[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1585863] Re: WiFi malfunction after suspend & resume stress - sudo wpa_cli scan required to fix it.
I am having this problem now as well. A while back I used a script to restart network manager service after resume and this fixed all issues. Yesterday I tried to see if this issue has been fixed or not. After disabling the service with systemd I tested it with a two hour or so suspend. After waking up the computer was still connected to the AP and I was able to browse the web but the network manager icon was the Ethernet one and it didn't list any APs nearby to connect to. I disconnected manually and was unable to connect to an AP since none were listed. I re-enabled the script with systemd and all is working again. So from my end it seems the connection is still going but network manager UI is not working like it should. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1585863 Title: WiFi malfunction after suspend & resume stress - sudo wpa_cli scan required to fix it. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1653323] [NEW] Severe screen flicker on Unity when terminal maximized
Public bug reported: The screen experiences severe flicker when using Nvidia 375.26 on a GTX 1070 in 16.10, Unity Desktop -- but only when the terminal is in the top left of the screen or maximized, and is full of text. I made a video illustrating the problem: http://damonlynch.net/share /Ubuntu1610screen-flicker.mp4 Driver is from the "graphics-drivers" PPA. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1598993] Re: xrandr scaling corrupts external monitor output
I recently reproduced the same problem without using scaling, by connecting to a different external monitor. Now the problem exists in every video mode. Perhaps a problem of compatibility with Sky Lake integrated graphics in Thinkpad X260 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1598993 Title: xrandr scaling corrupts external monitor output Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: after doing xrandr --output HDMI2 --scale wxh, using any values except 1x1, the screen becomes increasingly distorted when typing in an editor window. The problem first appears as images of the previous cursor position being left behind, but as typing continues, lines below that being edited become increasingly garbled. The distortion can be removed temporarily by dragging the window to a different position. But of course it comes back as soon as editing resumes. The problem appears also in typing in an xterm window, as the image of the cursor gets left behind while typing the space bar. This makes the scale option completely useless for my usual purposes, and forces me to live with a screen resolution that doesn't properly fill the external monitor. The problem did not exist in xrandr 1.3.3 on my old system. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1640456] Re: Switching to USB sound device stops USB mouse clicks from registering #2
jth: >"Hi It's not invalid so it should be set Fix Committed" Here on Launchpad, that's not how it works. Specifically, this isn't Fix Committed, as you already advised the issue is resolved for you in 17.04. "until it's released and as Fix Released to indicate the version as probably 17.04." Whether or not a version of Ubuntu is development/stable/LTS, or speculating to probabilities has no bearing here. "If it is set to invalid it would not show up on searches that is critical to find and workaround the issue" The Status has no impact on searchability on a publicly available resource. One can search via Google, Launchpad itself, etc. and find this report regardless. >"and that the fix is on its way." Feature and bug fix backports, security fixes, etc. are performed as a matter of due course in Ubuntu development, irrespective of if anyone asks for one. >"I do not need it to be backported since there is an easy workaround. But it needs to be tracked so the workaround can be found until it is released correctly. You need to decide if it is worth to do the backport." Backporting because you need it is not my decision. It's yours. >"I will help you to verify if you decide to to release it in a backport. The issue will make affected system unusable so if you ask me if it is worth a backport I would say yes since most users will not be able to workaround the issue by themselves as you and I can." To advise, operating on speculation isn't how backports are determined. Despite this, since you don't need a backport, this bug report is being closed due to your last comment https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1640456/comments/3 regarding this being fixed with an update. For future reference you can manage the status of your own bugs by clicking on the current status in the yellow line and then choosing a new status in the revealed drop down box. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1640456] Re: Switching to USB sound device stops USB mouse clicks from registering #2
Hi It's not invalid so it should be set Fix Committed until it's released and as Fix Released to indicate the version as probably 17.04. If it is set to invalid it would not show up on searches that is critical to find and workaround the issue and that the fix is on its way. I do not need it to be backported since there is an easy workaround. But it needs to be tracked so the workaround can be found until it is released correctly. You need to decide if it is worth to do the backport. I will help you to verify if you decide to to release it in a backport. The issue will make affected system unusable so if you ask me if it is worth a backport I would say yes since most users will not be able to workaround the issue by themselves as you and I can. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1640456 Title: Switching to USB sound device stops USB mouse clicks from registering #2 Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Switching to USB sound device stops USB mouse clicks from registering #2. -- Johan ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+13ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.8.0-26.28-generic 4.8.0 Uname: Linux 4.8.0-26-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.3-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Wed Nov 9 12:38:58 2016 DistUpgraded: 2016-10-15 18:27:45,511 DEBUG Running PostInstallScript: './xorg_fix_proprietary.py' DistroCodename: yakkety DistroVariant: kubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 5.1.6, 4.8.0-22-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 5.1.6, 4.8.0-26-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: No GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation G84GLM [Quadro FX 570M] [10de:040c] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo ThinkPad T61p [17aa:20d9] InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-08-08 (1188 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Release amd64 (20130424) LightdmGreeterLogOld: QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: Filen eller katalogen finns inte QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /var/lib/lightdm/.config/ibus/bus Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1651396] Re: Backup fails every time after one incremental file is possibly corrupted
