able to use CTRL-L for "Enter Location" and it
worked. At some point I had pressed ESC to revert back to the button-

Later on, with that same window open, I came back and tried CTRL-L and the
path didn't switch back to the textbox.
Even going to "Go"->"Enter Location" did nothing.

While writing this up, I did a test by closing that window, then opening a
new "Files" window and CTRL-L worked right off the bat.
This wasn't my first experience with that "bug", but enough times for me to
finally submit it when it happened.

When the file is in some sub-folder of the linked folder, everything works.
When file is in the linked folder's root however, Thunar gives the following
error:

  4) Thunar complains (roughly translated to English from my localised

»File couldn't be moved to trash.
  Invalid link across device boundaries.«

(In localised language the message says so:
»Datei konnte nicht in den Papierkorb verschoben werden.
Ungültiger Link über Gerätegrenzen hinweg.« )

P.S. When in this linked folder's root I delete the file without the
trash-option, i.e. the "delete forever" menu entry, it works.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus integrated search (CTRL+F) does not return any result without
tracker indexes. I don't need an indexing daemon running all the time so I
disabled trackerd in "System -> Preferences -> Session" and disabled indexing
in "System -> Preferences -> Indexing Preferences".
But, every time I try to search through nautilus, trackerd is spawned
automatically and I have no results at all.
Searching through "Places -> Search file" works as usual.
In my opinion nautilus should fall back to the classic (without tracker)
search if trackerd is not installed or disabled.

  Keep up the good work