Thanks for this log. It shows that your current backup chain started on Oct 10, contains the offending incremental backup (Dec 19 to Dec 20), and has later incremental backups (three more on Dec 20, one on Dec 21, one on Dec 22, one on Dec 30). You can see for yourself under "primary backup chain" (you also have 9 older backup chains). So your backups are apparently still performed, despite the error message (!?!). As far as I understand, the SHA1 hash mismatch means that the indicated file (first volume of Dec 19 to Dec 20 incremental backup) is different from when it was created and its SHA1 hash was written in the accompanying .manifest file (a text file that stores the hashes of each volume at creation time). Is it conceivable that the transfer of this file to your backup location failed somehow? Or that it was modified afterwards? I think the easiest way for you to get rid of this issue is to delete (or rather, move away) the tail of your current backup chain, starting at the offending file, and launch an incremental backup to cover the Dec 19 to today period. That won't tell us how this file got corrupted however, but I for one am not able to help further. You may also want to delete (or rather move away) Déjà-Dup's cache directory (~/.cache/deja-dup) in case something weird creeped into it and is causing a problem. It will be recreated with fresh information downloaded from the backup location (manifest and signature files). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to deja-dup in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1651396 Title: Backup fails every time after one incremental file is possibly corrupted Status in deja-dup package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: The backup location is on a NAS mounted with NFS. Since this never happened in Ubuntu 15.10 with exactly the same Google Chrome binary, I believe, bug is caused by something that was added/updated in 16.04. I came across some discussions where different people suggested that it is related to new X.Org version. Here's a video to show what is happening: https://youtu.be/l21WsKz3fZc?t=45s I could fix this flickering with --disable-gpu-compositing switch, but this slows down page drawing significantly so it can't be considered a workaround. There is also a Chromium bug report: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=606152, but I don't think they will fix an Ubuntu-specific bug. Update: this indeed happens only when browser window is maximized. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1653264] [NEW] gnome-screensaver starts within a KDE session
Public bug reported: I use KDE, but every so often I find gnome-screensaver running, not immediately after starting a session but after some time and activity. If I kill the gnome-screensaver process it goes away for a while, but starts up again some time later. As a result, I have a screensaver running which doesn't respond to the KDE screensaver configuration. I discovered that some applications cause gnome-screensaver to start during a KDE session. Two examples are totem and neverball and I expect there are more. I suspect that these applications attempt to temporarily disable the screensaver in a way which causes gnome- screensaver to start. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574667] Re: Mouse pointer occasionally jumps to the bottom-left corner
I have been experiencing the identical problem on my new Dell XPS 15 touchscreen laptop running Ubuntu 16.04 fully patched. Two problems actually: (1) touchpad mouse pointer randomly jumps to the bottom left corner, which frustratingly can result in the trash application opening up, and at least having to reset the mouse pinter back to where you need it. (2) mouse pointer too often also jumps backwards several characters so you wind up typing in the middle of your sentence. Both of the above problems become frustrating enough that you want to throw the laptop across the room, LOL. It happened to me like 3-4 times just typing this. Windows is also on this computer and has no such issues. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1653259] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.10 Full screen freeze appears to be a continuation of bug 1561795
Public bug reported: The system freezes on full screen e.g. when playing videos, viewing Power Point presentations but especially when xscreensaver activates. Music still plays in the background (where applicable), the mouse cursor moves but has no effect, cannot click anywhere. If I reboot via ctrl+alt+f1 the system reboots and continues to function normally until a full screen activity triggers the same response. The problem does not occur at every activation of full screen, but appears to be triggered consistently by xscreensaver. The possibility of a hardware problem should be eliminated by the fact that I have transferred the ssd containing the problematic OS to a newer desktop machine where the exact same symptoms are being experienced as in the previous desktop. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1647133] Re: dns=dnsmasq does not work any more
I can also confirm, though there is no need to, that the newest version of NM 1.4.2-3ubuntu1 does not work better either. So this bug still remains unsolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1647133 Title: dns=dnsmasq does not work any more Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Network-manager will make my network connection immediately lost after updating to the newest version 1.4.2-2ubuntu4. However, downgrading to the previous version 1.4.2-2ubuntu3 the network connection is back again and fine. If, with this version, I remove the file (link) /etc/resolv.conf the network is broken again. Rebooting solves this, as network-manager creates a new resolv.conf file. The newest version 1.4.2-2ubuntu4 also creates the very same kind of file, but no network. I have the latest (Gnome-shell DE) updates installed and of course all packages that network-manager depends on. But not the ones it only recommends or suggests. Should I have resolvconf installed? I think not, as isc-dhcp-client only suggests it. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1542733] Re: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out
I just noticed today that on my Ubuntu 16.10 machine the problem doesn't exist... Might try installing the pre-release of 16.04.2 which has kernel 4.8 to see if that makes any difference. Or maybe installing the network manager from 16.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1542733 Title: Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network, "Connect" grayed out Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Reproduce: 1.
